i couldnt get to sleep last night... i was watching this film and this guy had a real nice crossbow.. and i thought wow that would be a good idea for BW... but i have no Idea at all how to design or do anything like that so i was thinking if someone could make a quick sketch.... it would be auto reloading, with a 8 bolt Barrel which kinda spins to Reload the Next Bolt, Steel Bolts With a VERY sharp end, to go Flying into people at hig speeds and to ruin there insides basiclly, the crossbow would be shiny and Look Very Futureristic, it would have a Laser Sight and Scope which zooms pretty far out.

ok... i kinda figured out a story line to it...


in (DATE HERE) A Crossbow was found in a Cave under The Castle Of Mondanovia in The outer Regions Small planet (NAME). Minutes After The Crossbow was taken From The Stone It Was Set in, Unholy Creatures of some kind Appeared from the floors And Walls... The Explorers under the castle Used There Weapons but they had No effect on the creatures, The Person who found the Crossbow decided to use it on the creatures, He shot one, and It fell to the ground and evaporated... he Decided to Shoot the rest, His friends found ammo and Threw it down to him... after around half an hour battling the Creatures, the Unholy creatures were defeated, and the crossbow taken to a museum, the Crossbow was then Stolen and Taken To a Secret Base were it was worked on day and night for 2 Years, they found the source of its power, from reading ancient mithical books they found out how exactly to replicate the weapon, Its Former Owner. Vladamir Korobase had been a vampire slayer, and Incorporatedd a Sacred Rocks Powers into the Bolts, making it the best weapon against the Vampiresm later on in the skrith wars, the Crossbow renamed 'DeadBolt' as The new Redesign of the Crossbow With a revolving Cylinder with 8 shots Could fire, rapid, longshots, and Acurate shots, With an alternative exploding Bolt, which proved Extremly Powerful against the Skrith forces.

Aaron, use the edit/modify button next time you want to add something. As for you story, set it out in 3 line paragraphs, so it won't cause headaches trying to read it.

As for the weapon itself, it would be interesting, high damage, fairly high accuracy and no muzzle flash, though it would still be weak against high rof weapons like the Assault Rifle and Machineguns if attackinfg them head-on, thus it's balanced.

It Would Be Classed As A super Weapon plus if you combine Rappid fire lets say every quater of a second a bolt is fired it wouldnt be very acurate, but good closer range.

in the other hand if you just want to fall back you can use long shot. pop a few headshots?

or if your in mid Battlefield, you can use accurate and blow some limbs off! but it wouldnt be used all the time, from a lack of amunition and only needed in vital times.

so basicly its a sniper rifle, but with the extra added bonus of Exploding arrows (seperate Pickup) could be good in any situation, its a mithical Weapon as well, someone suggested a mithical weapon

well... nice idea but i don't think a crossbow would have a high refire rate.
but it will do very good damage, relatively light weight and accurate.
and adding other types of arrows would be fun, for example:
1. normal sharp arrows
2. poisoned arrows, would do the same damage like normal arrows but decreasing the health slowly after hitting a target.
3. explosive arrows, explode on impact, lower speed and range but deals a lot of damage in a small blast radius.


the story doesn't fit to the theme of BW but i have a alternative idea:

on a far and recently colonised planet humans were attacked by aliens, this war with the aliens went on with a large attack every week.
after some time they were out of materials to produce ammunition, as a last desperate attempt to survive the next attacks before reinforcements would come they produced large amounts of crossbows.
this was only possible because of the large amount of metals on the planet.
this weapon was proven to be effective witch allowed the humans to last out a few weeks before reinforcements came.
after this war the crossbow was introduced as a military weapon, because it didn't need any chemicals and was proven to be effective.
and in the end scientists added 2 more different arrow types.

oh... and by the way, a crossbow idea was mentioned a few times before here on runestorm forums.

If you guys want a crossbow that looks cool and has different types of bolts, you could try ChaosUT2 (google ChaosUT). It might not be as good as a BW crossbow, but it is pretty good.

The Chaos crossbow is hard as hell to use though. I can never lead targets right with it.

A.: A crossbow bolt can deliever an EMP-charged arrow that sticks to the enemy's armour, effectively disabling power armor / vehicles. Also, I could think about a 'tazer arrow' with a tip similar to the tactical shotguns' tazer thingie.

Q.: Why not use rockets?
A.: Why use a heavy rocket launcher if the projectile is designed to be significantly smaller than a rocket?! Also rockets are supposed to explode on impact, and a tazer/EMP arrow is supposed to stick to the target for some seconds in order to disable or short-circuit it.

Q.: Why one would ever bother to invent something like this? Isn't heavy RPGs better?
A.: A crossbow is a relatively small personal weapon, so it could be carried along with an assault rifle and used by a large number of soldiers in a regiment. One can carry a lot of EMP arrows with him, they're much smaller than the G5 rockets. Thus EMP crossbows can be effective against small mobile robots or enemies in power armour. Also, the arrows can be tracked and shot down by automatic rocket defense systems because heat / emp / sonic sensors are virtually useless against an arrow. It shares the same temperature as the environment, it makes a very quiet sound if any, it doesn't emit anything because the arrow tip is only activated upon impact.

A small plasma grenade shaped as a crossbow bolt would be effective at long distances, because at long distances plasma balls from a plasma rifle are supposed to dissipate gradually until they cool down and turn into a puff of hot air.
