heres a simple weapon idea i have

Smoke Bombs

small smoke bombs that ativate when they hit something useful for puting up large smoke screens or filling the flag room with smoke to steal the flag, or droping it on the ground to flee ninja style start with 5 can hold up to 10

That is a great idea for online playing, bots can use their XYZ vision to kick your ass inside the smoke though. :P

That's just because the bots just need LOS to your location in the game world in order to see you. they don't see with an actual eye, their code just checks for LOS to a target, so something non-solid can't block them. Might be some way to code the smoke particles as LOS blocking, though.

But anyways, yes, I like the idea. Smoke nades are good. And flashbangs. And the pineapple needs to actually throw out fragments. And they need an explosive nade WITHOUT fragments as well, and I could probably come up with a bajillion other things. Okay, done with the sarcasm.

bots always know where u are.. they only engage in LOS tho..

maybe its possible.. i hope.. i dunno if it works in CS:S... DC should know about this one..

it only works in CSS cause they make the bots really only know where you are if they see you, its like the bots in CSS have real eyes.

I would love these. I usually just play bot mode myself, Though how hard would it be to code in the smoke as disrupting LOS? I can check put i think particle effects disrupt LOS normally. Which would cause the bots to either go around it, or act like you don't exist, either way making the smoke bombs work the way their supose to.

Anyways, I love this idea. Smoke bombs, even at the base level, have such an appealing asthetic affect.

It is possible... If we make BW bots, we can add a feature that prevents them seeing through smoke.
We can't really put anything in now that would block LOS checks and not bullets, but if we expanded the bots a bits, we could spawn a special actor that they couldn't see past or into... Then we put one of those AI sight blocking acotrs down when a smoker goes off...
Translation: It will be hard, but possible... It would also only work when using the BW bot, which would be most of the time. Just not if some other mod is using its own bot...

Hm, maybe the smoke code could also be used for cloaking / camouflage. Maybe some kind of stealth armor (or even vehicle) or a portable holo projector that sort of works like the stealth combo, turning you into a box or rock or whatever. Only this time it would actually work with bots.

How about if when the user deploys the smoke grenade it momentarily makes the user invincable(godmode) while inside the smoke, so any hits would not harm you?

Nah, that'd be weird, you know there is someone in the smoke cloud but he/she is invincible to your weapons.

My idea was to get around the problem of the bot's being able to see you in the smoke screen and kill you anyways

Yes, but the bot should be able to damage you when you're inside the smoke. Sometimes you are witnessed walking into it, then the bot will know you are there so it sprays bullets into the smoke cloud.

It is better to make the smoke as a fake blocking volume, it should be possible.

You might wanna take a look a the invisible raptor's advanced coak code. The creator claims it works on bots, mabe the projectile of the smoke nade could be made a timed actor that applies this invisibility to everyone in the smoke's radius.

Not a bad idea, but I'm not a coder so I have no idea if this is even possible. I guess we could probably contact the author of that mod and simply ask him what he did.

One idea is to just create a bot mutator to make all bots "BW" bots. That way you wouldn't have to actually to create individual coded bots.

Also i'm not sure how they did it, but Frag ops had there smoke granades working out rather well, though they ran there own bots.

Custom bots would be a lot of work, but I guess that would be the best since BW's gameplay is extremely different from default UT2004's.

You could always just email the Frag-Ops guys for the smoke grenade and pertinent AI code. I know they're helpful people.
