Post subject:  Hello I'm Laharl

So I came here because I wanted to see the screenshots that Sargent Kelly was posting in his topic of all his new toys of mass distraction that he and his friends are working on that non-members don't get to see so the curiosity got the best of me there. I also think I found a bug or a strange quark in BW that I reported in another topic and I wanted to make the rest of the BW team aware if they did not know about it already.

My first taste of Unreal Tournament was surprisingly not Unreal Gold or Classic UT but rather UT3... for the PS3 of all things. Back then I was strictly a console gamer untell I got an Alienware netbook a few years ago that came pre-loaded with Steam (with a free copy of Portal as well) on it and that's when I discovered UT2004 and other games I wanted to play for the longest time but I never had a proper gaming computer at the time. Now I play more PC games than console since then.

Now a days I play UT2004 (the GOG version) mostly and I'm starting to get in to making voice packs for UT2004. I already made about 3 even though they were just taunt packs because I was still exploring how GoldWave/Adobe Auditon and the like worked that I lost when I reset my desktop PC. Now I'm working on two and trying to make them full on voicepacks or close enough to full as I can. And they are Professor Genki from Saints Row The 3rd and Percy Spencer from a obscure Canada made TV show called Kevin Spencer.

Hello, and welcome to the forums!
It's always nice to see another UT player around these parts! :)

I personally use Audacity for making voice packs and weapon sounds. It's remarkably easy to figure out and use.

Thanks for the welcome Sir. I'm getting quite comfortable using GoldWave myself. I started using it mosty when I was researching on how to make voicepacks it looks like THE program a majorty of voicepack makers in the UT communty use to make custom voices when I looked at the credits and it does have a bit of a learning curve tied to it I learned that the hard way when I tried to work on one of my now lost full voicepacks early on of my username sake Laharl from the RPG Disgaea using the ripped copys of my OVA DVD's (anime nerd here) I had for a long time and it came out too quiet when I was testing and I jacked the volume after to about 600% and it came out somewhat disorted that you get the feeling Laharl being too close to the mic. I'm glad I lost that voicepack. Not one of my best early work.

Thanks. I'm glad I saw the light. I missed out on so much I got to play at long last last year the criminally underrated Psychonauts best known as the game people use as an example nowadays of what's wrong with the Gaming Industry as a whole on terms of creativity and after I was finished I was kicking myself on how long I went with out playing it.

I also got spurred on by being a full-time PC gamer more or less from Saints Row the 3rd from the increasing obvious fact that THQ is selling the game back to players in the form of unneeded DLC and it did not help that the mission packs they hyped were VERY short that you could finish them in about 2-3 hours end to end even shorter when you upgrade your Boss to the point he no sells almost everything.

I'm planing on saving up for a proper gaming rig then using this cheap $500 Acer desktop that has a mid-range chipset that can't play anything from about 2008 onward. UT3 on on this system somewhat works but it's a bit choppy on the movement. But I'm heading off to Portland hopefully in the fall first before I plan out my new system.

Thank you. I was thinking at first of doing models but I don't know my way around a modeling program to save my life ditto with mapping so that left me with making voice packs. And also I wanted to do some voicepacks on people that no one has even thought of doing just to be different and it helps to have a lot of DVD's to get material from and know of quite a few TV shows that the general public does not know about.

Use blender 3D ;) this is what some people here use. It's free and it works quite well.

Blender eh... Ok I'm game for giving it a shot I still got to reinstall a few more programs to my system still so I can add that one in the queue.

In other news I also managed to get FRAPS and Any Video Converter back online and I recorded a video of me playing with the Percy Spencer voice pack I'm working on (it's in its 3rd revision) so in the near future after I finish the back up some more UT2004 mods I like to my Box account I'm going to upload the video to YouTube and make a new topic in the beta section showing off some of the taunts and a download of what I did so far. I worked on it so far for about 1 1/2 months now and I so far have 68 unique sounds.

Though if you want to try modeling with blender, do you do any kind of graphical art ?

Well back in the day I did draw with pencil and paper and even a bit of Photoshop (I'm testing out Photoshop 13/CS6 at the moment) and a tablet here and there but not so much anymore mosty because DeviantART was a horrible place to post your wares you made since quite a bit of the userbase there is self serving and have a nasty ego and it's only got worse from there from what I noticed.

Now if I do any kind of art it's just going around where I live sometimes with my Sony DSLR camera and talking pictures of the surroundings and then going home and cleaning the pictures up in Photoshop after.

If you pencil draw this shouldn't be much a problem, If you have the real motivation you can give a try, and if you have trouble, you can try asking here

Yep I'm planing on heading on over this Fall again for about close to a month then compared to 2 years ago when I went there just for a week where I got to see a lot of things like the Japanese Garden, Voodoo Doughnuts and where they filmed the Portland PD segments for that Spike TV program Jail for example but I missed out on seeing Laser Floyd at the Science Center and the sub parked next door on the docks that was used in The Hunt for Red October the first time around.
