Bah, if I will ever get enough time to learn ut2004 modding, I will make weapons that I like.

Maya isn't very good for hard edge modeling since it lacks decent snap functions and a few other things. |

Well i like me some maya. I dont know what hard edge modeling is, but it seems to work just fine. plus this is a thread about the gun not the program. |

Hm oki... hard edge modeling is hard solid mechy shapes. Isn't the gun having a little bit too many polygonus? |

Cool indeed. I've been fooling around with Maya PLE, but the interface frightens me. SO MANY BUTTONS! D: |

i like it, have you considered putting the ammo clip in the butt or behind the trigger so we can get a bullpup? that would free up space for a grenade launcher, or even a second muzzle that shoots shotgun shells or even a small auto pistol for close range defense. |

Erm,look at it again and tell me honestly if putting the clip in the butt is actually a good idea.

It isn't very good for hard edge modeling if you don't know how to work your way around the program. I learned modeling using Maya, I continued to use Maya, and I still use Maya. I tried Max and found it much simpler in terms of beginners, but I didn't find it as efficient (for lack of a better word). I almost never model organics, usually always man-made objects (hard edges) and I find the snapping functions in Maya to be quite adequate. Sure, there isn't a snap for everything I need, but I know how to quickly and efficiently get around it. P.S. Since this thread is about the gun, I thought I better say something about it..... Looking good!

the butt can BE the clip, like the bullets are inside the butt. |

I almost never model organics, usually always man-made objects (hard edges) and I find the snapping functions in Maya to be quite adequate. Sure, there isn't a snap for everything I need, but I know how to quickly and efficiently get around it. It lacks midpoint snap which is the second most used snap, if want to place something in the middle of an edge, the only way I know is to add an edge loop in the middle just so you can snap to it's vertices, which is a really stupid way. Also maya can't snap from different components, it can only snap from the objects pivot point which means if you have a box and want to place the corner of it at another object you must snap the pivot to the corner vertex and the move it. How often do you want to snap from the pivot? Almost never. In max you can even snap from components from other objects. Also maya does not have 2D snap, which is the snap you use 95% of the time, you have to move the object along 1 axis at a time which takes double the time. However the max 3D snap isn't very good, while maya's is perfect. Max also has a who bunch of snaps specific for NURBS which is quite strange that maya doesn't since it's very good for NURBS modeling while max is not. Another thing is the lack of autogrid as far as I know. All new created objects are created aligned to the world axis with Y coordinate 0. In max you can create and at the same time align a new object at the face you are pointing at, which is quite useful. Another (very stupid) issue in maya is that you can not see an objects world coordiantes, nor can you give it new, you can only change the objects local coordinates. From what I know, it's a little bit pain in the ass to fix you so can work from another objects local axis. Working with simple splines instead of NURBS is prefered most of the time, which maya does not have. If you know how ways to make these things in maya, tell me. |

You've missed the point boyo.Really, look again, how's the ammo going to get into the chamber? |

Bullpups are way to over engineered for my tastes in firearms, siavash1989 look up how a gun actualy works and then think about it for a little while. Plus its a sniper's rifle why would i want a shotgun or a grenade launcher on it? That would degrade the accuracy, and upset the harmonics of the barrel.Anything that touches the barrel affect the harmonics of the barrel, Thus the weapon must be sighted in to take these affects into account. and like shadowbump pointed out, how the in the crap would that work? the butt stock being the Clip? Thats just a silly idea. |

Nice stuff. So its a full auto sniper rifle? |

No its not full auto, semi only. Caliber 7.7x58mm Steel jacketed lead core ammo. Pretty simple, its got a slower rate of fire than the rest of the rifles, and the power is a little bit greater than that of the ranger rifle. Im gonna defintely rework the rear stock. |
