This is a copy of my post in the Bow thread. I thought it might be better to give this idea a thread of its own, so the bow discussion doesn't get split up, because my idea turned out to be too different from a traditional bow concept. So here it is (again): My proposals would be: 1) Per default the weapon is a single wrist blade, maybe a protoss-like energy blade would be possible, so that it doesn't look like the wristblades that are already in BW. Primary fire would strike. On top of the device are the arrow components, they acivate when pressing altfire. The blade slides back into the device and the bow unfolds. In this state, primary fire shoots a dart that either poisons or electrocutes the target to slow it down significantly, maybe even distort its view. Once the target's ability to run or fight is decreased, switch back to the blade and finish it. Special function could lauch the previously discussed tracking dart. The monster magnet thing sounds neat as well, but it wouldn't fit the Skrith theme to let primitive predators kill their precious prey instead of doing it by themselves. 2) I also like the grappling hook concept. Maybe it could be implemented like this: Again, default is a melee weapon (a narrow but rather long 4-sided blade) and secondary switches modes. In bow mode it will shoot the blade. The blade is so sharp that it passes through any player, it only sticks to vehicles and level architecture. If the latter happens, the player can press fire at any time to create a connection between the weapon and the blade. This isn't exactly a physical connection like a wire, but a highly damaging electromagnetic tractor beam filled with deadly plasma, so one can create traps with it (anyone played Painkiller? The default weapon worked similar.). Once this connection is established, altfire pulls the blade back while primary now spreads the tip of the blade to transform it into a hook (or barb/fluke, dunno the right term). In this case the player will pull himself to the blade, not the other way round (as long as he doesn't press primary again to release). Pressing altfire while towing stops the reel-in process, so the player can swing around Spider-man style. When the player presses altfire while the blade is back in the device, it switches back to melee. I might have to provide further explanations on the trap-function of the beam: Imagine an Onslaugt match and a narrow canyon, a Scorpion is nearing fast. A player shoots the projectile into the opposing wall, takes cover behind a rock and waits for the right moment. When the Scorpion is near, he activates the beam and the scorpion drives right trough it... Boom. In DM it's harder because enemy players can jump over it and kill the now vulnerable player, who needs to reel in the blade before he can fire again. But when a talented player presses primary twice, the connection between the blade and the gun is established right when it leaves the device, so when an enemy is hit he gets impaled and toasted at the same time... I guess that the device can only be used as an offensive weapon by highly skilled players, and for the mediocre rest (like me), it is more a tool to get around the map faster or to lay traps. Something in it for everyone. I know this would be a nightmare to code, but I didn't want to hold back with my ideas... |

This sounds better as a seperate weapon.
I love this idea. The more ways to make traps to kill my unsuspecting brother, the better.

There was a gent who made a man hack mod that fits what you want with a whole bunch of added feature. The gun was wicked fun and had tons of sublte uses. What brought it to a halt was the net code seemed impossible for him to make so it would work online. You could fire a disk to slice through an oppent with a few cool functions. Alt fire opened a bladed version that could be fired and would dischage a plasma sphere around it when it hit something or was recalled. Fun but unbalanced weapon. |

That was pretty fun, but I like Doc's idea better. Its a little different than what he suggested, but it was still great fun. |

I LOVE the energy blade idea! The secondary fire mode would blind the enemy and\or slow them down or something, then you would run up to them and slice their head off That would make a great Arena weapon!
