Post subject:  Airstrikes

This is a project I've been working on for a while. It's basically a set of powerful airstrikes which are implemented through (I don't know yet). Right now I'm working on effects mainly, but I need models and some more complicated coding (I think). Anyone who would like to contribute please PM me or something.

I might implement it through a menu system, score system, or something similar to the Tactical Aid in World in Conflict. Any ideas, don't hesitate to tell me.

Anyway, on to the fun stuff!

List of planned single drop weapons:

BLU-82 (Daisy Cutter)[DONE]
GBU-43 (MOAB)[DONE]
W54 (1 kt nuclear warhead)[DONE]
MK-77 (Napalm bomb)[DONE]
CBU-72 (fuel-air cluster bomb)[DONE]
BLU-96 (2000 lb. FAE)[DONE]
CBU-100 (cluster bomb)[DONE]
LUU-4 (illumination flare)[DONE]
GBU-38 (500 lb. JDAM)
GBU-28 (2000 lb. bunker buster)
AGM-86 (air launched cruise missile)
Hydra 70 (rocket barrage)
AGM-154 (JSOW)[DONE]

List of multiple drop weapons(each designation calls in a certain number of them):

(15) MK-82
(5) MK-77
(5) CBU-100
(8)W54 (just kidding)

Other weapons:

PDU-5 (Leaflet drop!)
CBU-78 (Cluster bomb loaded with landmines)

Screenshots(currently only of nuke):

Please note that it looks much cooler in action.

Please leave feedback, comments, or ideas! :)

ok no THIS one i can not wait to see :D i just know it will be awesome

p.s. where do i download it/them?

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Glad to see someone paid attention to the post.
It's not available to download, because it's still being worked on. And I have no idea how to successfully implement it (at the moment it's just a bunch of target painters.) But I have some new stuff that hasn't been put into the first post yet:

Chemical bomb
Napalm carpet bombing
Regular carpet bombing
Illumination flare

I may do some fraps videos later on today.

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Update: Here's a full list of the airstrikes so far with descriptions.

BLU-82: Known as the Daisy Cutter, this massive 15,000 pound bomb was used in the Vietnam War to clear helicopter landing zones.
GBU-43: The big brother to the BLU-82, the GBU-43 MOAB is the second most powerful airstrike available. Weighing 11 tons, this bomb creates a formidable blast radius and intimidating mushroom cloud.
BLU-96: This 2,000 pound fuel-air bomb obliterates enemies with a massive shockwave.
CBU-100: This standard cluster bomb splits in midair, releasing 100 explosive bomblets which deal serious damage to the target area.
CBU-72: This version of the cluster bomb has 3 small fuel-air bombs as it's bomblets.
CBU-58: This cluster bomb splits into 75 incendiary bombs, leaving the target burning for 15 seconds.
CBU-30: This cluster bomb has 50 chemical bomblets which damage infantry in the area for 15 seconds.
AGM-154 JSOW: This cruise missile flies over the target area and drops lots of bomblets in a small rectangular area.
MK-77: This large 750 pound incendiary bomb covers the target with flaming napalm, denying any movement without damage for 15 seconds.
LUU-4: This airstrike consists of a single LUU-4 illumination flare, which illuminates the target with light for 10-15 seconds.
Carpet Bombing: This calls in a bomber to drop large amounts of bombs in a long line on the target.
Carpet Napalm: This version of the above drops many small napalm bombs.
MC-1: This chemical bomb covers the target with poison gas for 30 seconds, damaging infantry but not vehicles.
W-54: This tactical nuclear warhead obliterates a good portion of the map, irradiating the blast radius and leaving a large crater at ground zero.

that cruise missile one... sorta sounds like the jericho missile from iron man. >:D Can you see it now? The enemy won't even come out of they're hidey-hole. lol

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Kinda, I suppose. Except it's real and it's launched from a plane.

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Well yea there's that. And is this just for airstrikes or are you working on artillery too?

Author:  Herr General [ Tue Nov 03, 2009 12:06 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

I've been thinking about artillery, but can't figure out how to implement it. ??? So for now it's just airstrikes. I also need models for the planes.

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

ah... what kind of planes?

Author:  Herr General [ Tue Nov 03, 2009 12:27 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Lots of them. I've tried making them as static meshes, but they don't quite work. I'll try again though, since it's been a while.

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

well you can try to contact ut2004 support (or whatever good you're doing this for) and ask them... I say ut2004 because of the target painter and the bomber that uses. Then use the same way just with different planes. Maybe that can help you?

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

All these airstrikes are just modifications of the target painter. Basically, I need skeletal meshes since static meshes don't work. Right now, I'm stuck with the standard bomber meshes, but it seems to work fine so I'll keep it for the time being. Also, now I'm working on the GBU-38 JDAM. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Are you going to release this?

Author:  Herr General [ Wed Nov 04, 2009 3:32 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

If I could find a way to effectively implement it, I would. But massive amounts of target painters aren't very efficient or easy to work with.

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

You could make a mutator that you could select three of them and it rotates between themselves.

Author:  ChaosMarine [ Wed Nov 04, 2009 3:53 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Which one do you think is or will be the best? In your opinion.

Author:  Herr General [ Wed Nov 04, 2009 4:01 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

If I was awesome at coding or something, I'd make a menu system. But right now I can't do that and there's a large amount of airstrikes so the rotation between 3 wouldn't really work. Anybody who is willing to help though, let me know.

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

I'm trying to do something REALLY ambitious at the moment and create an AC-130U gunship strike. But I need to know how to get it to start orbiting the target once it gets there and how to make it only shoot at enemies and use different weapons( perhaps spawn special pawns with limited cones of fire?) I realize this is way beyond my coding ability, but any help would be greatly appreciated. :confusion-helpsign:

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Really cool bombs & explosions there! Maybe I might be able to help with making an artillery or modifying the SPMA to shoot the new bombs. (MIGHT, Im a lazy one and not that great at coding)

I made a bomber plane once, flyable by players. I might be able to make it drop your bombs. =D

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

The only thing I need help with regarding the SPMA is how to make it shoot farther. :|
If you want to use my bombs (there's lots of different ones) for your bomber, send me a PM and I can list a few that might work and if necessary send you the code. :)

Call of Duty 4?

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

What does CoD4 have to do with it? I know it has one, so does MW2. I want to have it autonomous, not player controlled.

I was asking if that was where you got the idea from

Author:  Herr General [ Sat Nov 28, 2009 11:24 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Kinda, but I knew about it long beforehand and was thinking about it. I wish I knew how to do that, because that would be awesome enough I think it could qualify as it's own mod.

Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

you think but I know it would lol... the only help I can be is to say look up tutorials or see if someone who does know is willing to help.

Author:  Herr General [ Sat Nov 28, 2009 1:32 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Airstrikes

Well there's no tutorials for target painters because nobody else really bothers with them. And I really don't know who to ask.

maybe someone here? or find the forums for the game and make an account there then post a thread. someone there would have to know.
