Some kind of energy field emitter, similar to the Paladin secondary shield in vanilla UT. Primary fire projects the field, secondary fire can be charged to emit a blast wave. Special fire changes the firemode:
Defensive blocks projectiles like the Paladin, can also be used as a minesweeping tool, although players and monsters can still move through the field. Blastwave function will deflect shots, monsters and onther players away from the user.
Offensive won't block projectiles, but deals damage to players and monsters (they can still pass through, but are damaged doing so) Blastwave triggers a pulse that will damage all enemies caught in it's path
I figured having a field that could push other players was verging on gravgun turf, but perhaps if the user had to remain still to use this function, it wouldn't become too imbalanced.

The other gun I considered was a deployable that when used, hoses the area in front of it with flak shards. It's just a box full of ammo you place on the floor and aim at a location (like with the satchel's laser). When you trigger it, it fires at that point for 5-10 seconds before running out of ammo and exploding.
Imagine a couple of these dropped behind to deter anyone pursuing the flag carrier on ther homeward run, or one set up to damage an ONS node while you move in to take out the defenders

The deployable gun sounds nice, especially if it would be combined with the upcoming minigun that will be deployable as well.

i like the growing member number!! but the deployable thing.. minigun for now.. no shield as of yet..

What about being able to generate a shield around a deployed minigun to protect it against big attacks? I think that'd create great strategical possibilities.

i dont think the Minigun would be shielded.. mainly because the thing will crank out bullets at such a rate.. (50 rounds a second) the guy using the thing will be very dangerous.. u need to be able to kill him :)

50 bullets per second? Holy grandpa! I thought he minigun would just spray around 25 or 30 bullets per second...

But you'd be able to take down the shield if it was there, you'd just need to use a mix of defense and offense. :)
