The Multi-Stage Rifle is a Super Weapon class weapon that consists of a bolt-action rifle that does about half the damage of R98 shot. The gist of the weapon would come from the fact that it can be dual wielded, and that pressing the Weapon Special button while doing so, would assimilate the weapon it's being dual wielded with, and grant the MSR an aditional feature which depends on the kind of weapon being assimilated.
With only official BWs in mind, something like:
-Assimilating an SMG would enable it to rapid fire.
-Assimilating a D49 would give it the same damage as the R98.
-Assimilating a pistol with a laser pointer, would give it a pointer as well.
-Assimilating a Skrith Blaster would give you regenerative ammo.
Then you could pick one of the following underbarrel atachments:
-A shotgun from the Wilson.
-A grenade launcher from the Bort.
-A flasher from the AM67.

Ideally, it would use multiple models, starting off as plain bolt action rifle (something like a cross between the Shock Rifle from UT3 and the Redwood 6000) and then getting progressively bigger and spawning atachments.
But opcionally, it could start off already using a fully upgraded model, but with textures that give it a old damaged look, and in theory assimilating other weapons would repair it, and grant it access its various features.

Well, its an interesting idea. But I find it hard to believe this would at any point look like a normal bolt action rifle.

Also sounds like a nightmare to code. However, the gun looking like its changing wouldn't necessarily be too difficult, just slap on static meshes of the new doodads like how you do muzzle flashes, should work in theory.

But for me to take this idea as serious in any way, you gotta give a bit of back story, some better visuals. Because right now all I can see is the BW guy cramming pistols down the receiver of a bolt action rifle. :P

I prefer a weapon wich tranforms itself second the selected modes and have said functions, I think that would be easier than making a weapon with assimilation.

I'll try to doodle something presentable and write a little backstory for the weapon then. You're right about the bolt action. Strange design choice for whoever ends up making this thing, considering the technology they have available :lol: .But the main idea is the time it takes between shots.
I suppose it could instead have to open ports on the sides to let some steam out between shots. :think:

Blade sword, the focus of the weapon is that it grows ,gaining new abillities. I discribe the assimilation system this way, because it's how I find it ideal. Though it could work diferently...
Perhaps with a bar, like the one on the staves. Killing someone with the weapon would make them drop items that increase the bar, which would change something about the gun every time it's filled.

Actually, a charge bar would be cool. Whenever you have the weapon out and you pick up a weapon, it goes directly to the charge bar. When it fills, the weapon gets an upgrade, based on how you fight (using info gathered for evolution loadout). Or something like that.

Concept for the MSR in it's first form, edited from a UT3 shock rifle and parts from this site http://pimpmygun.doctornoob.com/ :

E-73 M.S.R. Multi Stage Rifle

Manufacturer: Frontier Tech

Primary- 5.56×45mm (before upgrade) / 7.62×51mm Shot (after upgrade)

Alt- Underbarrel atachment

Special- Laser Sight

Firemodes- Single shot with cooldown(before upgrade) / Semi Auto (after upgrade)
3 round burst
Full Auto

Techniques:
-A deceitful super weapon. You might think you've wasted your time, as you move out of your way to get an All Mighty Redeemer, hoping it
will help you turn the tide of battle, and find nothing, except an average looking rifle, that can't shoot a single bullet without
needing a second or two to cool down. But stick with it for a while, and your opinion might change, as does the gun itself.
As you pick up the fallen weapons of your hard earned kills, you start filling up a bar, and once it's filled, the weapon is bestowed an
upgrade, like a damage boost, a regenerating ammo supply , new fire modes and even new atachments.

Background:
-Developed by Frontier Tech with commandos and guerrilas in mind, the MSR is a great weapon to take behind enemy lines. The nanomachines present in the MSR are able to deconstruct other weapons, and use their matter to alter its structure, performing maintenance and creating new parts with varying functions, so the fear of your gun jamming with no back up around, or the need to know how to operate enemy weapons, which may not even be usable by humans, is swiftly eliminated. Despite such promise, the weapon is still a prototype, as it is kept from full production by hungry nanomachines eating the weapon itself and bad optimization of the deconstruction process, which at times leads to the need to consume over 10 JL-21's to form a simple laser sight.

EDIT: Updated the guns pic.

The barrel cover should appear when the gun gets its selective-fire function;
The stock should appear when it gets its damage upgrade (damage goes up, but recoil stays the same);
The blue parts turn purple with the regenerative ammo upgrade (you can still reload, but if you don't, the nano-machines gradually refill the clip);
The underbarrel atachment appears when you.......uuuuh......get an underbarrel atachment...I guess...
