Trust me, this is nothing compared to what I did with my first weapon balance thread in the Feature Requests forum. I ended up asking for it to get locked as the debates got really heated.

Yeah, the terms really aren't interchangeable, but as far as this game goes, it doesn't really matter what we call them. Their uses overlap to some degree.

But I agree that this is going nowhere but to hell. We should go back to the original topic, which is discussing an idea for a bipod for a new sniper, or the current ones. I like the idea, but could someone explain to me what a bipod is? Because I only have a faint idea of it.

Think of the M353 and M925, those are bipod using guns for the mounting. I think the XMV850 is a tripod (3 legs on the mount).

But anyways, to answer your question, a bi-pod is just two legs that fold down in the front f a gun to set on a solid surface to stabilize the gun.

That will eliminate recoil and increase accuracy, but would you be able to move the 1st person view around?

Well, ideally it'd work just like the other turret modes. The heavy machine guns (not talking minigun) already have this feature, and they too have bi-pods.

Sorry, but a bipod DOES NOT eleminate recoil. I own real guns, I fire real guns.

To put it in perspective, if you put your nose smack in the middle of the butt end of a .50 cal (yes with a bipod)and pull the trigger, the gun will cave your face in when it kicks back.

Yeah but i'm pretty sure its all but impossible to fire a 50 cal rifle without it ripping your arms off when you fire it like you would with any otehr rifle (namely no bipod)

Then what the hell is the point in a bipod if it won't make you able to fire big ass rifles without risking the loss of a limb?

A bipod I imagine would only function as a means to keep your aim more steady. Instead of supporting the gun with your left hand, which will probably not be 100% steady, you use a bipod and youfr environment, which is probably not moving around a lot.

A realistic bipod really wouldn't have much effect with BW's accuracy system. It would work if there was weapon chaos at all times, even when crouched or standing.

Correct. A bipod is used for firing a gun at a far off target (obviously with a scope). You dont need a bipod at close range because the target is closer and accuracy is less of an issue. Now when you're trying to headshot a bird from a 200-400 yards away that tiny 1/16 of an inch waver in you hand turns into a 15 foot miss.

But aren't we dicussing about having or not having a bi-pod for a high caliber sniper rifle?

All i know is that it would be like the MG's are, namely you hold alt and you deploy the bi-pod and your quite accurate, firing while not deploy should possibly result in damaging yourself (insane kickback... its a effing .50 cal gun) in the process.

Self damage is a terrible idea if it involves taking away HPs every time you fire.

Only when your not deployed plus your way less accurate.

Still a no from me. Damage doesn't have to come in the form of HP reduction.

I'm just saying that from normal thinking, I seriously doubt ANYONE can fire a bloody 50 cal sniper rifle un-deployed without breaking an arm!

That doesn't necessarily mean a loss of life points. Hell, give the one who made such a decision damage in other forms, like make the inaccuracy and recoil many times greater due to the barely functional arm. And for gameplay reasons that could be a temporary side effect.

Cept recoil on a sniper rifle doesn't do much cause you fire, wait, reload and fire again.. Whatever, the way i see it it seems silly to give it to anything else.

I'm talking about every weapon. It is obvious that a hardly functional arm will have a very hard time to handle any sort of recoil, plus it is more hard to keep a steady aim.

Good idea, yeah, temporary would be the best thing, maybe for like 20 seconds or somethng, or until you pick up health.
