A shorter, grenade launcher-less version of the M50, basically an M4 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_Carbine ).

Why, you might ask? You mean besides the fact that assault carbines are FUN? ;) Well, I really like the M50, but sometimes it can get a bit annoying when the bots spam grenades all over the place, especially on tight maps. It's (often) the first thing they do when they pick up an M50, or so it seems... Smoke and explosions everywhere, which can cause a good deal of slowdown on low/mid range rigs.

Hence, the 'lite' carbine version... Alt fire could be, for example, bayonet attack, silencer, or laser. The laser could also be the Special function (replacing the camera), with alt being one of the other two. Or, Special could be used to switch between bayonet and silencer, removing one and affixing the other in a single animation sequence.

Ok, apparently everyone thinks it would be lame or something to have another M16 style weapon, but it's not! Think about it... The M50 is a great gun, but the nades really are too intense for smaller maps. All the smoke & explosion fx cause fps drops and poor visibility (which only hampers you, not the bots).

But I'd still like to use an M16 style gun on small maps, or simply whenever I want a quick clean gunfire only match. Also it would be really cool to have a Commando / Spec Ops style silencer and (maybe) laser on the M50, but its alt and special are already taken. Problem solved if you add a carbine version! Lots of realism mods have both versions, standard M16 and M4 carbine. Because it's COOL! B)

None of the upcoming guns really fills the M4 niche, afaik, so every gun would still have a (more or less) unique function.

i see... maybe we can tweak the bots AI to at least make it a little more sane

Well, it's not unusual to have both the M16 & M4 in one mod / game... They're, like, brothers. :) And you could implement some cool Commando features on it!

I like the idea of a brother for the AR, but at least make it look very different and do different damage but have other advantages over the current AR.

Not necessarily... The most important thing is that the models look good and (preferably) are based on real guns. I sure wouldn't mind having, say, an MP5K alongside the XK, even though they're highly similar. Would you? ;)

Anyway, this M4 carbine is a special case because it would basically be an non-spammy version of the M50. That's its main purpose; it's meant as a solution to a very specific problem (grenade spam on smaller maps). The silencer, laser, and slightly different look would be just a bonus, really.

I'm not suggesting they should make alternate versions of all the guns (though I certainly wouldn't mind!) Just this one. Hey, if the US Army, SWAT etc. can have different M16 versions, why not BW? :lol:

Meh, still not enough reason to convince me.

But I think the developers should at least make all the weapons intended and then start to make similar additions.

And it is easy to simply add an option to remove the AR grenades from the gameplay.

Maybe as a temporary solution... but it just wouldn't feel right running around with a half-disabled gun! :S

Hm, maybe instead of disabling the GL it could fire some kind of less spammy ammo, like super shotgun shells or knock-down bean bags / rubber balls? Could be cool as a special option...

Depends... Making the GL fire a big shotgun blast shouldn't be too difficult, just adapt existing shotgun fx. Maybe create a new pickup model (giant shotgun shells) if you're a perfectionist, but that's pretty much it!

That could work, or make it fire a grenade that is not on-impact explosive, so you can take your time to run away from it.
But it will be as laggy as before, at least with my current old system.

Maybe some kind of electric shock grenade? Looks and fires like a regular grenade, but instead of exploding into fire & smoke (which causes lag) it creates a kind of shock combo explosion and zaps the victim with deadly electricity.

Or maybe a grenade that shoots flak shards but has little smoke and other fx = less laggy.

Or... nevermind! Whatever will be, will be. :lol:

Shrapnel grenades cause at least double amount of lag compared to the default ones, but that depends on how well made the shrapnels themselves are designed.

Hey not only that but i'm pretty sure the hands fireing antimation for the grenade launcher would only need minor or no changes to work with it

Yeah this could probably be done on the cheap, but the final result would no doubt be awesome! You could make the shotgun 10 gauge, with 4 rounds in the mag (the original is 12 gauge with 5 rounds). It would be pretty devastating in close quarters combat, but limited ammo capacity, medium rof, and lack of real range (the barrel is quite short) would balance it against the other guns. A great GL alternative for small, tight maps!
