Flame Trower in Skrith style!

Primairy fire makes big purple/blue plasma wave coming out of the Plasma Trower.
Secundairy fire cools stuff down like the Lighting gun.
Can overheat which causes BOOM.
Ammo backpack wich can go wheeeeeee up into the sky too...

Stupid idea not? I've got nothing better to do so I just post this one up.

One would think flamethrowers would not overheat because they are made to spray out flames.

Im a little confused with the secondary fire:



does it freeze your opponent or electrocute them? Also I was sure the lightning gun fried you like toast.

Or were you just refering to the Lightning guns grounding ability?

Mind you, if your flame "Trower" could encase you in ice this would be a flamethrower with a difference.

Super cold ice hit by superhot fire also makes an explosion. (or is that the other way round)

But please tell us more.

The otherway round would casue an implosion, or no reaction.

I think this idea has potential with some work, although the backpack should just be a giant energy cell, and the actual plasma ignition in the gun itself.

Where will the plasma be coming from then? And what's the point in a giant energy cell, to ignite that plasma you speak of?

Thinking realisticly, plasma is not "stored", not in a backpack anyway. Rather it is generated with large amounts of electromagnetics (this is done theoratically by zapping air between two electrodes)

So the backpack would be more of a giant battery similar to the one used for the HVC and the gun uses this to "ignite" the plasma by electrocuting a small pocket of gas to extreme tempuratures and ionising it.

Well, depends on what plasma is. It is a form of matter when it reaches immense heat like in the sun, it can also be the liquid found in blood I think.

In both cases it can be stored, the former however is tough to store without some really clever-made backpacks...

Yok's right, the backpack would just give the electromags the enourmous power they need, but it would last a lot longer.

I think one 500 unit store would be suffcient ammo, although it would mean it would out-perfom the existing one by 200 rounds and no reload... perhaps if it had a shorter range?

Plasma is used to name several things but that does not mean they are the same.

The plasma we are talking about here is the plasma mentioned in the article I linked too. That is: the plasma you really dont want to touch.

Note that fire is considered in this sence, a low frequency plasma. You cannot contain fire in a little box without it turning into a puff of smoke. Assume plasma would not be too different from this without some resource to maintain it.

As such it would take some technological effort to store plasma, but storing a fuel to "ignite" it instead would be far cheaper.

In relation to fire, the fuel for plasma is electromagnetics. This can be contained in a battery while the weapon itself uses it to generate plasma as I mentioned before: ionising gas between two (or more) electrodes

I should also point out the ionisation process takes nanoseconds. You should have plasma coming out of the muzzle instantaneously just as if it was stored.

But enough physics, we can always call it "Skrith technology" to allow plasma to be fired in the traditional belt feed manner. I just thought I would elaborate on the logics of Raptorians "fuel-ignition" idea.

Does plasma get effected by gravity? If so, you could make the plasma stream fall down. Making hitting people a little harder.

What use is this Plasma Trower for the Skirth anyways? They're sneaky, no?
Perhaps to clear an area full of enemies where sneaking is impossible. As you take one down with sneaking, the others will notice that he falls to the ground.

Yeah, they are stealthy bast***s, using a plasma thrower does seem out of character.

They have changed their tactics from the first war. The first war, they were on the front lines battling the terrans. It could work as a relic from the first wars, methinks.

It very well could be.

If plasma could be consolidated into a ball like we see in many shooters, that ball would have the mass required to be affected by gravity.

Halo got this right, if you fire the covenant plasma rifle over a distance you can see the projectiles do follow an arc trajectory.

You get the impression they defy gravity because they travel so far but they dont.

But if the plasma has more of a fiery form then I am unsure. It would have to have much lower density and would either:

-shimmer around like dry ice.

-rise into the sky and dissipate

-go for the nearest positively charged object such as metal, a tree or animal.

And if it doesnt seem Skrithy you could make it a Cryon weapon (they made a grenade launcher, or is that Crao? I dont remember)

Cryon are bio-mechanical abominations, engineering flesh and machine to achieve their goals. Krao are more or less living weapons, thrown at the Terrans by the thousands to overwhelm with shear force.

At that, I'd take it the Cryon made the grenade launcher.

I love the idea of the plasma arcing towards things. If you gave it more realistic plasma properties, it would actually make a unique weapon without actually adding silly features.

Something like a cross between the Lightning gun and flame thrower would be a sight to behold.

Cryon are sounding more interesting the more I hear about them.

I would love to see more Skrith weapons but I am intersted in seeing some Cryon Inginuity also.

Remember those "Plasma Globes" they made in the 80's? They contained free floating arcs of plasma and if you touched the globe the plasma followed your finger. Or more technically: the positive ions in your finger.

If we could expect similar behaviour here...Emagine being followed by slow moving violet-green fire. Scary.

This would certanly set it apart from the flamer and lightnign gun.

The Cryon are a really nasty sounding enemies, can't wait to see them in the game, gonna be fun bashing some Cryon heads in with a crowbar or something.

But seeing a weapon fire something similar to what's seen in those plasma globes would make an awesome weapon. It would behave very differently from both the flamer and lightning gun, yet have similar uses. On that note, I personally think the two should be in the same group, as well as this gun.

As for the plasma gun, should it just have the stream of plasma or should there be a projectile fire mode too?

Hmm so a plasma thrower has been considered for some time already? I think it's time we take these idea's to the next step and come up with a real possibility.

I made a new thread concerning all the different Plasma throwers we have come up with so far, I welcome all idea makers to add their thoughts and plus any other plasma throwers I have not noticed
