My name is Tim and I'm from Croatia. I registered on this forum to ask someone from RuneStorm (DarkCarnivour?) how to get started with game development. But, I can't IM before I participate more. Soo...anyone else here looking to make a career in game development? Btw. I'm 27. Cheers! |

Howdy and welcome! Croatia hey? I only know one game made there, but that one game is Serious Sam so I have a high opinion of Croatian games! As for how to get into game development. We are not yet in a position where we can prove our choices, but I can give you my thoughts anyway. Take of it what you will: If I could sum it up I'd say MAKE STUFF! Of course what you do now depends on your current progress. If you are just interested and know nothing about coding or modelling or producing art, you can worry less about your portfolio and have to just start learning the basic technical skills. One thing I will say is that game development is really hard! If you really want to do it, you don't care about that and you can succeed, but if not, there are easier careers. One great way to go, I feel, is to make mods! Mods are an awesome way to start learning the technical skills needed and to practice working on actual games. They also give you an easy way to release and market your projects so you get to work on 'live' games. Mods are a great way to get noticed in the industry and to prove your skills and build a portfolio. So, what area of game development is of interest to you? What work have you done so far? Are you wanting to know how to turn skills into a career or just how to start making games? |
