I've been wanting a silenced sniper weapon for some time now, and I think it'd be pretty good in balance actually.

---

The C2 is a 5 bullet sniper rifle that is able to silenced with a long silencer. The gun is about the same size as the R78, but the silencer makes it about 6 inches longer. Unsilenced, it is 1.25x as powerful as the current R78 is, but the silencer brings the power down to only the same power as the current R78 due to reverse magnetic rails that slow the aluminum bullets down drastically. The main idea is that the current R78 should get a power boost to about 1.4x the current power.

As the C2 was first a winter rifle, it is colored a snow white, making it easy to spot in the night if one looks hard enough. Other than that, it is very diffficult to spot silenced. Unsilenced, it gives off a white puff of smoke when fired, but when silenced it gives a much smaller puff of smoke.

It's a simple rifle that needs to be recocked after every shot, like the R78. However, the gun's mechanism is quite heavy, and takes about 2 seconds to cock, and makes a distinct sound as the shell gets ejected during the recocking process. Hope you're not too close to the target, else they'd hear the cocking if you missed!

Finally, the C2 fires special .50 cal bullets that will pierce armor of humans, but is extremely weak to vehicle armor, due to the high-velocity bullets being very weak in design, prefering aerodynamics over power (only the bullet size makes up to give the bullet much power from design). The bullets makes a delayed fly-by sound, and is harder to hear than normal bullet fly-bys from the bullets' special aero properties.

Is this based off something in 007 Nightfire? Winter Covert Sniper Rifle sounds so familiar.

I think the white glares and stuff completely kill the fact that it's a stealth sniper. Maybe balance it in any other way, shape, or form?

How would it be possible to eliminate the sound from bullet flybys? Any kind of high-speed movement will rapidly compress and displace air, creating sound waves and things.

Additionally, for a silencer to decrease the damage the bullet makes, it would have to physically slow down the bullet by making contact with it. This is necessary to reduce the sonic boom created by high-velocity bullets. Repeated firings would obviously wear down the contacts very quickly, so it would only be effective the first few firings.

Also, I agree with Kylin's comments about the glare. There exist today filters that reduce glare without too much degradation in image quality.

Lol, I was thinking of Nightfire too.

I agree with Kaboodles on the silencer and tracer. Increased chaos would fit more with the silencer instead of damage reduction.

i was thinking of 007 as well :P
cool weapon....

Yeah, it's based on the Winter Covert Rifle from Nightfire... you guys got me there.

I still think a damage reduction for the silencer would work better than just more chaos, since you'll not really fire the gun while running anyways (unless you are an idiot, just like in Nightfire). Maybe the fly-bys would be with a delayed sound from the aero properties of the bullet instead of none at all. And... maybe the silencer has magnetic rails to decrease the bullet speed with a magnetic field force? That'd work, since I was originally thinking of the bullets being made of aluminum (actually carbon fiber, but I kinda threw that out).

I'll edit the first post to see how that works.

Aluminum isn't magnetic.

Also, if you simply use a magnetic force to propel the bullet instead of chemical propellants, you'd have a pretty silent weapon right there.

People already working on making magnetic gauss pistols that makes no sound when fired. They're ugly as hell, and not exactly powerful, but we have the advantage of FUTURE TECHNOLOGY that can make anything work.

EDIT: What's wrong with the SRS900? It's very capable as a silenced sniper rifle.

Wow, lets talk more about those coil guns! They may be ugly but if runestorm were to make one of those, trust that they will fix that problem. ;)

Some of those guns look absolutely awesome, remarkeably futuristic. I like the ones that look like UT's Enforcer

Uh... I'm not exactly a magnets person... tell me what they use in magnets.... and heck no, I don't really want a silent weapon when unsilenced, I want a huge bang unsilenced!

And the SRS isn't long enough ranged for me, and plus, it's very weak as a sniper weapon. Plus, more weapons is always a plus!

^ Yeah, it is always a great thing to sport more weapons. I just want some silenced sniper! And I don't mean the SRS900... That's a short ranged sniper/long ranged assault rifle. Or.... just a battle rifle.

why not just rally for sticking a silencer on the current rifle

Well... it'd not be very balanced for visibility compared to a white variant. And plus, I'd rather see a 5-bullet rifle that has a low of power against humans but not vehicles. On top of that, I'd like to see the R78 get a design revamp and more power, making it a vehicle destroyer, along with tthe Railgun (just that the R78 is an anti-light vehicles weapon).
