Well I certainly hope it doesn't follow in DNF's footsteps!

I wanted to see their duke 3d reloaded which was announced earlier.
but seems like they will go on ROTT first.
These developpers aren't the ones of DNF, but real fans of the games, but yeah I wouldn't it being like DNF in matters of delays, because I will be 40 if it happens

Sorry to bump a 5 day old thread but this is news to me.

I only ever played the demo of the original ROTT, but damn it was so much fun. The mechanics of the game were beautifully simple: Blow up Nazi's with rocket launchers. While ROTT managed to pull that off back in 1996, the bluntness of the game would have resulted in instant failure for most modern titles if done today so I definitely did not expect a remake

The sense of humor throughout the whole game also really defined it. I'm pretty sure the doesn't-take-itself-seriously style of humor in the game inspired the same silliness used in Serious Sam.

In order for a remake to succeed, it needs to be true to classic style gaming in order to get near that original divine simplicity and also capture that same sense of class and humor.

I saw rocket jumping so there's already hope they are doing just that.

Cool then :handgestures-thumbupright: I will get it someday as I do like the whole nonsense of this game as it was in the original

Disappoints me though. So many flaws get in the way and the ROTT parts all feel hamfisted without subtlety. So it does suck, worst FPS game of the year from me. :/

Lots of stupid design decisions include unbacktrackable forced checkpoints (to "make up" for the lack of saving, makes less sense in a trap-filled collection-based game), the forced player speed (no walk), getting snagged by detail meshes in the map no thanks to the player speed (and even INSIDE OF VENTS you'll be snagged), the instant long range hitscan enemies and poor damage feedback, the badly done blood effects that make weapons feel WEAKER, the poor voice acting that you can't turn off (even with the voice volume set at 0 you'll still hear yourself), and annoying bugs like suddenly you restart the map when you die inexplicably. These are much less cosmetic nitpicks and more like big glaring flaws that a QA department or even true fans would raise issues about immediately.

I'd suggest everyone to wait for a post-patch sale or a demo (if ever). After playing this, Duke Nukem Reloaded's Cease & Desist feels like a blessing in disguise.

I like to think that, being Interceptor's first major game release, I can cut them some slack with all the flaws in game. Besides, they already promised to patch in all the major issues.

Also, Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded is back on track. Also looking forward to that, and Shadow Warrior. Old-school FPS games are coming back in a big way and I'm all hyped for it, so,

I do not like the insinuation that I am not a "true fan" of ROTT.

though he / she raises some valid points depending on people they will more or less accept these defects or don't care about those.

Even Hard reset being made by the same people making the new shadow warrior wasn't out of flaws in the first release.
The game went better after a couple of fixes and a free DLC, then they released a retail version with all the patches. which I bought and I'm not disappointed by the end product.

but at some point there is something true, with deadly trap and die and retry sections it's better to have a free save system than checkpoints.

The game was originally slated for Dec 2012 and was delayed for many months. All that time in between that obviously-not-in-gestation reveal trailer and the release right now could've been used for realizing the obvious playability issues. Even the original game had a shareware pre-release that helped Apogee with feedback before the initial registered release months later. This was repeated with Duke3D (for a longer period). id Software also tried this with Quake for v0.91, when less-than-a-month of time really ironed things out.

I'll pass on Shadow Warrior, thanks. No more "oldschool reboots" for me if they're just going to play like mid-00's console games (like Serious Sam Next Encounter) while having the bugs of Bethesda games while treating the original source material as "a checklist of references to shoehorn in to pretend we care". It's exploitation at its finest when riding on an old IP creates this "GOTY" placebo effect just because it's a cash-in on a legacy. I've played ROTT since the v1.0 shareware was all there was out for it, and playing the new game is pretty much one huge insult.

It's kinda like Atomic Bomberman vs. Super Bomberman. Some people love it because ZOMG RETRO CLASSIC IN SVGA, others hate it because it plays like crap and the humor is forced and childish, missing features, bugs, and a generally 'bastardized' feeling, expecting at least a game that is Super Bomberman quality. Fast-forward to now and it's only known around for being "awesome old school abandonware bomberman game with swears discovered by this oldschool game reviewer kid on youtube" among the retro-hipsters.

Wow... I feel sad for you. If you can't enjoy a flawed (it's not even subpar) but fun game, then I guess that's it for this discussion. I can't force you to to change your mind if you're really not willing to give indie developers and the resurrection of old-school games (Oh, hey! Spacehulk is back! But I guess that only gonna click with the "nostalgia-goggles" fans as well, innit?) a chance.

1.02 doesn't improve performance.

Also it certainly doesn't get better at Episode 2. Mandatory platform sections SUCK, especially with the previously mentioned forced-too-fast-slow-acceleration player physics, because "oldschool" as if analog movement didn't exist then (spoiler: it did)

Lot's of people complained about the actual air control, I believe this is what you are referring to.
I still haven't the game but I think I will try to get it.
I would like to see if it's any better and hope that they will put the save anywhere and avoid the closure of places after a checkpoint. mostly considering that the game is filled with a lot of die and retry sections so yeah.
