Mjolnir [Pronounced myohl-nir]

Background:
Designed as an alternative to the EKS43 Katana for the UTC's own 12th Krao Disposal Division, more commonly known as the Foe Cleavers; a group of stubborn, elite warriors specialized in close combat with their much hated enemy, who refuse to use a katana due to a general distaste for any melee weapon that doesn't involve smashing brains in (with blatant disregard for the the fact that Cleaving does not, in fact, include smashing brains in).

Developed by a group of researchers who hail from Iceland, the Mjolnir is quite capable turning the average krao into a chunky, burnt goo.

They took the weapon so iconic to the Foe Cleavers, the war hammer, and experimented with it to see how they can make such a simple, devastating weapon more brutal without adding too much complexity that it would slow down the warriors (the Cleavers aren't known for their brilliant intellect).

After extensive tests, they found a use for an unexplainable material found after a particularly fierce battle with the skrith. It was as if they were protecting some sort of holy relic. The material had an extraordinary property when given an electric charge; it seemed to weigh incredibly heavy the greater the charge. Common scientific explanation for this was that it had some sort of odd molecular structure that is given something like a negative half-life when charged with electricity and the mass gained from the negative half-life is quickly lost after losing the charge, but that explanation doesn't sit well for many, considering the mass itself does not change through the process. Naturally, this seemed perfect for an already electric war hammer, despite lack of further knowledge on what effects this matter has on humans.

The result is resembles quite remarkably the weapon of the ancient Viking god Thor. Capable of doing structural damage to iron support beams and concrete walls and emitting a loud thunderclap and electric discharge when striking an object, this hammer fits Thor's hammer quite nicely for a mortals' weapon.

Naming it after Thor's hammer, the Mojlnir, they presented the Cleavers this new toy. Since then the Foe Cleavers have earned the nickname Thor's Hand, among other, less polite and less glorious names.

The inner workings of this hammer consist of an internal chamber holding an amount of that mysterious material, with an electric charge being sent through it by holding in a trigger/button while being swung. Upon hitting something, capacitors are discharged, releasing electricity and shortly afterwards dropping the electric charge going through the material unknown, causing it to get lighter and returning control to the wielder.

In a game that supports it, this hammer should be able to tear down destructible things with great ease. Unfortunately for us interior decorators-in-training, the current version of BW does not support it, though if it ever was supported, this hammer would be great at it. ;)

Primary Fire:
Swing that hammer around like the berserker you know you are. With electricity going it uses up ammo per hit. Attack rate is rather slow. Massive damage.

Alternate Fire:
Prepared Smash. Uses ammo per hit as primary fire. Massive damage.

Special 1:
Block melee attacks.

Reload:
Turn hammer off.

Ammo:
Uses a self charging battery pack similar to that of the skrith pistol. Uses stolen skrith tech to achieve this.

This hammer can be used with or without ammo available. Without electricity the damage this does is about 1/3 that of a charged strike.

Ammo goes down quite rapidly.

The ammo gradually recharges when not hitting something or when switched off.

Note: As with the lightning gun, this is not an ideal aquatic weapon. Mayhaps with the electricity shut off you could use it in water without risk.

Special Feature:

Hammer Jump.

When a charge is running through the hammer, any hit you make leaves a small concussive shock wave capable of knocking back many things. It won't send things flying, hit it will send things away.

If you hit any solid surface (wall or floor for example) you will be knocked away from the shock wave. This can be used to your advantage when you swing to the ground. The blast wave alone will only send you a few feet up, but if you time your jump correctly, you can go distances greater than normal.

Sounds alright, a little odd for a weapon though.

I find it too odd for this mod. It's about modern/futuristic/skaarjy weapons right?

Not exactly, alot of people have suggested modern day weapons and even WWII weapons. It seems the time frame is really not considered and as long as it looks futiristic it has a possibility

I prefure high tech, chrome, creative, futuristic weapons myself but a Meelee weapon is great by me.

Captain. Xavious is it possible to use the secondary fire like the impact hammers primary fire? I have not gone hammer jumping since UT99 ;)

This would be a good addition since we already have 3 fast slashy meelee weapons but no slow smashy meelee weapons apart from the butt of one particular shotgun.

This is modern/futuristic. Its basically a stun baton in the shape of a war hammer with a mysterious material in it that makes it gain in weight and therefore in momentum, making it capable of causing even more damage than a human could normally do.

There's a katana in here, there's a tazer attached to a shotgun in there, how do they fit and a war hammer/stun baton not?

As for a hammer jump, well that doesn't really make a lot of sense for a hammer, but what the hell, berserkers love charging into battle, and a few deaths from above might not be too bad a thing. ;)

How about this, when it hits something when charged, the hammer creates a shock wave that sends things flying. Normally you wouldn't go flying (you know, that one guys law or something about apples hitting you on heads and stuff, and since your hammer is harder to move due to temporarily increased weight than your victim), but if you hit an unmovable thing, you'd get knocked backwards a bit. If you hit the ground and jump at the right time, you get an upwards and slightly forwards boost, but maybe the shock wave should do some damage?

Here's a little doozy for you: how do you pronounce Mjolnir?

Author:  Bjossi [ Sat Jun 09, 2007 7:49 pm ]
Post subject:  Mjolnir War Hammer

I can easily pronounce it correctly, I don't know about native English people though.

Meh-joal-nere? I dunno, who speaks Norse?

I can go with the shockwave theory, if fact it sounds pretty cool. A hammer that can release a cataclysmic hyperblast. Hows that for futuristic? 8)

Post subject:  Mjolnir War Hammer

Well, I have no clue what a cataclysmic hyperblast even is, and not too sure if I pronounce it right, but it sure as heck sounds cool. :p

It's prununciated as Mee-ul'nir.

You cant delete your own posts apparently.

Although the messageboard software for this forum should have that feature

Again with the words I don't understand! :P

Oh yeah, and Datstylel is right, but I got the pronunciation up first. ;)

I'll need to add in the hammer jump soon...

It sounds like a thunderhammer from warhammer 40K. I'm alll for it, though I don't know how useful it would actually be.

For the record: neologism = Act of creating a new word or meaning to a word.

English, begat thou victory!

Well as far as usefulness goes I am hoping this weapon can fill in a missing gap in our melee weapons: One that is slower but does more damage.

Plus if hammer jumping is implemented you bet you will be using it alot.

WH40k did come to mind when thinking about this, but I only saw drawings and pics of the miniatures for it, I don't really know much about the weapons.

As for usefulness, well, its about as useful as another melee weapon. To some that holds little value, but to me, that's quite a bit of use. I know others want more melee weapons, particularly a heavy weapon such as this.

Methinks the Hammer should emit an electric shockwave when you swing it on the ground... You jump... They die... EVERYBODY'S HAPPY~!!!

It's like a war hammer, like one you might see in medieval times, but it is most like the war hammer of Thor.
