Post subject:  Strange customized version of BW 2.5?

Hello everyone,

I wasn't aware I made an account on this website, in fact, I don't remember ever coming here or posting here. Anyway, I come to you with a rather interesting question, if I may say so myself.

Some good 6/7 years ago, I first ran into BW on MODDB, being an active member at the time I had my fair share in making sure this mod got spread all around, next to the ever popular Infiltration (UT99) and other mods 'similar' to it.

A few years ago one of my harddrives died, and I made a clone of it's image, on which I found a rather strange copy of BW 2.5. As far as I know, it can't be older than 2013, but I can't for the life of me remember how I got it or when I installed it; In fact, because I didn't know it was so strange, I ended up deleting it earlier this week, because I figured it was simply outdated.

It appeared to be some weird amalgamation of BW 2.5 (Gold) with Sgt. Kelly's weapon pack and several key factors from BWPro/BWExtreme, including several weapon fixes and additional animations, smart bots, a huge array of extra settings and some weapons that aren't available in either SGT. Kelly's pack, Carver's or TOWP.

I remember vaguely that the title screen read 'BW: Community edition', sort of like Infiltration: CE.
I used to collect mods like these a lot, so it's no surprise it eventually ended up being my main version of BW.

Now, I've searched high and low for this and I'm wondering how I got it and what was so different about it, aside from various fixes and extra features. I imagine this has been deleted from many sites/archives due to the falling out of Aza and Kelly, if I read that correctly.

Does anyone have an idea what it might have been and where I could have gotten/get it now?

On a side note, is there absolutely, positively, no other way to implement Kelly's pack with BWPro, or any of the additional features some mods add?

TL;DR version

Some time ago I bumped into a specialized edition of BW 2.5, as far as I know dubbed Community Edition, that had all of Sgt. Kelly's weaponry + some fixes introduced by BWFix/BWExtreme. I have no idea how I got it, from where, or what it actually was, but it plays completely 'different' from a vanilla BW install. I accidentally 'reinstalled' vanilla BW over this, and can't find the original. Any pointers what it might have been, where I might have gotten it from, and where to get it now? TYVM.

EDIT:
I believe I got this from MODDB, otherwise I probably would not have downloaded it.

BW Pro is not BW Extreme.

If it uses some of the many additional features from BWExtreme, i'd like to be informed about that.

I was unaware that any such community edition ever existed. Currently my bonus pack is only compatible with stock, though there are older BWFix versions that overwrite core files that can be used with it.

What were the additional weapons?

They were mostly recoloured skins of weapons in WD4 and 5, usually popping up as random drops. I take it some of these also existed in the versions as is, such as the tiger-striped/flecktarn .45 Compact.

I specifically remember an FN 5-7 look-alike using the 9mm glock-look-a-like model as a base, as well as various itterations of the assault rifles with/without scopes, red-dot, holo sights and different types of firemodes and grenade launchers, some even sported built in silencers and different coloured laser sights.

I remember a download link stuffed in a readme of this mod, leading to the MODDB page of Ballistics (or it's featured mutator/addon page), which simply stated that 'this download (and it's information) is no longer available.' However, it had no trace of the copyright issues (and such) as the moddb pages now state left and right.

Well, besides the mysterious new weapons, I do know you can customize the HECK out of BW just with existing mutators so... I'm pretty sure you could recreate the whole thing altogether if you wanted.

Well, I am quite the modder, if I say so myself, both programming, modelling and texturing wise, but I am a complete dunce when it comes down to anything Unreal-engine related. Even Deus Ex back in the day gave me trouble, and I can't imagine UT2K4 getting any more user friendly.

I'll see what I can figure out, or perhaps I won't and just enjoy BWPro!
... Although I am rather fond of Sgt. Kelly's weapon pack...

I have no interest in Extreme's content.

I'd appreciate it if the passive aggressive attitude would stop.

Ah, sounds like that's the camo system in play. I believe you had the latest experimental release of SKBP, as it had those variants in it. Guns could randomly spawn with or without extra attachments and stuff, and there were a ton of extra prototype guns.

And yeah, sadly I don't know if there are any links left to that content. Somebody hostile to the mod got the ModDB links taken down by reporting the content as infringing sound copyrights or something, and it looks like some of the links in my thread are dead. I'll probably rehost those files this weekend.

That'd be awesome... but how would one implement some of the more recent unofficial fixes?
I'd like to be able to set my run/walk/crouch speeds and such.

I referred to the "strange version of BW 2.5".
There was no aggression in that regarding to BW Pro.

I dont play nor mod BWPro, you not BWX. And BWE never happened - sadly.

Well, maybe it should happen! C'mon guys. It's so silly why this didn't happen. Let's put all that behind us and at least talk about it again.

I do not fully understand what happened, I only read about BW:E as a concept some 2-3 years ago, so I can't say much. But as a modder and developer I do know that the tiniest nitpick can tear apart companies and development teams.

Fighting is for children, and I do believe we are all adults here.

That's all I'll say on that point.

That's just it though, BWFix was made and released well before BW:E came into existance, and I, having been part of Sgt. Kelly's Bonus Pack since the very first release, animating almost all of the weapons to it, was all for porting our pack to BWFix.

It had all sorts of bugs fixed, played well online, some of the weakest, under powered guns got balanced to be on par with the rest, some of the more powerful ones brought back in line with the rest, and the super weapons were given a killstreak slot for loadout. It even got 3rd person animations later on. There really wasn't any reason to not port it, it was just one person who said no to it.

Anyways, almost all of the team that worked on Sgt. Kelly's pack have moved on to BWPro/Fix and TOWP and we're just doing our thing.

Our code gets put to the test 24/7. If a bug pops up we'll find it, no worries. :)

Get over it.

Seriously.

Everyone else has moved on. Just get over it.

This behaviour all seems rather childish, from an outsider's point of view.

I'll just stalk the forums for another 5 years, like I have before, and see where this all leads to.

Good luck to you all.

Nothing impedes you to post and do something around, but I believe that the whole shitstorm have done worse things regarding the community than people lacking of interest regarding the upcoming stuff for the mod.
Although consider this mod being fortunate because in a lot of mods the projects went canceled with absolutely no release whatsoever and no continuation.

BW is still unofficially continued and there are teams around.
