SS12 Long-Range Shotgun

The SS12 is an odd gun, for it combines a shotgun and a ranged rifle. It is a scoped one-barreled shotgun-rifle that can fire at the range of a sniper, but using a shotgun pellet. To travel this distance, however, engineers had to make modified pellets, which allows increased range at the cost of less spread. It still is a deadly weapon in the hands of a skilled gunner.

The downside is that the SS12 saw limited release and manufacturing. Ammunition is hard to find, and the gun itself can only hold one pellet at a time. It also tends to be fairly loud, making it impossible for stealth situations. Although the SS12 is scoped, it can not zoom in as close as the scopes attatched to sniper rifle.

Recently, however, the SS12 was modified to include a tear gas grenade launcher. The tear gas can be shot very far, and can be used to cover for troops when in a tight situation.

Secondary Fire: Tear Gas Grenade

Special: None

Ammo: 1, 15 reserves max

Pros: Shotgun power with moderate range, tear gas.

Cons: Note that it's MODERATE range, limited ammo, less spread.

lol, my personal opinion - i rather go for auto shotgun than for sniper shotgun

This reminds me of a story of a soldier in Iraq, he had a shotgun cant remeber what it was but he saw a man runnning at their group he either had a gun or a bomb vest i cant remeber but the soldier lifted the shotgun fired and killed the the person running towards them the shot was in the 100 yds range i think. I dont know if the story is valid but im pretty sure it is because i think i saw it on american rifleman or shooting gallery on tv. You could make a medium range sniper shotgun for close range encounters like the tactical turkey shotgun, for in close qaurter matches where you want the lethality of the shotgun but the accuracy of a snipers rifle.

Just one pellet? Or did you mean shell?

Also, if you want range, why not just go with a rifle? It would be more accurate and carry smaller (thus more) ammunition.

I have an old Marlin goose gun, [circa 1950] it is a 10 guage bolt action three shot gun that is close to six feet long. Not a good battlefeild weapon, through it's ghost ring you can bring down a goose at heights close to 5,000 feet. the long barrel and xchokes really damp out the spread of the shell making it so can can reach out and strike hard from a looong distance away. A sniper shotty would be a hoot.

One shell, my bad. The Long Range Shotgun also has deadly damage if used efficiently. It also has a smaller version of spread you get from a shotgun, so closely bunched groups can still be taken down quickly.
The spread actually comes out a little after the shell leaves the chamber, thus letting it travel a little further before it opens up and lets the pellets fly out. I never said that accuracy is drastically decreased. I only said range is slightly closer than snipers.

@Kien: Why have another shotgun? Then why have another rifle? A pistol? A new knife or something? Besides it's not a full-blooded shotty either, since it has more range and smaller spread. No one at Runestorm ever put a "weapon limit" on anything. The amount of weapons in each class is somewhat balanced as well, so it still plausible to have a sort-of shotgun.

post some pics of that marlin goose gun. Ive never heard of a shotgun shoot 5000 feet, ive heard of like 20-40 yards but never 5000 feet. thats a challengeing shot with a rifle let alone a gun that can only effectibely shoot 100 yards.

So as the pellets leave the barrel they spread out, im a litle confuesd, thats how a normal shotgun works, whats the difference between yours and a normal one.

the powder is ignited by the firing pin striking the primer the powder cumbust building pressure forceing the wad of bbs out the shell and out the gun the whole action takes less than a second then you eject the empty shell either manualy or if its an auto loader the gun does it when the bolt cycles.

The Long Range Shotgun's shell is designed to be able to travel further. That;s why it's a Long Range Shotgun. There definetly is some way to make the shell open up a little later.

the shell has to open all the way to let the shot out or it would explode in the chamber. The shell doesnt go out the barrel, it is ejected out the side, the only thing that leaves the barrel is the wad and the bbs.

You're a little mixed up here man. The term 'shell' refers to the entire cartridge, containing the shot, powder, primer, etc.

I think what you want it do is, instead of shooting out pellets from the barrel, it would fire a slug that fragments in mid-air, spreading apart like pellets leaving the barrel. The tricky part would be when to have it fragment.

Still, I don't see the point. At range, you want a rifle, especially in a video game. Assuming the same damage and pellet count as a 12-gauge, it wouldn't reliably take out tightly grouped enemies, unless they were low on health.

The long ranged shotgun is named long ranged because it can give somebody that extra distance and get the same desirable results that you get from a shotgun. A rifle will still be the weapon of choice, but the long range shotgun eliminates the need to get close to be effective in situations that you can't afford to get close.

But...

If the spread is tighter, it would be harder to use at close range anyway.

Kaboodles, in my post above yours I said the SS12 is for situations where you want the power but you don't want to get close. I intended the tighter spread to be used to balance out the gun.

Rifles are powerful and have long range. They are also very accurate.

Why would you build a shotgun for this purpose?

meatboy unless i have diffinitive proof of a shotgun shooting 1500 ft then ill believe it. even 100yds is pushin it for a shotgun.

Although i get the idea Kylin i dont know if it would be needed if you had rifles that work at any range in unreal. interesting idea though and i think if you keep working on it and give it something awesome then i think youd have a great idea, untill then i think its an interesting idea that just needs more refinement.

Maybe instead of birdshot (thats what im guessing is in the bw one) maybe give this one buckshot, there are less pellets but the ones in there are bigger and pack more of a punch.

Buckshot sounds nice. That Mythbusters "can you shoot someone underwater" myth was awesome, especially when the buckshot blew up the water tank instead.

That's something I don't get about the current shotguns. Birdshot is hardly ideal for killing people.

Suck it up Mr.unhappy face! Anyway I think a long ranged shotgun is a good idea as long as I'm not getting owned by a guy like a mile away in some bushes.

Just the thought of getting hit with something like a remintion copper soild round. Think 2omm hollow point. Brrrr. Also note a rifled slug gun can hit at close to 200 yards. That would be a nasty weapon.
