They do, and it could be some sort of binary type ammo, using organic matter (mayhaps from extracting it from victems?) and machinery and technology needed for the doodad.
The growing bit could make it all the more interesting.

Since there's been ideas about homing hunter-killer drones, here's an idea taken from the Turok series, the Cerebral Bore: This alien weapon locks onto cerebral activity, and fires a projectile that follows an enemy and drills into their skull, spilling cranial fluids everywhere until eventually detonating, leaving them headless. Could be a wicked Cryon weapon. |

Maybe it can lock onto their head and extract organic matter and use it to help grow another drone, either by just assimilating the matter or by absorbing it for nutrients to grow faster or something... I'm just imagining some sort of small, metallic canister-like thing getting launched from the gun, and it repidly expends, with some sort of rudimentary head growing out the top with a tendril like mouth full of teeth all the way around, and a sickly, translucent, pulsating orb on the bottom with its contents visible; gibs from victems its brain sucked... Man, the Cryon are gonna be awesome enemies!
I wonder if they'll be anything like what I imagine... |
