First of al its a great mod

I have a weapon in mind that resembles a howitzer cannon.
The primary fire would shoot a shell like the golliath tank (or smaller calliber ).
However the secondary fire would shout out a shell that explodes in mid air and releases smaller bombs and/or flak (or napalm) tearing through your enemy or wathever crosses its path.

An option in the mod menu could be timing the secondary fire shell ( when it would explode in mid air)

So what do uou think about this Weapon?

hmmm sounds interesting.. heavy calibre rifle (anti-tank) kinda thing.. i like

a Howitzer would be impossible to carry, and the recoil alone would kill you.

But a heavy calibre rifle sounds better than a stupid mobile cannon.

No fraggin handheld howitzers. BW isn't about being reaistic, but it IS about being serious. Goofy stuff like this belongs in U4E.

I'm sure i even have a mod on UT2k4 that has a Howitzer cause in BW arean i keep seeing Howitzer somewhere in it.

Anyways, this idea doesn't fit BW, plain and simple. But it could if we change a few aspects of the idea.

What kind of aspects? the Howitzer can never be carried, thats why they have tanks to carry it.

Maybe chuck the howitzer and anti-tank rifle ideas and combine them into. . .
A 90mm recoilless rifle.

That would still be F**king huge!

An anti tank rifle would be useful in Ons games Heavy and slow to reload but packing a wallop. Similar to a Karl Gustav. Reocil would be solved buy having it be a Magnetic weapon. Have it fire a Uranium discarding sabot dart, that goes critical when it strikes a soild target causing a tiny Nuke explosion. That would be bad for a vechile. However hitting a soft human target would cause meduim damage because it would pass right on through. Being next to a wall when the dart goes critical on it would be bad however.

You seem to have forgot about the semi-realistic aspect.

Yeah that would be cool, but isn't it like another G5 almost but no recoil? And so far i've seen at least 3 or 4 (including this new one) G5 like missle launchers that RS could make for BW.

Nope not like a G5 since recioless rifles can only be shot right at a target. They have no guidance to speak of other than a well placed aim. Add to that the shells thrust is all in the tube not from an attached motor. SO damage to a vechile or solid object would be heavy but you would have to lead well to be spot on to hit the target.

ok.. a big calibre rifle that has to be MOUNTED might work better.. thats more or less what i thought..

Agreed. But I still like the idea of a recoilless rifle bridging the gap between an anti-vehicle rocket and an anti-tank rifle.

anti-vehicle and anti-tank rocket is almost the same damn thing, they both blow the crap out of heavily armed things.

Yeah, but a recoilless rifle would neither be a G5 clone because the shot would be MUCH faster and unguided, and it wouldn't be a souped up sniper rifle because it would be less accurate and you could only carry a couple rounds.

True but a G5 round is slow I can dodge em in most vechiles if I see em fired. A rifle round would be fast and impossible to dodge. Like the Idea of a small ammo load out that a nd a slow reload time to balance out the hurt it could deliver.

Agreed. The recoilless rifle would be nearly impossible to dodge, would not be highly explosive, so as to not take the G5's job as an anti-personell launcher, and you could only carry a very few rounds, and very slow reload time between rounds.

It is possible to dodge a bullet, but you will have to have 2x quicker response time than the average person, like 0.08 seconds or something.

Supersonic bullets are impossible to dodge unless you are decently far away, and afaik, most bullets are supersonic when fired.

Maybe it could be mounted on top of a hellbender ? Instead of that (according to me) lame rear turret. Meaning the 90 mm rifle and perhaps make it more or less like anti aircraft guns from WW 2

Thinking of it that howitzer would be a good replacement for the ion cannon you just call in a bombardment off some sort ( like the target painter)
primary fire a normal bombardment of howitzer shells and secundary fire who knows what kind of bombardment

Then you wouldn't be able to dodge it, because you'd be dead before you heard the shot fired (supersonic anyone?).



There won't be any hellbenders. There will be all new vehicles.

I still think a high-caliber recoilless rifle is a much better idea than having a high-powered snti-tank rifle that will basically just be a souped up sniper rifle. And probably better than having ANOTHER rocket launcher for anti-vehicle purposes.
