I would really love to see a very cool BW map with trenches and such, like in CoD2 multiplayer maps. With the right placement of bunkers and coverpoints, you can make a very interresting map. Such as a Bunker overseeing a very annoying camp spot, where you can take down those enemies hiding there with ease, but while in the bunker, you must watch your sides, because you could be shot from everywhere. Best thing to have is that EVERY offensive spot you can sit in cover and shoot from should be overseen by another. Defensive spots (places where you are hidden from most battlefield, but you can defend an important entrance to cover your teammates.) shouldn't be overseen most times. And if an offensive spot is great to use, it should be hard to reach, such as running trough half the open field to reach it. Some land mines in the middle open field would be fun too, like the ones in CTF-Grassyknoll. A super shield or health or double damage in the middle of the open field, so it will be trouble reaching it. I would try to map it myself but I'm rather busy with other maps. I think this is a great idea. |

I don't think it'll really work with things like the Railgun and grenades. And the G5 mortar. |

Obviously you can just exclude those guns. Or make a G5 that can't lock on. Or both and keep the remaining G5. |

Thanks Wup! Need to see the map yet, but grenades and the G5's mortar would seem to make a really good weapon choice in trenches, particularly gas grenades. |

ONS-UP-Gallipoli1915 Inspired by WWI. Landmines in the middle too. No vehicles. I tried it myself, though bots don't really go do the whole trench thing and charge right ahead. I haven't found a map with more realistic trenches though. No trench system leading up to the main "frontline" trenches that oversee a no-man's land covered with with barbed wire and defended by machine gun nests. Although, I'm not sure if real trench warfare could really be done in a game, considering it's all "sit in trench, , mow them down when they do attack, attack when they retreat, get mowed down and have to retreat yourself, mow down their counter-attack, die from trench foot, ad nauseam". It's a real bloody example of battlefield tactics lagging behind the weapon technology of the time. |

I might go try my own hand at trench warfare, but it'd be pretty hard to do where it feel semi-realistic, and not just all 90 degree angles for the trenches (using terrain to let you do Visibility tool to have the trench fit in the terrain, but only squares, not triangles). I'll try my hand with this, but I'm not making it look pretty or anything. Take me some time to mapout before I start to actuall make the map too, unless someone wants to come up with a trench shaping that only uses 45 and 90 degree angles (not too many 45s though please). I'll decide which to create in the end though. |

Yeah If you grab that VCTf version you'll wanna remove all the Tanks..they are completely useless your planning a Dm style then you shouldn't have to worry about it..But Its designed for Team Based play so I'm not sure Dm would work that good on it. |

easiest way to do so is to use the worm motorpool mutator with the map, and set all the slots to 'no vehicle". I recommend VCTF-Blitz. it has a central, no man's land area, overlooked by two bunkers/trench/tower networks. the no mans land is bounded by ridges, with outer paths mainly meant for the vehicles beyond them. It also comes with a scorpion variant using the leviathan missile turret built into the map. That's the only thing that is arguably an annoyance about it, as setting all the vehicles to "no vehicle" in a mutator does not remove that. You can get it at ut2004files, but they didn't post any good screenshots, so I'm putting an alternate link with better pictures. http://www.utzone.de/include.php?path=c ... entid=5439 I have long looked for decent trench warfare, bunker warfare, and more military themed maps. There are only a few ones worth talking about. ONS-Gallipoli is the most notable one. CTF-Warzone-x is a really old 2k3 warzone / semi-trench map, but either I have a bad copy or it calls a resource that 2k4 doesn't like, because it tends to crash for me when I load it now. If anyone has any luch with it, let me know. http://unrealtournament2004.filefront.c ... oneX;21737 |
