Here's a weapon that I think would be a unique addition to the Ballistic Weapons arsenal. A heavy duty, anti-vehicle, crowd suppressing, superweapon shotgun.

I have seen very few games that feature heavy shotguns and those that do are very fun to use.

For this I propose the SK-AS 410 "Sledgehammer" Mounted Vehicle Shotgun.

The weapon would be a very large weapon, on par with the minigun, that would slow the player's movement during use.

Primary Fire would shoot one of the 80mm shotgun slugs Flak Cannon style with high recoil and blowback. The shot's own blowback triggers the reloading mechanism and drop the vertical clip down a notch priming for the next fire. This would be useful for damaging large enemies or clearing an area of obstacles blocking the players path.

Secondary Fire would fire the slug without splitting the payload in a small strong projectile with high stopping power. A direct hit will result in a frag and possible amputation. :p

Tertiary Fire would set up the weapon on a bipod for more stable firing. Sorta like the minigun. :)

For reloading the player slides the clip down through an opening in the bottom of a gun, if the clip isn't already at the bottom, and inserts a fresh one at the top.

A good ammo amount, I think, would be 6 shots per clip, because ammo for superweapons is probably rare and 6 will allow the weapon to be used for a good amount of time.

Also, if weapons will ever be able to be mounted on vehicles in the future, I think this one would be a good candidate. :)

Very well thought out and developed idea Kelly, and helpful drawings. I hope that the devs really consider this one, would make for some very awesome matchs if both it and the minigun were on the same map.

I'm guessing the rate of fire would be slow since it has not that much ammo?

One thing, the Superweapons in UT2k4, don't have ammo, so its more or less just a powerful weapon.

I love the sound of this, but in reality, a shotgun isn't a very good anti-armor/vehicle weapon. ;)

The shot is much smaller and lack enough momentum to have much penetrating power. Although yours splits the slug, and if you have a fairly big slug to begin with, then the shot could be large enough to have some decent momentum, but then I could go into detail about the aerodynamics of a split chunk of lead... :D

Anyways, all criticism aside ( :D ), I still love it. 8)

I agree with X, a shotgun isn't a good choice for armor penetration, but that's what the secondary fire is for.

This idea = t3h RoXXorZ.
And yeah, 1337 = stupid, but what the heck.

Heh yeah it's a very good idea, I'm guessing it would most likely have alot more kick than the heavy machine gun that's already in Ballistic.

So if you unloaded with this shotty in a low grav map I'm wondering how much momentum you'd get. Enough to fly, soar, or be nudged a bit?

Regardless, very nice concept :3

Well, I would recommend getting a PhotoShop account, and then simply just enter the code (replacing www.image_url.com with the actual URL and putting < and > on the ends.):

IMG SRC=www.image_url.com

If you absolutely can't get photobucket to work, make sure your image is a compatible format (JPEG works best) and click on the Browse button and find the image and then click open. When you post your thread it should appear.

I was going to add more info on the shells, but I thought that would make the initial post too long. :p

I was thinking of Multi-Sabot Flechette or Depleted Uranium shell loads.

Those two shells are known for their penetration power and anti-armour capabilities. If the shell were to be loaded with a couple large Sabot Encased Flechette or Depleted Uranium slugs it would retain the shotgun effect and penetration. :)

The secondary fire would launch a steel casing that would normally be ejected with the shell, causing the payload to be grouped until contact.

While the Depleted Uranium rounds would put your soldier out of commision after 48 hours, he wouldn't be lasting that long anyway. :p

Heh, if it didn't have sufficient propellant it'd be like a bio rifle projectile that you have to stand next to for 24 hours to take damage from. :p

Looks great for onslaught, I could imagine emplaced versions of this defending the base. The thought of these being mounted on vehicles is wow.(drooling)
If only the vehicles weren't so underpowered...

For mounting I was thinking of a type of steel support base that the gun could be hooked on. Maybe a removable piece from the stock.

The metal chip sticking off the side of the main body would have a latch for vehicles and mounts. :) The end result would probably be something like this.

Hmm....that sounds like it would work well. Sabot rounds for bashing vehicles and structures, and flechette rounds for anti-infantry? From your picture, it looks like a mounting thing could be useful in front of the trigger, and maybe the ability to slide the handle back. I personally would like to see this made.
