Not bad at all for first maps! Too bad they ain't DM, I'm not really into this vehicle stuff. But nice job nonetheless. :)

Very nice. As RedS pointed out, they ain't DM, which is all i ever play now, since vehicle combat is 'gay' in UT2k4 way to arcade like.

You know, you could just copy the maps and add DM- to the front instead of ONS- or VCTF-. Thats basically all I do for all maps I play. ;)

By the way, they look really nice! Can't wait to download them. :)

My favorite DM map has to be my converted version of JB-SavoIsland-Gold to a DM variant. Unfortunately, I kinda messed up converting it a little more, and I have to do it over again.

yeah but you still have the vehicles in the map.

They won't show up unless you enable something like the CarLauncher or other mutator that allows vehicles in death match games, I think.

Yeah, either that or type "open {exact mapname}" after having started up a DM map... However, more often than not you get pretty crap gameplay because these maps weren't made with DM in mind. Things like bot pathing, layout, and weapon placement are all wrong. For example, in converted CTF and DOM maps bots will 'capture' and 'guard' non-existing flag bases / control points, instead of running all over the place. And ONS maps without vehicles are simply to large, things slow down to a crawl. So basically if you want a decent DM, you need a dedicated DM map.

Cool! If you guys can become as good at mapping as you are at coding and modeling (etc.), I'll sponsor a map for sure. ;)

I can't wait to see the DM map.

I tried the ONS map (don't like VCTF much) and loved it, great flow and everything, nice work.

I'm not an ONS or vCTF player, but for first maps those look beeeeeautiful. Good job.

Well someone posted this comment for your VCTF map BE

"Well, I'm not a vCTF player so I don't have a full idea of what a good vCTF map looks like, but I doubt this is it. Its visuals are good enough, although there are certainly problems, but the gameplay isn't good. There's really only one route to the flag and it's hard not to get killed on the way there as a result. No bot ever uses the islands (even if it spawns there it runs back to the mainland) and I only used them to get a faster vehicle. I guess if you somehow managed to get the flag away from the base the islands would be the safest way to go but it's all pretty open so and it would be easy to catch up.
All in all, an interesting attempt but lacking in gameplay. More planning should be involved next time in that respect."

Seems that he thinks you need more routes to get to the flag.

And here he is again with his review of your ONS map.

"There are two absolutely useless nodes, the playercount is too low, there are way too many vehicles at every node, the orange is slightly ugly, and even if you ignore the two extraneous nodes, the setup is not great. Good try though, and the visuals are fairly good. Bots play reasonably well, but it takes too long to get from one node to another, especially in a tank. Worth a try for ONS fans, but it won't be a favorite."

There isn't any pleasing this guy is there.

Ye that gut his name is IceCreamYou hes really critical of my maps but im thrilled that you guys think there cool.

I was aware of the problems he talked about but with my DM map that you will see i think its almost perfect, no bugs or anything like that it will come down to prefrence.

ya, then again, i'm guessing these maps are more for BW then the Ut2k4 weapons? If so then that most likely is why he doesn't like it, since the weapons change the flow and all.

btw, check out the new DM map :)

I hate fanboy-talk like yours right there.
The reviewer wrote reasons for the points he gave, and they seem valid too. First map is never top-of-the-line, BE just needs to practice and improve. In no time he'll be remembered in the UT200x community as a great mapper.

yeah but as BE just reasured me with is that the maps are MADE for Ballistic Weapons, so BW flow, they weren't made for UT2k4 weapons in mind, and i'll bet a hundred dollars that that IceCreamYou played with the UT2k4 weapons. So of course it'd feel weird to him, you'd be surpirised at how much gameplay changes with the introduction of totally new weapons.

Too many vehicles still makes it irritatingly hard to get a node fully built.

Post subject:  BE Releases

yeah, he did make some good points, but most were because he wasn't using the right weapons.

If the map is meant for a certain mod, BE shouldn't release it as a map for default gameplay, he should keep it inside a map pack bundled with BW.
