So Iv worked for walmart for 5 years now, and have quite a lot of vacation time built up, but when i told my manager i was using it for my Army Basics he flipped out, and said if i want to keep my job I wont go to boot camp. and looked at him like he was out of his mind. now the store manager and I are on par, and according to her, I can keep my job for when Im off active duty and such, But my manager (stock management leader) says he will terminate my employment. So I am a tab upset with walmart. what ever happened to job security.....

Well supermarket chains tend to suck out all of their employees that is possible while trying to be the most attractive.

Here in Germany, we had a scandal about the security cameras of a supermarket chain not monitoring the shoppers, but the staff - especially the checkout clerks.

So don't take me wrong, but that ain't nothing new.

that's illegal, sarge. Take it up with HR. How you use your vacation is NOT up to them. if that doesn't work, go higher up.

Walmart has a tendency to jerk around employees who have been around a couple years to the point of quitting so that they can hire part timers to replace older employees.

This type of thing has been happening at a Walmart near me too.

Its really irritating, but when I went to work this morning a fellow co worker said he got fired, Apparently he has been doing it to some other people and the store manager just fired him on the spot. good riddens. tommaro Im going to ask the personal manager for the time off. normaly you sk your own supervisor, then they do the paperwork, if it doesn't get denied. but since mine has since been fired, I have to go to personal. which is fine, Iv never meet him, but lets see how it goes.

Like i said, it's not his business how YOU spend YOUr vacation time. I'm guessing you don't live in oregon, which (if you didn't know) is an at will state, meaning either side can terminate employment for any reason or no reason. i've never really seen it used though.

Just don't tell them what you plan on doing. After all, the wallymart where i live supports the military, so i imagine they'd be happy someone was going in.

edit: being nice to the guy will get you further as far as getting what you want in most cases.

Well I wont know if I have to time off till Monday, but something very very Ironic happened today. Having been in the stock management team for 5 years now, I as offered my old supervisors job as stock management leader, but regrettably I had to decline, as that would more than likely delay my enlistment.

your vacation time wouldn't have been altered at all, but your hours def. would've changed.

I havnt ever used my vacation time, at my walmart you get 15days vacation a year and it adds up, right now I have 75 days of vacation, which is almost enough for what i need, But I have it all figured out now. I ship in January for basics. and I have job security on my position so its all good to go

75 days? Never? Hot damn. that'll put you to what, mid-may or so?
