It's not bad, but it slows my computer down, BAD.

I use it very rarely but that is just because I only have a few games on it.

TurdDrive, what exactly doesn't work?

It's the bandwidth that's the problem for us.. Seems very nice if you have the speed and bandwidth.

Bandwith is not a big issue if you buy a Steam-exclusive game in retail, Steam will install from the DVD rather than downloading the content.

Yes, but the updates are a pain....but maybe they sort it out in the new client...the beta is looking rather nice...

Auto-updates can be disabled on a per-game basis so you can have some control and choose to enable it when there is enough bandwidth left near the end of a month.

I haven't checked out the beta yet though, it'll be interesting to see it when it has been rolled out of beta onto a Steam update.

How did you not see Steam coming when buying the Orange Box?

I don't like the idea of having to have a membership to buy a game I saw in a shop. That's what it said on the T's&C's, anyway.

I love it and use it literally every day. It's a very useful program.

I have a high-speed connection so the downloads are not an issue, though.

It terribly sucks. When I bought the beautiful 8800GTX, I got a free game for it. That was Ice Planet or something, I don't know, it was for Windows(obviously) and of Japanese origin, made by Capcom. First, I had to install Steam, then install the game. And finally, I thought I could play the game already...NO! More time to install, this time, its Steam that installs the game.

SERIOUSLY?! I prefer Windows Live, even if it sucks too, more than that piece of crap Steam. I'm fecking glad Bioshock 2 Multiplayer choosed Windows Live instead of Steam!

My friend Samuel still uses it, not anymore though.

I like it... Kinda like the smelly old dog which always tries to breath in your face all the time...
I should dislike it, but for some reason I do like it...

Malanok

P.S Maybe because I got about 10 games for 50p... (Yay car-boot sales!)

It's an analogy, Grizz.

It often feels like most games these days are using Steam or GFWL.

I never had any of the above mentioned problems with steam.

Sometimes I have problems with playing a game I bought once over LAN with my brother using the same account, that sucks.
But thats the only thing that really sucks.

Other than that, it's easy to find and purchase games and downloading them. You can also download and install a game on any computer without the need of a CD.

Post subject:  Re: Do you like/use Valve's Steam ?

I like the concept of steam, but I do not like how it works, or the way that it does so. I do not like that it doesn't use a standard installation method, making games (And mods for them) difficult to use/install. My friend has UT3 (Via steam) and I could not get the crucible to work for the life of me, so I literally installed it into 6 different places hoping one of them was the right one. Turns out one of them was, but it still didn't work the way it should've, so I kinda just gave up on it altogether.

Either every game ever needs to have a steam equivelent to eliminate this or they need to do standard installations like other programs. (C://Program files/publisher/gamename) Or wherever you want. Hell, even C://Steam/Publisher/game would be better.

I've also never had problems with download speeds or bandwidth, but then, I don't use steam for that. I also only have like 3 games on it. (L4D, Titan quest and CS source)

It's great if you have a good connection, if you don't you're screwed... :-\

I would like it if you didn't have to update the game before being allowed to play it, it makes no sense..

Do you know what will happen to your games when Steam ceases to exist or if Valve's server farms go down for one reason or another?

Yeah i do, but the same can be said for mobile phones, the internet, online bank accounts ect... i have faith in valve.

Post subject:  Re: Do you like/use Valve's Steam ?

The same can't be said for retail games, however, unless they are shipped through Steam as well, or use some draconian malware imposed by publishers. The last part is far too common these days. I don't like being treated like a criminal, and getting my computer infected with kernel-level drivers that can potentially render one or more of my system's components irreversibly damaged (Starforce anyone?).

Post subject:  Re: Do you like/use Valve's Steam ?

I like their specials. L4D for $6.79!! and only $10 for both!!

Still, for us here, we need more bandwidth and a way of paying for games on Steam to make it really useful.

I'm sure that many of the reported "problems" with Steam are in the game itself and nasty publisher DRM junk, or standard user hashing up of things :P

Post subject:  Re: Do you like/use Valve's Steam ?

Well there are a lot of games that may cause crap, lots of small indie games could cause some issues... :)

It's the cheapest way to get games, and if you think about it, it's one of the most environment friendly entertainments!, well besides the power to run things, but I'd still buy the game if it was wrapped in a mountain of plastics.. :D

Of course i'd rather have a case for my game, and not have to download it, it looks more impressive on your shelf too.. ;)
Lan games are also a bitch, several accounts, and unless you distribute the files, several copies too!.. >:(

But by far, the bandwidth and credit cards are the worst, I don't want to buy my game with money I don't have!, nor have it keep me offline for a month, or space it and wait a year to download the entire thing, and it's subsequent updates... :(

However you can download many add-ons for your games with ease!, and thats nice...

That 66% off L4D sale was real nice. I made a mistake and bought both L4D1 and 2 for $6.77 before realizing they had that $10 special. Image

By the way, you can easily play LAN games between multiple computers with only one Steam account. I was just doing it the other day with GTA IV and L4D. You just gotta ignore that annoying "Press Shift-Tab to login again".
