Here's another one of my crazy weapon ideas...

DESCRIPTION:
An Electro-magnetic Disruptor - The Skrith's take on a hand grenade, the only difference being it can't kill people. It disrupts any and all electronic equipment, leaving victims with only melee weapons or other things that don't require electricity or heat to operate.

Primary Fire:
Tosses the bomb. The longer a player holds, the farther it will be thrown. Its only difference from other grenades is that it explodes on impact, and its radius of effect is proportional to the amount of energy it has (more on this later...).

Item Capacity:
Players can only carry 2 of these at any given time, and each Ammo Pack gives players 1 extra bomb (still open to suggestion).

Fire Modes:
1) Sets up the bomb for a short-ranged throw

2) Sets up the bomb for a long-ranged throw

Secondary Fire:
This weapon's shining glory... Holding down the secondary fire shields its user with a strong Electro-magnetic Barrier. This can deflect bullets around the barrier, repel electricity, withstand enormous explosions and temperatures, and absorb energy-based projectiles in order to prolong its own energy-output (but cannot be fully-recharged). Also, running into traps (mines, Plasma walls, etc.) while the barrier is active immediately disables them upon contact, making it a perfect escape tool. However, if the bomb's energy runs out (the shield lasts about 5-6 seconds, given that there are no allies charging it with energy-based projectiles), its user will automatically discard it. To prevent this from happening, players can deactivate the shield and leave just enough energy for the weapon to be thrown at targets, but as stated above, its radius of effect is proportional to the amount of energy it has left.

SPECIAL FIRE:
This weapon has two special fire modes:

1) As mentioned way above - this is the bomb's default mode. Its radius of effect is roughly about 2 meters. Anyone caught within that radius (be they friend or foe) will have all their electronic equipment shut-down for a good 15-20 seconds, left to the mercy of either: the blades of their enemies, those who are far enough from the explosion (snipers), or those who wield non-electronics-based weaponry (like the Skrith Composite Tactical Bow).

2) Activating this mode gives the bomb a timer, just long enough for it to be thrown a considerable distance. After the time is up, the bomb emits short bursts of EMP within a radius of 15 meters, effectively shutting-down players' equipment until they move away from the zone of effect. Now, players can desaturate this zone by destroying the bomb itself (with a melee weapon, of course), but other than that (if the bomb is thrown in a place where no one can reach it or it's very well-hidden), they have no choice but to wait for 15-20 seconds until the bomb runs out of energy.

Blah~ I really have a vivid imagination... Hopefully these weapons turn into reality someday...

I like the shield idea. Wouldn't even be that hard to code the AI to cooperate with fueling the shield, as there's already similar code for the UT Link Gun.

But EMP grenade = silly idea. Why would I want to disable my enemies with an EMP grenade when I could KILL them with a frag grenade? My vote goes to make it an actual energy grenade.

I was thinking something in the lines of "torture device" when it came to this Skrith-based grenade...

If the Skrith loved to use their dual-blades as much as the Skaarj do, they'd want to get as close to their enemies as possible... This grenade makes that goal easier to reach.

EMP grenades are capable of deep frying organs when the energy released is powerful enough, like a few terawatts.

Okay, how about this:

The EMP affects player's weapons in the general vicinity of the blast.

But, if a player is DIRECTLY hit by the grenade itself, it sticks to him/her and, as Bjossi said, fries him/her to death (or just to a certain, non-fatal extent... whatever is more fitting).

Realistically, an EMP bomb powerful enough to fry organs, has the range of hundreds of kilometers where it fries every electronic.

But of course the closest 1 - 3 kilometers is the range where people die from the EMP.

Yeah. . .imbalanced. And if you're going to be playing with a 3 terawatt device anyways, I can think of a lot more fun to be had with that much energy than an EMP.

EMP shield??? OMG how could you think of something like that, do you know what EMP means. well that means: Electro Magnetic "Pulse", so come on it's a "Pulse". and well... that can't be any shield at all. the only use for an EMP grenade is to fry the electronics in a vehicle. so i don’t see no other use for an EMP weapon.

and plz. stop thinking of strange weapons, and also plz. don't talk about things you don't know any "S..T" of.

You want to yell and whine about what people say here? Fine. Yell at your monitor, where we can't hear it. But don't make the rest of us put up with you being immature towards people who might not know as much as you.

If it makes you so angry, then leave. This mod is aiming at semi-realism, using scientific terms without any realistic background is intentional to make things interesting gameplay-wise.

I'm sure EMP shield was supposed to be written as EM shield, one can make typos in scientific words can't they?

I was hoping for an EMP type grenade to go with a new possible grenade launcher, but now I really dont know whats the case is with this one.

For those still curious about this weapons leathal properties I have but one suggestion: BRAINSHOCK!

The brain has hundreds of billions of neurocells, you don't want a very powerful EMP to hit that area. But it would certainly affect the rest of the body too...

Curious? I will explain.

The Brainshock was a grenade idea I mentioned some time ago concerning flashbang grenades. I came up with the idea during a discussion as to why the AM67 flash ability can blind you from behind.

The brainshock has become a sort of in-joke now as I had no real plans to see it implimented but it still crosses my mind whenever we discuss weapons that has a mental effect.

How can an EMP grenade be harmful? I reference my brainshock grenade as a weapon that releases a powerful neural disrupting electromagnetic field. The field intereferes with the spinal chord and the electrical signals your brain uses to send messages around the body. In other words it really screws you up.

Anyone caught in this field experiences, siesures, blindness, confusion, memory loss, frothing at the mouth, numbness in all limbs and temporary hearing loss.

Also while the brainshock does minimal damage at the outskirts of the blast, it will severely electrocute enyone caught near the center of the blast.
