I suggest a few options to be ticked on or off, and would like to know which people like and dislike. => Leave out the crazy sparkles when bullets hit metal without sacrificing any other eye candy; it looks silly to me. It's okay for the railgun and Skrith guns, I guess... => Have an option for no SMG tracers with or without silencer; it kinda bugs me that a silencer changes this. To prevent laming, make it client-side and don't have an all-tracers option. => Have the xhair move instead of growing and shrinking, not showing exactly where fire will go like the pistol's laser but at least giving a better idea than the current system. => Can crouch and walk toggles be implemented instead of hold? I'd looove that. If I can do it just by editing my .ini, let me know! => Use different controls for grenades; for example, cookoff is secondary function and special/reload toggles underhand/overhand. => Save preferences for firemode, silencer on/off, laser sight, mounted/unmounted, etc. in a little .ini file. |

I have to agree with every tip there. I did mention the first one awhile ago, the sparks are too much like what you'd see in consoles platform games. It would be better to get more quick and sharper sparks and a more realistic hit-effect. What no game has done right is exactly that, hit effects for thick metallic surfaces. |

Actually I really like the crazy sparxx. Realism is nice n all, but things got to look good too, and reduced sparks would be teh lame (like UT's pathetic little AR sparks, bleh!). If hit fx are castrated like the tracers were, they should definitely remain as a menu option. To keep things simple, enhanced tracers and hit fx etc. could be a single config option.
Oh, and I don't have a problem with the current crosshairs, either. They look great and work just fine imo. But to each his own... ![]() Post edited by: Redshift, at: 2006/05/05 19:12 |

You don't need crazy sparks, the only thing bugging me is that the current ones look like yellow rubberballs. ry:

ok.. sorry all but the metal effects stay.. i really HATE the UT2k4 effects:angry: we cant make options for very little thing, besides we like it looking like this.. it makes it look like the shots might actually hurt:laugh: and the silencer stays as is as well.. it would be very unfair if the tracers apperaed on some PC's only.. silencer is weaker than when silencer is off.. as for the other things.. they sound ok.. toggleable walking and crouching, dunno bout the crosshair moving tho.. if it bugs you to much, just adjust the crosshair recoil option..

Dammit, I went for a drink and my login expired. I went back from the "disabled public write access" page and reposted after logging back in but didn't notice that my changes weren't cached on my machine. I went back again to edit and accidentally resent postdata, resulting in a double-post. By the time I retyped something to the same effect as my lost message my login had expired again! This is the second time I've typed this and the third time I typed what follows. Sparkly hit effects are one of the unrealisms in video games that bug me the most. (I don't dig action movies so it doesn't bug me there...) It really shouldn't bug me in a franchise called UNREAL but it does since I know that armor doesn't do that under small arms fire. I was told it was because the bullets just don't carry the kinetic energy to heat metal to flourescence. I guess I'm weird that way, though; I use bloody hell because the unrealism of UT's default low gore makes violent maiming vastly more disturbing. I was going to say that killing tracers should be okay since it's a chosen handicap but now I think about it I see you're right. Just having some people doing it would screw up the balance between the two modes. Oh, well. As it is, I find the SMG incredibly effective; it seems to have the perfect balance between fast controllability of small guns and recoil stability of large ones while low velocity and a big clip let you unload lots of lead and, to top it off, I can judge where it's pointed from the mesh better than the other bullet guns. I can almost run and gun like in UT! If I let full-power be more stealthy I'd get my ass kicked even harder by the little starting weapon...
Crosshair scaling doesn't bother me, I just thought it would be even cooler if the xhair reacted in a more sophisticated way. I was thinking it'd be easy to implement since it'd be like the laser but then I remembered that xhairs are textures on a flat hud while the laser and what it helps aren't. Post edited by: Spiced Hammer, at: 2006/05/08 12:22 |

hey.. i think i see wot u mean about the sparks.. i think they look cool tho.. maybe we look into the yellow balls thing as 4 tracers.. maybe another option is in order?? wot u all reckon. .i'm not sure if its very easy 2 do. moving crosshairs r not that easy 2 do.. the laser sight was VERY difficult 2 do.. getting it to know where the bullet will hit.. hmy:

Pants, no way! BW needs a flamethrower! There's also a magnum idea I'm developing an unhealthy fondness for... ShadowBlade wrote: Quote: hey.. i think i see wot u mean about the sparks.. i think they look cool tho.. maybe we look into the yellow balls thing Killing the sparks would make it a lot more immersive for the slightly more realism-oriented of us...

Even as a server option where every one's on even ground, it would totally screw the secondary mode and fragment the community too much for what it's worth. I just figure they're magic bullets capable of leaving the tracer fuel unignited. Yeah, I noticed. That's why it's embarrassing. |

UglyPants, there is a different between changing a mod, and adding to a mod. :S |

Yup! Especially before 1.7, when you still had decent tracers, gunfights kinda looked like fireworks displays, which was supremely cool imo. Always put me in a festive mood, lol. Alas, looks like the party's over!

The sparks when hitting metallic surface is way too cartoony, there should be corona effect. We are talking about a bullet hitting metal faster than a soundwave. |

Hm, got any pics Bjossi? And yeah, toggleable walking and crouching would be pretty stupid! Come on people, enough with the feature requests already, let the BW team focus on more important stuff like guns, maps & vehicles! Post edited by: Redshift, at: 2006/05/08 21:50 |

I know stop with the petty whinning about the d**n features and let them make some really cool vehicles maps and weapons for there next releases! |

There is no fun using new content if it lacks the fun factor. And why is toggle-able crouching stupid? It takes 5 minutes to code it if you know what you're doing. :S |

It is pretty obvious what it does, press the Toggle Crouch button and you crouch without needing to hold down that button, then you press it again to stop crouching. |

oh, than in that case i love it!! bind that to "c" and off we go!! Just put that in the key binding section!! One question if its in the BW binding section and your not using any BW muts/ gametypes would it still work? but toggleable walking now thats stupid |

If you bind a key, it will work where the code tells it to. As long as you use ballistic mutators/gametypes it should be used. But perhaps it could work in all gametypes/mutators, that's really up to the developers. |

maybe the toggleable thing.. maybe.. depends on the difficulty really;) and Bjossi.. u seem to know stuff about coding!! do u know Uscript? |

I barely know the basics, I tried to learn but I just can't since I need to learn a coding language first I assume. But what I do remember is how the code works in each situation, but I'm often wrong about it. :S |

Uscript is probably a good language to start i guess.. its only really useful to know C++ otherwise.. game developers only use it, or some native scripting they put in themselves.

Hey guyz what you`re thinking to add mutator what enable a new moves like prone or lean Im think it will make mod more playable ! |

Bad Jetthro! No biscuit! Prone is way too immobile. In BW or UT, if you hold very still for long, you're dead. Even as a sniper. Prone is just plain a bad idea. Bu sure, if you want to use it, that makes one more stationary target for me. I just don't think it's worth the time that would have to be put into the coding, especially all those animations. |
