After having a few lighting issues, I decided to take a look at some of the models for Ballistic. When I looked, I saw that almost all of the models contain so-called "loose parts", including overlapping objects. So far I've been attaching every part of my models to each other to create one single continuous mesh. Which is better practice? Edit: I've just been looking up the lighting effect. Am I right in thinking the flat, solid lighting on a surface is made by disconnecting the surface from other surfaces, eliminating the need for having complex geometry and making linking things together pointless? That would speed my modelling up to no end! |

Xavious should know about this, his models don't have any lighting issues AFAIK. |

Hi Well firstly, you need to use smoothing groups in the right situations Making your model all attached is not required in any circumstance that i can think of, as long as it's all exported as one object, all the elements don't need to be welded together to form a continuous piece |

Thanks, ShadowBlade. I looked up smoothing groups for Blender, and it appears that Blender's way of doing this is to use edge splitting. Good to know I can be less painstaking about attaching things. |
