Checked out the screenshots, and those maps sure look promising! Nice work! B)

Some random thoughts...

1) Will DM-Beach and ONS-Limbo have some underground spaces like tunnels / bunkers etc.? Limbo would be perfect for extensive cave systems, and Beach could have a nice underground bunker complex (maybe it already does, lol) that even connects to some of the little islands. Adds a whole new layer of tactical gameplay, and can make a map considerably bigger without ruining flow or FPS too much.

2) I'd love to see some really big (T)DM maps that can easily support, say, 12-20 players without feeling crowded.

3) Themes: (lava) caves with lots of tunnels, chambers, and other spaces would be lovely, as would a big Urban map with good FPS. Something like Zeitkind or DarkCity, only with a bit (but not too much) more detail.

4) I hope there will be plenty of interactive stuff like exploding barrels, splintering crates, breaking glass (that does real damage!), weird & wonderful traps, damage related flooding, deadly lava, release of toxic goo and gases, pools full of killer piranhas etc. etc. Afaik UT2K4 has actually fewer interactive maps that UT99, and that's just... wrong.

5) DM maps with one or two integrated vehicles could be interesting. Some cars, maybe even a tank as a kind of superweapon alternative. Of course this would only work on larger maps...

I would love an urban map. I think Stalingrad in the game Painkiller looks amazing. It is called Leningrad for some strange reason in the game.
:S

But look for pictures of the level and you'll see what I mean, it is a city in ruins. Lots of hiding spots for cover. And goliaths could be placed for fun.

yeah we really need some fun urban distroyed city maps that are both ONS (maybe DM) and CTF!!

Also i think we need some maps sorta like DM-Beach but set in some kind of mountain/grass-like terrian that has many bunkers where you could deploy machine guns (like in Day of Defeat Source or Calld of Duty United Offensive) and create surpressing fire on enemies while waiting for bot backup to flank the enemy na take them out!!

This deployable machine gun would have to be created by RuneStorm but i'm sure it would rock, but in all gametypes/mut menus for Ballistic Weapons (except BW Arena) you'll have an option where to have it in the map or not cause it would suck in a DM match (sometimes)!! but if you set it to spawn in the map it WILL spawn in!!

Speaking of ONS maps, i've been thinking that maybe the special fire for the Skirth Energy Rifle should be a Link gun like alt fire that heals vehicles and nodes so that the gameplay in ONS maps while running Ballistic Weapons doesn't slow down while you wait for a power node to get to full health!!

unfortunately those 2 maps dont have underground:S

but, you have some cool ideas here; ruined cities, and those interactive map objects sound especially promisingB) big DM maps, caves and all.. definetly worth checking out!! we have a smaller bro working on maps now 2, so we see wot he can do:)

the deoployable machine gun wouldn't be an interactive object it wouyld be like any other gun but it can't be fire unless its deployed, and can only be deployed on the ground or on window legeds so that you can create cover fire!

Post subject:  The maps

Why not make it interactive in a way that you press use key when up-close to it so you can fire? Of course you need to deploy it first.

Author:  Mr.UglyPants [ Sun Apr 23, 2006 1:52 am ]
Post subject:  The maps

thats what i mean!!

Namely after the deployable machine has been deployed you press the use key to use and fire the gun, the machine gun can piviot to the left and right a but not a full 90 degrees to either side and it can also go up and down like-wise it can't shoot at a 90 degree angle up or down, it has enough pivoting movement so you don't feel like a sitting duct! the gun would be best used from windows or in narrow hallways with someone covering your back because you WON'T be able to see who is behind you!! than when you want to move the gun to a new place you would use the special function key to pick up the gun than when you want to deploy it you would have to find a suitable place than use the special function key to deploy, than KILL! (would also have ironshights!)

that deployable MG sounds like the minigun for the next version!!

Post subject:  The maps

I rather want a handheld minigun, or both deployable and handheld.
B)

Post subject:  The maps

its deployable becuase it has a huge amount of reciol, the Machine gun is sort-of a 50cal or 40 cal!

Author:  ShadowBlade [ Mon Apr 24, 2006 10:35 am ]
Post subject:  The maps

you'll probably be able to fire the minigun in hand, just dont expect it to be accurate:) such things cannot be infantry weapons in real life, because of insance recoil force.. but deployable, it will be very effectiveB)

Post subject:  The maps

There are handheld miniguns out there, but they are extremely heavy. I think accuracy wouldn't be a problem, rather being able to run around with it.

My cousin is in the U.S. marines, and he is in the helicopter type division. He says that the guuns on the choppers...well...you dont even have to aim...just rends people limb from limb. Sorry if I disturbed anyone with that, but it's true.

Maybe, after some kind of war or biotech incident, the city was abandoned (or maybe everyone just died on the spot, and some of their bones are still visible), and is now slowly being reclaimed by the sea...

Maybe there's a mall or office complex, which still has plenty of glass that can be shot out, and an old gas station that can be blown up real good if you hit the right spot...

Hm, an abandoned museum with lots of (dinosaur, mammoth etc.) skeletons as either a stand-alone DM map or as part of something bigger.

On a more general note, a truly kick-ass, realistic city map definitely needs stuff like interconneced sewers and cellars, alleys, buildings that you can go into, and bridges & overpasses for even more crazy z-axis action! But of course you already knew that... ;)

Don't give them too many ideas, if I know them they would probably hide some nasty meat eating creature in all that water B)

I hope not, since the creature would win every DM match. :S

 @ Dracone.

This brings up an idea, Ballistic Invasion monsters. It has been discussed slightly, but who know what they will come up with.

But I think they need to gather pace to get the mod to it's full potential, because there are now actual gameplay videos from UT2007 on Atari's UT2004 forums.

LOL!! Actually, some creature action could really spice things up. Remember the Unreal biter fish? That sort of thing... But, say, a prowling monster squid would be cool too, of course!

Well, if I were them I'd make this a really kick-ass weapon mod with a few extras like maps and vehicles thrown in for good measure, and save the really fancy TC stuff for UT2K7. That's, like, the future, man... If the guns etc. already look this good on ye olde 2.5 engine, imagine how good they'll look on 3.0! I'm drooling already... :P

Theorotically they can start modelling for UT2007. ;)

Post subject:  The maps

looks like we'll start making our models in both ut2k7 and 2k4 quality from here on out.. for our vehicles and weapons..

invasion monster are definetly on my wish-list.. i'm learning zbrush right now http://www.pixologic.com and i wanna start making some wicked creatures!!B)

we really wanna port BW into 2k7 as well.. and we still got our bigger projects to do;)

I think the weapon models/skins look good enough for UT2007. Maybe you can add extra polygons and detail for future content.

Perhaps, for all the invasion monster ideas, reveal the mysterious skrith that we have never ever even seen? Their weapons rock though. ;)

It would be really cool if RS made a AS map that looked sorta like omaha beach (just watch Saving Private Ryan or buy BF1942), it would be that the attackers spawn from a couple (yes a couple) distroyed ships near the beach, the attackers would have to run up the heavily forified beaches up to the top of the mountain (hill maybe?) and far into the defenses to distroy the Defending team command post!! Their would be a wall of (unscaleable) rock that over looks the beach and their would be bunkers with at least 2 or 3 (RS made) machine gun turrets to attack the attackers! also their wouldm
t be much cover for the attackers to use when storming the beaches!

sorry people.. but u not gonna see a skrith for a while.. besides the fact that we havnt finalized its look.. it would ruin its glorious reputation.. u will probably have to wait a while.. u may see Cryon or Krao tho:evil:
