Hi everyone, I decided the other day to play some BW again (still great!) and I was wondering, would it be possible to add some sort of Zip-Line system? I was watching the intro to BF2:SF on some website and I was watching people zip from tower to tower, and thought it might be cool to have some zip lines in here. Maybe a weapon you can get as a primary weapon that is like a big G5, which can shoot ropes out the front and back, and when the two are locked into something, one could zip along? Or maybe some sort of utility that people can find/get that allows people to press keys to fire ropes, and travel forward and backwards on the line? I know it would most likely be a challenge, but I was wondering if it might be possible, I know the guys who made Chaos:UT had a grappling hook....

Hmm, if this could be coded, which I bet it can, I'd use it! Some levels would be good to ahve zip-lines on them, such as a lot of JB levels to where you can break the game by entering the arena (JK, why would you want to do that?).

This idea is the right idea for the wrong game, UT2004 is far from being suited for this sort of feature, unless you are ready to make a map that supports it.

or you'll need to change the bot AI

Doing both would make this idea interesting to a new level...

yeah, but if it moved to slow, you just be caught dead in a hail of bullets, too fast and you wouldn't be able to kill anyone. Plus the zip line HAS to slope or you just would move.

Joseph! You and Bjossi were among the very first members here! Place has grown a bit since then, ey? Check Bjossi's post count now...

Anyway, we had an idea for this device, but perhaps the current UT maps and gameplay would simply waste this thing.
It could be part of our next project...
Our grappler idea involved a dual hook device, so you could set up a zip line, but it could also be used with jsut one hook to climb up structures and lower yourself down. You would also be able to use normal weapons whilst suspended in mid air.
The slope would be unessecary as our idea involved a powered winch...

Yep... Registered member number 7 and 8 respectively...

Anyways... About the Zipline... it would be a good feature, but you'd need a real good reason for using it other than looking cool, like crossing huge gaps, which MOST UT2004 maps virtually lack. Plus, you'd have to make a code to make Bots use it effectively.

would be nice for getting down from the towers in the face maps to quarter way/half way accross the map, what about ONS applications, many of those maps have very large structures in them and multiple terrain levels, it is a perfectly valid tool
