I made this gun, and it has hands rigged to bones.
Everything on the gun moves, except for the hands.
I imported it into Ued and i see the hand bones moving, but not the hand itself.
How can i fix this?
I use 3dsmax if that helps any.

Thats kinda odd. I don't have much experience with 3ds, unfortunately, but th ehads have the skin weights applied? Maybe there was an import problem with the mesh?

I'm having quite the time imagining this...

stretchy skin?

The hands remain static, un moving. But their bones move. Its like the hand became unattached to teh bones.

like zer0 said in RS forums, I also think that maybe the bones aren't attached to the hand mesh, or an error during export.

Well, they seem to be rigged properly in 3ds, they move the hand and everything there, but not in Ued.

I use ActorX to export the files, maybe there is something better to use?

I imagine there's alternatives out there, but from my understanding, ActorX was pretty much the industry standard. Interesting that it does in fact work right in 3DS, though.

Did you maybe Rigid Bind the hands on accident instead of Smooth Binding it?

Maybe you can show us a pic of your bones so I can say you what is wrong.
On my pistol I needed 2 weeks to figure it out how it works

Can you further explain this rigid/smooth binding captain?

Sorry for not replying earlier, but while I can't tell you the more intricate details of rigid binding and smooth binding, I know that UT2004 doesn't support rigid binding. I don't actually know if 3DS Max has this or uses those terms, but it could be a reason why the hand isn't animated properly in UT2004.

Ok, i killed the problem, fixed the hands. Turns out its just a simple matter of turning on/off a few export options in the Actor X exporter.
For things with hands: Turn on "All skin"
For hands + separate parts: Turn on "All Texture" and "all skin"
