What's up with the loads of spambots coming up lately, or is it a troll?

Was there even a captcha to do or some email confirmation when creating an account? Don't remember lol.

If not, might be worth to put something like that in. It's sad when spambots do 80% of the activity in a forum.

Neither captchas nor email activations do jack to prevent bots from registering. I have deleted all the spam accounts and posts, and changed up the Q&A question list, hopefully that will confuse them for a while (several months like usually).

Yeah, gotta agree with Baryonx, it's sad when spam bots keep the forum lively.

Gotta admit I fell for one yesterday... XP Stupid spam bot trying to steal my signature.

As far as I have observed this is the first large spam wave since last year and only lasted for a few hours, it is hardly significant.

I hate this as much as everybody else. Though I don't think that security checks from whatever form is very efficient as they always end up to manage to get around after a while.
So yeah if we can keep them far away for some period, I think it should be fine ...

The most robust defence is doing a server-side spam lookup in a database like stopforumspam's and cancel the registration if entries are found, but that sort of thing is up to the site admins, not me. If that was in place almost none of the bots today would have gotten through as nearly all of them had several entries in SFS.

It's up to them but everyone who are in contact with them can tell them about this.
