BW has three shotguns that're pretty similar; the only differences are spread, one has an external magazine, and one has melee function instead of a second barrel. There are a good handful of ideas out there for shotguns, so I'm sure RS will implement some to make the shotguns more distinct from each other. Let us speculate on how it should be. Obviously, I'll go first...

My favourite idea for shotguns is multiple ammo types; particularly different shot sizes. Cycling pickups CUT-style seems difficult from what I read here, so single pickups of multiple ammo types like UT's [strike]assault rifle[/strike] mild verbal abuse rifle seem the way to go. I think the most realistic way would be to add a single-action fire mode that leaves the chamber open to load a different type of ammo, selected with special weapon function. Semi-auto is always the "default" ammo, and the other ammo types are more powerful and rare to balance against the much slower single-action. Fiction-wise, the excuse for why it can't be loaded into the magazine is a difference in weight that the feed mechanism can't handle. Special ammo for the MRT-6 would come in much smaller clips for similar (real) balance reasons and (fictional) engineering reasons and the only way to change what's in the chamber is to empty it by firing. (preferably into an enemy) This could allow for some fun tactics, too; change from one type to another for MRT-6 so your first shot makes the enemy expect totally the wrong thing from the next shot. :evil: It would help support the fiction of the MRT-6 being especially effective. This would in no way interfere with the current functionality, since firemode and special function aren't used on the shotguns yet.

Slug rounds and chokes are other fun ideas. For those who criticise it on basis of the very real fact that changing barrels or chokes is no small task, I agree. However, I think it's a futuristic mod for the same reason it isn't a Tom Clancy mod; fun is more important than realism, so we can just let anything reasonable be invented in BW's fiction if it would be fun. Equip the big yellow shotgun with a slug barrel on one side and a shot barrel on the other, with chokes that can be added to the latter like the SMG's silencer. Primary fire's slugs, secondary's shells, special function's change choke. Then our three shotguns would be much more unique, not just from each other but from everything else out there. :whoohoo:

I like your ideas, multiple ammo types is about the only thing that can make the Shotguns more different though.

its likely that we will do some of these things for our next big release.. choke, and ammo types..
