My friend thinks that the G5 rocket has been made a insta kill weapon...

I have never died from a G5 rocket with that much health and armor, and I have survived one into the face with much lower stats.

Yeah, i've surivived many a G5 rocket, whetehr by side steping it, or just having loads of armor and health and letting it smash my face.

We tested it out.

A G5 does a maximum of 200 damage, which is more than enough to make it overpowered in most situations, with its ease of use and massive blast radius. For reference, pineapples do 250, while the M290 can do up to 600 damage in one double-blast.

I do agree with the damage complaints though. The G5 should be much more powerful with a direct hit, but with a smaller blast radius and less maneuverability to compensate.

I mean in you can fire it in one direction and turn it completely around without it hitting the walls in the flak corridor of 1-on-1-Idoma.

It kind of did seem very odd that the devs increased the G5 speed, increased its damage radius and gave it a deadly alt fire.

Well explode and kill. By what i said i was and still am not choosing sides on this, i'm the worst person to ask info on weapon balancing, my only ability is to tell if its spammy or not.

But yes a G5 should be exactly that. A direct hit should understandably be lethal.

You forget, this is Unreal, where people have Hammerspace and survive fatal shots to the head (even with a Lightning gun!).

A rocket launcher should definitely have a much higher max damage than a shotgun.

EDIT: Also, a rocket should not be able to fly 1m radius circles. Take a G5 in ONS-Torlan, point it at the sky with the laser sights on, fire, and wait. An interesting thing occurs.

And the moving rocket launcher doesn't have enough chaos. This should change.

Yea, I've seen that bug with the circling rocket. Strange, huh?

I wouldn't mind seeing it have a larger turning radius as it's just plain frustrating trying to duck behind a corner to avoid a homing rocket only to find it travels over the building your hiding in, knocks on the door a couple times, b*itch slaps you once or twice, then blows up in your face after desecrating your grandma's grave.

(Note: there may have been some exaggeration there, but damn those rockets are hard to shake!)

Reducing the rockets flexibility would definetly make it easier to dodge and put more reliance on the lock-on feature for a direct hit. You dont need to make it a brick either, a slight adjustment will do.

Its been suggested before and might just cut it.

Yeah. The only reason why someone would really want the G5 changed is just because your not trying hard enough to use it fully, or you just don't know how to jump out of the way.

It still feels weird to see a person survive a direct hit by a rocket launcher, at least by a RL of the G5's caliber.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it jumping, but going into your comfy little base in Bloodgulch oughta classify as being a fairly safe spot from rockets, but surprise surprise!

I've seen a weakness with locked G5 missiles.

They launch to the air, and at a point, they come RIGHT at you.
Making them easy target for any other weapon, I shot down 5 G5's coming right at me with my sniper rifle without dying. (Was playing with G5's with my bro in our own new city map)

Oh cmon, they are awesome now! They are ulimately powerful but the rockets are so slow that its easy to dodge one and the reloading takes forever! Its really balanced as it is now.

But players with their locking...
A locked missile is near impossible to avoid! But you can shoot them down because they come straight at you from the air.

This is just natural selection at work; the best ones survive in the long run. Master the art of shooting down rockets and they won't be a threat anymore.

Sometimes we don't need to babysit the players with balancing, but to tell them to simply use the weakness of a said weapon to their advantage when in defense.

I only think the rockets should have just a little bigger turning radius. Other than that I think they're fine, rather frustrating at times, but fine.

In no way do I think of them unbalanced though. I just think that those rockets have an unnaturally smart AI that guides them around hazards and such, and combined with tight turning radii equals a really tough missile to shake.

The lock-on isn't the worst part of the G5. It's the laser guidance. It makes it near impossible to shoot down and extremely difficult to avoid.

In a close-corridor indoor fight, which occurs in most UT maps, the only way to avoid a laser-guided G5 death is to either get the hell out of Dodge and get completely out of sight of the attacker or hold your ground and shoot the attacker dead before the missile hits you.

What I would like to see is to decrease its blast radius and turning speed, while increasing the speed by a significant amount and double the max damage.

Basically a more concentrated blast, like an anti-vehicle rocket.

More chaos while moving and a bigger movement penalty would help. I would also love to see the rocket affected by gravity, so an unguided rocket would fall back to earth, and takes longer on the way up when mortared.

You would all be surpised just how much difference that can make. I have played games where turning speed was a comparable aspect between different rockets. And no matter how much damage a rocket does, turning speed can still come out on top.

An even slightly lower turning speed means:

The rocket cant so smartly avoid obstacles

The rocket cant descend on players so rapidly

Spinning the laser guide means the rocket cant go in a tight spin thats impossible to hit. In fact I would like to see this send the rocket flying out of control.

Overall the rocket is easier to dodge.

I think you should be very satasfied by such a change Kaboodles.

My thoughts, its perfect as is, maybe not entirely perfect for you whinny online players, but BW is SinglePlayer First, Mulitiplayer second from what i remember the devs once saying.
