U4E may have a really cool nuke explosion, but the weapons are overpowered, lame and crap.

they are excactly the opposite of ballistic weapons.
Unrealistic, stupid, overpowered and just in one word... crap.
The rest of U4E isnt too bad, but the weapons just suck. Really... what idiot made a nuclear DOLL bomb... cmon that just wont fit.

Bjossi, I'd suggest to try U4E2k4 v4, and if you still have UT99, try the complete U4E Fortress pack, it's more than worth a try.
Bulska has every right in the world not to like it, but his opinion is far from being a general rule.
I for one love U4E as much for its intentional unrealism as I love BW for its realism approach. If one has an open mind, these things don't have to exclude each other. U4E is a great mod that dares to do very creative things with its weapons and has a sense of humor, while BW is centered around tactical and more realistic sci-fi combat, so you can't really compare the two apart from the fact that they are both very good UT2k4 mods.

Here's an overview of U4E weapons, to emphasize how different it is compared to BW:
They have a [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lyYK4I6ry0"]portal device[/url], a superweapon that creates a black hole that sucks everything in, a weapon that is in fact an insect clutching to your arm that shoots eggs which break open and release larvas that follow players (even yourself), attach to and suck life out of them, a chainsaw with a grappling hook, so you can pull enemies into the rotating blade, the first UT2k4 gravity gun, a bow with lots of different arrow types (even nuclear ones), a triple-bladed ninja-star-thing that always returns to your hands when thrown, the first railgun that could see and fire through walls for UT2k4 (though that old thing looks not nearly a great as our beloved BW-RG of course), and [url="http://u4e.beyondunreal.com/?p=weaponinfo"]many more[/url]. Oh, and it comes with a very good cooperative gametype with its own monsters, called Gateways, where monsters spawn at portals that have to be destroyed in order to win.
This overview should prove that U4E is not like BW at all, so it would be a big mistake to compare the two, just because of the fact that each mod adds several new weapons to UT2k4.

Too bad the latest version (v5) was never finished, the coders went missing somehow. It was my favourite UT(2kx) mod for a very long time and when BW came out, it was still my number two (pushing Chaos UT to the 3rd place), it's hard to see a great mod end like that.


@topic: Why would a nuclear rocket have to be so much bigger than a normal one? You don't want to blow up the whole map, do you? We're still talking about sci-fi stuff here, and therefore a small one should be sufficient to create quite a big bang. I thought if one should be able to direct the nuke to its location mortar-style (as the thread creator suggested) or via a targeting laser (as Mr.UglyPants stated), why inventing a new weapon for that when the G5 already does exactly the same thing?

The reason why it would be big is that the whole process that is required to make a nuclear explosion is very big.

Sci-fi or not, there is still a somewhat realistic approach to the weapons, and if they can make nuclear devices as small as a G5 rocket, it seems like they might as well go with them instead. Plus its a balancing factor too, you'd be more capable of detonating it prematurely by firing at a larger target then one the size of the G5 rickets.

Plus, I don't think it would really be too terribly balanced to give a tact. nuke all the features of the G5, that'd be really powerful.

Plus, we got 4 shotguns in BW, with more planned on by some who want to sponsor. I think another rocket launcher is definitely called for.

A nuke requires more force to launch than a small RPG, you hardly need a brain to know that.

Seriously though, I like this idea, as long as it fits the style of everything else alongside it and is balanced with it. I'd rather see an entirely new weapon model than a simple ammo type, partly because the G5 wouldn't be able to fire anything big enough to start a fission reaction, and partly because I like being able to tell my weapons apart by sight. Also, partly because I know RS wouldn't cheap out on us like that, and I want to be in the right when all is said and done.

U4E: I agree with Doc Shock. U4E is just as good as BW, and shouldn't be discounted just for its different style.

So like a portable missile launcher? I think that would work well for it, at least it would give it a degree of believability.

It would be like the fusion RL from Red Faction, a big ass rocket launcher that fires basically a big ass torpedo that causes a big ass kaboom.

There are already many nuke weapons, but I'm sure BW's would be the best(if they decide to make one, that is.)

It would have the best graphical features for sure, but the audio part can be debated about.

Don't mind him, Bulska is showing high levels of BW fanboy-ism, that can't be cured easily.

I think BW could definitely use something similar to the Redeemer but with fire modes similar to the G5.
But I still think it should be a separate weapon. Before BW2, I rarely, if ever, used the G5, but with the fly by wire feature, it is now my favorite weapon. The idea of controlling a projectile after firing is always good to me, like the super sheep in any of the worms games, or the redeemer in UT, or even a thrown lightsaber in JK2/JKA. It always seemed a little more personal that way.

I would like to know the likelihood of this being considered for the next release of BW. Does anyone know?

at least thats for me.

I would love to see a big redeemer-like weapon for BW2.0. But maybe such a weapon is too strong to carry in your hands?

We are talking about a computer game, not real life, anything is possible.
