I didn't see a topic that allowed for just casual weapon concept discussions...like peoples putting their concepts there then have a little bit a of a serious talk on how it'd be overpowered or useless or just straight up dumb...

Now don't get me wrong

This is NOT a request thread

Its here to have people ask for others' opinions on their concepts and whatnot....gun centered idle talk one could say ?

And if nobody minds me I'll give a bit of an opener here
Its pretty much the biggest "what if" I had for the past while but
What if you weaponized a fighter plane's turbine ?

I'd imagine it would be like a photon cannon but with a much shorter range and it would set people on fire...pretty much a shoulder mounted fire beam

But then it IS a fighter jet's engine so something about it should be themed around that, its then I had the silliest idea ever...

Imagine that the gun would have a secondary that would actually work like a proper jetpack as in the gun would start to actually propel its user so hard it would make the guy holding it litterally fly ?

As stupid as this sounds I kinda feel it would be both absolutely hilarious AND a little bit overpowered too since it counters the short range so well...

What would you think ?

in the same way:
What about a weapon that extremly came hot as we use it? so hot that need a cooling system to protect the user from heat like a.....turbine.
the more you fire it, faster the turbine ventilate and propel the user. in this case no need of secondary and
would be more fair: if you want to go "this is Sparta!" firing all the way , your aim will get ruined and you'll become
incontrolable.

why your idea brings me the "pierced RX22 fuel tank " image?

Yeah....kinda like that but with a controllable axis on the propulsion maybe ?

Another thing I was thinking about was deployable cover...like a riot shield with maybe...I dunno...like chainsaws built on the surface of it ?

Or maybe with built in guns, and when you'd deploy it it would make a full fledged turret with wider cover for its user...like having a massive shield stuck in the ground with guns poking out of it...now obviously something like that would weight a TON...like definitively make you BFG tier of slow on the ground but it would still block light weapons' bullets, like assault rifles and whatnot....and after that maybe have the X-81 be capable of actually hitting through it ? or make it incapable of stopping explosives ?

Wich reminds me do we have a drill melee weapon ? like an industrial driller one can jam down some poor sod's throat ?

Yeah but...

The thing is: the "Ideas Section" feels more or less like a request section...wich is pretty much seen as the incarnation of satan in this forum and most peoples will (most likely) completely ignore it...

Starting a thread about just discussing weapon concepts there is like saying

"let me start a thread where nobody even cares to look at all"

Nice topic man, I hope this will be filled with sweet ideas.

Come to think of it I've also been thinking about what BW would be like if it had a more diverse melee side to it. Here's a number of things I'd find interesting.

1. Being able to dual wield melee weapons (with the exception of the Skrith blades, since they're already dual). I like the idea of going apeshit with dual katana's, X4 knives etc.

2. Just as discussed above, riot shields, and a diverse selection of those too. A shield with a spike, a shield with a muzzle hole, I could see that stuff work. You could either wield a melee weapon or gun with it, and with the added bulletproof factor it could make for an interesting new approach to how the BW game is played.

3. The ability to wield a dual wieldable gun with a (small) melee weapon. Knife in one hand for up close enemies and an AM assault pistol in the other? Cool beans.

Oh, and hey everyone, been away for a while hehe :P

This topic has been moved. It neither is discussion of a BW mod or an actual mod itself. I can move it to Chit Chat if desired, but this is clearly discussing weapon ideas, which conveniently has its own forum. A lack of discussion in any category is due to the low traffic of this forum.

a quick realisation more than anything but there isn't a single pile-bunker weapon out there...like: at all...

EDIT: Here's an idea no one seems to have thought of

How about black hole grenade that would spawn thoses Karma Vortex that may or may not spawn when both Nova and Dark stars are used ?

Bit of a murder-all but it feels like a waste of ressources to not use it...

Melee weapons that can unlock elemental powers by being used enough:

Weapon (element) - abbilities earned by use

War Hammer(Earth) - besides bashing people, hitting the ground with it will cause all players within the sphere of effect to shake, throwing off their aim; secondary fire hits the ground in front of the player, making rocky spikes jut out in a straight line.

Halberd (Fire) - halberd hits set impact point on fire; secondary twirls the halberd in front of the player, creating a flame shield that destroys enemy projectiles.

Dagger (Wind) - the user can either blink a few meters ahead to close in on a target (or help in parkour) or use a gust of wind to repel nearby players.

I'm missing a water one, but I can't think of anything water-related that would fit the game :P
(Maybe something like the Nightshade cube from UT3, or creating whirlpools that work like the Engineer's teleporters in TF2)

EDIT: I think that Karma Vortex Grenade would be a great idea :handgestures-thumbupright:

what about "gadget" devices:

- "thermal" glasses using the same principle of the FSSG-50 scope maybe with a limited battery
like that invisible people can be located for a short time

- some kind of lure based on a beacon, you activate and throw it like the laser mine and it display a "hologram" of a player

- a proximity sound sticky grenade: instead of explode it plays footstep sound during several seconds when someone activate it. like that people can think someone is near.
but the grenade should to be invisible to maximize the effect.

Call me a tf2 fanboy but how come we don't have deployable miniguns that act as automated sentry guns ?

That or a JAMR cannon that would act like a recoiless rifle that could be deployed and not be a single shot weapon ?

Hey guys...

So I was watching some video on youtube about a Command and Conquer Generals mod
And it had so good music that I looked it up to listen to it again

And while listening the mod came back to mind and in it was featured a fairly ridiculous concept where a tank had two sets 350mm Gatling mounted cannons...I think the tank was named Guan Yu or something...

And then I thought to myself

"What if there was a quad barreled shoulder mounted JAMR cannon ?"

Now of course it would kick so freaking hard it would send you flying across the map...

But I gotta admit I'm intrigued...

If the weapon have a sufficient recoil compensation and probably use recoilless shells or some kind of countermass with a good recoil buffer and be a smaller caliber you may have a somewhat plausible weapon.

Also, one could make it so it can only be fired as a turret mode that prevents any sort of movement at all. Like stabbing metal into the ground so you can't move type of thing.

So...I was thinking about the whole "no delicious drill weapons" and then I had an idea

What about a melee weapon that would basically be two wide drills connected together by the same engine block much like a dagger sized staff with a drill at each extremity

The primary fire would be a fast melee swing

Secondary would be a slower thrust

and the secondary 2 would change the way the weapon is held

in its first position the weapon would be held like a sort of short sword, when in this position the weapon would have a sort of "autoblock" feature that would deflect melee attacks linked to a bar, when bar is full the weapon would autoblock a attack would drain the bar to half capacity, however thrusting with the weapon in this postion although it would do a lot more damage than a swing would completely deplete the bar

in its second position the weapon would be held like a javelin and it would change a couple of things on it

- Melee swings are replaced with faster stabs wich do slightly less damage than a proper thrust but is much faster

- The autoblock feature is disabled

- The secondary allows the user to rev up the engine of the drills to then throw the weapon like a javelin, upon impact the drill will "stick" to the target and start to chew away at him, the longer the engine revs up the longer the drill damages its target over time before running out and falling off the target, at wich point anybody could pick it up

And I'm kinda thinking it would be badass if you could dual wield that...Because right now there's no "real" dual wielded melee weapons...
