I was thinking instead of having a heads up display with numbers and health, Why not instead have ammo pouches on your chest that way you look down to see how much ammo you have, this could also work with armor because when you look down to check ammo you could see the condition of your armor, also health you could see blood and wounds and stuff like that. As ammo depletes the pouches look empty and when you have a lot of ammo the more full they look, same with armor.

Interesting,I really like the idea, just one flaw. Not all ammunition is on your chest, some is carried on the hips legs and most notably, the back. ;)

Thats one thing you don't need time to tell.

Well this wont be for Ut2k4 im thinking more for later when all the when its ported to a different engine. That way its not all fast paced. This is also just incase the runestorm guys decide to put a cap on how many guns you can carry that way you are not carrying like 30 guns and looking all over your body to find the ammo.

Yes i i knew kien would hate this.... but he's not part of the runestorm team SOOOOO it realy doesnt matter. Everyone has their own opinion.

I love this idea. But not as a replacement, an option would be better. Perhaps this could be used in a "Ballistic Weapons Tactical" mutator or something similar?

Hmm... With ballistic sloth this may actually be practical. You'd have just enough time to check.

And I already know Kien doesn't like the idea,he(she?really I don't know)hates it so much he/she hasn't even dignified it with a post...

People, just lay off Kien, alright? He didn't even say anything and you're bashing him. This is not exactly something I approve.

My post sounded like a bash too, what i meant to say was, i knew kien wouldnt like it it, but thats his own opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Plus he's a nice guy.

Hmm..

While it sounds nice, remember that it sucks that you have to look down, which leaves you open. But it makes it more real in a sense.

And If Kien's not around, don't bash him, it's evil... ;)

Another opinion is a mutator that adds a button, that you need to press to look at your armor, when you press it, your gun goes down and you look at your wrist PDA sorta thing, that represents how many rounds you have in the mag and how many in reserve for the weapon you're holding.

That PDA should be visible while reloading, the more observant players will see how many rounds they lost in the reload and how many they have in reserve. If you are going for realism, then the rounds in the half-empty mag should be lost. And you only have per-round knowledge of your ammo on shotguns and rocket launchers, rifles and other guns having ammo shown as magazines.
Also, with loading a half empty mag, the chambered round should be counted into the next mag, thus, with a 30 round mag, you get 31 rounds.
