I need design ideas for this thing. It is a warhammer with an electric charge going over it. I'd like the charge to use up ammo, though the ammo recharges.

When the weapon is used with the charge turned off, it'd offer less damage and less knockback.

So anyways, I got the basic concept of it down, but I have no clue what it should look like.

I'll try and explain the choices to you.

High Tech- There would be wiring, capacitors, switches, all sorts of stuff on it. Think something like the Lightning Gun, only on a hammer.

Steam Punk- Lots of copper, brass, bronze, dials, steam, and gears. Might seem odd for a this kinf of weapon, but I got some ideas.

Gothic- Dark looking, (Norse) runes inscribed on it, probably would work through magical properties, looks like a real warhammer, but more stylized.

Fantasy- Looks like something out of Oblivion or [Insert other Fantasy RPG Game]. Could probably be silver, with runes, but not quite as dark looking and likely more magical looking.

Legendary- Make it look like the actual Hammer of Thor?

Retro-Future-

Perhaps old-fashioned dials and gauges? Retro future? 1930s art deco?

Other- Please explain in post if you have another idea.

By the way, for something to expect, those themes up there are probably going to be what most of my other weapons will fall under too.

I'd like to see a nice high tech one with stainless steel and fuel efficient generators. :P

What would you classify the Halo 3 Gravity Hammer as? That one looks pretty neat as well.

The idea sounds like a lot of fun though. I loved using the Junk Wars sledge hammer and I'll probably love using this.

hmm... I'm pretty split,I'd normally pick high tech to keep with most of the theme(and keep that magic hoo-haa outa my system, and BW),but that steampunk version sounds incredibly intriguing.

I really wouldn't care for steampunk, but since it is up there I can't help but to think you have a great concept under the hood, and I'd hate to see it wasted.

Both gothic and legendary sound good to me.

Ohhh.... so you don't want no magic hoo-haa, ShadowDump?

Heh heh... sucks to be you. :p

I'm the opposite; interested in magic hoo-haa. It may not always be the best solution, but this is Thor's hammer we are talking about, magic is unavoidable without killing the base idea. ;)

Well, this couldn't be the actual Hammer of Thor, because if that was the case, we'd only be able to have one at any time in a game, plus, as far as I knew, was only useable by Thor himself. This would be more along the lines of either a version made for mortals to use, or a weapon of the chosen priests of Thor (or equivelent, not too privy on Norse religion), or a weapon forged by man and blessed by a powerful being/enchanted by skilled Priests.

Assuming we go with the magical origin, of course.

Which I hope we do. Doesn't have to be a "realistically magical" version of the hammer, just the idea of Thor's hammer made usable in a BW match, more or less. But of course you could write some really cool background story about it.

Me write the story? I think you've mistaken me for someone that can write. :p

Maybe it is from Krome?

Well, then I dunno who could write a story.
The typical description works too of course but doesn't have as much of an impact imo.

Pretty sure this won't be from Krome...

But I'm sure someone out there would be willing to write out a story for it. Theres gotta be some skilled writers out there.

You're good.

Ah well. Anyone else?

When you write story stuff do you have to include coding?

I could write it if it turns out to be a work of technology not mystical crap(might be able to do magic but nah...)

It helps to be interested in the subject you are writing about.
And no, writing a story does not involve coding. Though the implementation of the text into the weapon code does.

Decidedly high-tech, but old-looking. Glowy bits!

Perhaps old-fashioned dials and gauges? Retro future? 1930s art deco?

Wow, that actually sounds pretty cool. I'll see if I an add that to my list of poll options. Definitely sounds like another theme I'd be using for my weapons, if not for this.

You mean like the Gravity Gun in HL2? It looks high tech and worn out at the same time.

It looks plain hi-tech to me, despite the signs of aging.

I concur on the idea for the Retro-future. It'd probably look best like that. I still wonder how that would look...

Personally, I don't really know either, but at least I will get a theme to use as a better base and direction, depending on whatever I end up going with.

Post subject:  Re: Mjolnir Warhammer Questions

Perhaps to clarify on my suggestion:

I don't simply mean "High-tech thing showing signs of age". I meant "High-tech thing displaying design elements or aesthetics popular that look like the product of a bygone era".

Think something like the Plymouth Prowler, only not canceled. Or a Transformer that disguises itself as a Model T or single-seat WWII fighter plane.

I wrote about 18 ideas! 18 FREAKING IDEAS! Maybe of varying length, but still. That's just mean you forgot me, Xav....

*Bashes him with his own Mjolnir*

If I have time I may write for it when it is done.

Oh, ok. Well yeah, you can do writing then, fine by me. But its not like I forgot about you, we had this closed up to only a few people so we could test things and get things set up first.

I think I made a thread for it in the Requests forum. If you like, check that out, think I might have some things for you to do already.
