Hi,

Here is the detail on the weapons for the new poll.

There are a few "givens" for the next release, which include the flamethrower, minigun and a few suprizes (we have to keep something to be a suprize) :)

But here is some detail for the poll weapons:

Ballistic Weapons: Copper Jacketed.
Potential Weapons

[b]B1 “Possumâ€

BTW, just to clarify: The Next Release is for a version AFTER 1.70 (which is currently in beta).

Version 1.70 will not have these in.

That list is fantastic. :D
I can't wait to see the models of these weapons!

By the way, is there any big difference between the Grenade Launcher and the Canister Rifle?

hellooo!!!

the artillery strike would be like a super weapon.. big damaging wide radius..

not to much difference between grenade launcher and canister... one more like shotgun.. other more like grenade launcher:)

I really like the J55 Shard Cannon. it would be cool if its primary sorta fallowed enemies or just went straight (straight would be better easier to code)and its alt fire would explode any shards that are moving. dunno what the special function would be would need to see concept art to really think about it!

OK, thx. I voted 'scoped assault rifle' in the 1st poll, but as I mentioned in the other post I like the IG28, Uzis, and Possum just as much. Too bad you can only pick one...

I voted for the UTC Energy Pistol since I didn't see the minigun as an option.

What about the Shard Cannon, i find it has character!! I think the shard cannon primary should work somewhat like the Stinger from Unreal. Just colored crystals that shatter when they hit an obstacle, and get buried deep into fleshy targets.
:D

that could work but would be cool if alt fire made them explode!

Or give them a semi-homing ability, projectiles fired with alt. mode will try to take a right/left turn towards the nearest target.

Damn those guns look like they pack a punch.

But the scope makes them look a little ugly in my opinion. :S

magnum, minigun, and flamer are given weapons.. and those doo look pretty nasty.. if a little bulky

The magnum should look a bit advances...maybe little energy paths running through the notches in the chamber. Could call it the Hybrid Magnum. It uses good old gunpowder, but instead of just a spark, the energy gives it a good boost. Meaning the energy kinda charges the gunpowder.

Idea: You hold primary down to charge the gunpowder with energy. Just tapping primary fire will act like an ordinary magnum.

Nah, I think the UTC Energy Pistol would be a good weapon for that kind of technology.

Well, whatever the exact model, I hope it will be stainless. Stainless revolvers kick ass! B)

I think that's a little too fantastic for BW; IMHO the rail's already pushing it. My standard for near future realism is that if some one says there's far-off research being conducted into a particular technology I wouldn't dismiss it as absurd. The rail fits, but charging chemical explosives with extra energy before deflagration doesn't. Glowing waveguides do look awesome, I love how lots of UT levels have them in the walls. Putting them on some kinda weapon would look cool too, but I don't know how it would fit into BW's style. Weapons use mature technologies because efficiency, reliability, durability, cost-effectiveness and for small arms portability are of utmost importance; military technologies have to be refined and simplified to as close to their optimal forms as possible to be competitive. In BW's timeframe, the rail is just barely mature enough to be feasible. If you want lots of exotic technologies, you need a different setting; maybe where lots of independent spacefaring races meet up and interact like Star Wars or Trek. IMHO that's not BW's flavour; it's gritty and close-to-home in setting to make it feel more real.

Edit: examples added

in our time frame, rail tech would probably be around.. dunno if it would work 4 infantry tho..

I'm glad we don't know. If we did know, and it's a negative, the über sexiness of the anti-tank sniper wouldn't fit in BW. Now I'm trying hard to come up with a way to put glowing waveguides on a weapon that would fit in BW...

I'm still drooling over that absurd pistol... I'm trying to think of the best reason to use such a big pistol in a military setting against humans. Which sounds better to you- closing the gap between sharpshooters' assault rifles and specialised training and the basic combat training and equipment of other soldiers or providing a more powerful backup weapon (maybe with special AP or explosive bullets) to combat new advances in personal armor? Oh, duh, silly me. It's special-made for the Skrith or one of their minions! It's low-tech because it needed to be produced and fielded quickly to respond to a new threat, kinda a stopgap measure.

I can't wait to see the big pistol from the developer's toy factory. And I agree with every point you mentioned above. But however, I think BW has decent ability to have mix of modern and futuristic weapons.
