My Frankenstein of a computer was a Dell or Lenovo at some point, several years ago. Now it is simply a monster in a custom case with pretty blue lights. It's capable of running most games on Ultra High, though Battlefield 3 needs to be run on medium.

I'm a man without vices, no smoke, no drink, not going to the cinemas, no parties, no girlfriend, no vacations, no cars, my job is next to my house, etc etc... so all the money I got is saved.

Same here, no vices so the money I make from my jobs usually goes towards computer parts, car fuel, and food fuel.

I'll tell you what though, my PC is much lower than what Epic recommends people use for UDK development and content development in general Map compiling takes and eon!

Still, no complaining; with RK getting near, we'll be raking in gold hand over fist

That thing must weigh 80 pounds. I'm glad I got my LCD, even if it was only a 17" one.

Also, the availability of cheap parts vs. quality is getting better, minus extras, my machine cost me ~700 bucks. As long as you have a decent motherboard, you're pretty much set. You can pick up 8 gigs of RAM for just over 40 bucks now. When I bought'm a year ago the same sticks went for 120.

I built my wife's machine, it's pretty much comparable to mine. She chose this fantastically Fallout3 style case that's bright neon pink. I love it.

Though if anyone DOES want to upgrade, I'd be willing to do parts hunting and make a list for people as long as they know their budget.

OK, One mouse for each hand, but I don't want to know what you use the thrard one with. Thats just creepy.

Over all the system it's not very state of the art by today standards but it can still play a lot of the games Steam and GOG offers quite handley. I'm thinking of when I upgrade to a true gamer computer I'm going to make the Acer a workstation for UT2004 projects only.

I also have a small fleet of laptops in my possession. I won't go in too much details with them as I did with my desktop but I use these guys off and on when needed. The red laptop on the far left is a Acer netbook that I use if I'm going somewhere on holiday since it's a dirt cheap and small computer just for e-mail and storing pictures off of camera memory cards.

The computer in the middle is my oldest and my first laptop ever that still works even today. It a Toshiba Satellite Pro it runs Windows XP and today I only use it just for largely one thing now and that's using DVDFab to rip video data off DVD's for converting to my Motorola Xoom to watch on the go or if I'm working on a voicepack. I nicknamed this system Ripjack even before I discovered there is a Unreal weapon of the same name.

The one on the right is an Alienware M11x that's now from the looks of it discontinued now. It's a high end gaming netbook and the cheapest in the Alienware system line-up at the time and I got it for only about $750 at the time and this was the computer that helped me discover PC gaming, Steam and UT2004.




And I'm also a man without any vices (Straight Edge) as well as a few other people have already said before that's how I am able to get my hands on a lot of computer stuff and more so since I don't drive and only pay $45 a year for a bus pass to get around. Heh with the way it costs to drive where I live I'm glad I can afford to go with out a car work is just down the street and it's going to get worse in about 2 months when the government pump tax goes up a final time and next the government is starting to make unpleasant sounds of maybe adding troll roads and advanced forms of yearly registrations for cars, trucks & vans. And no I don't live in the UK.

Vices or no Vices, there are higher priorities than ensuring you have the fanciest rig, if you have anything left over then sure why not..

But you can't laugh at someone who doesn't have enough money to buy the best now can you?, nothing impressive about having money to buy things.....

Anyway, if one does have the money, one can certainly start getting the best, because you can, but I wouldn't think it makes one better, that's just my take on fancy PC rigs, I'm not impressed, but it's nice to see what other people get, good to know...

Mine does what I need it to do and I have no real complaints, although I sure wouldn't mind having an upgrade...

Whoops! I forgot this. Yes, I have Windows 7 in my 2TB HD. And speaking of my 15" CRT, what's the problem? Jokes apart, I'm very accustomed with this monitor, it has vivid colors and sharp.

Anyway, you should probably upgrade to an LCD or some kind of flatscreen monitor, those CRTs are quite awful, and not very healthy either, I'm glad I no longer have one, although the exercise of lifting one is good...

DC was just forced to upgrade to a GeForce GTX560 because the 9800 died. It runs the few things tested so far very well (UDK, GTA-IV on full, Rage).

What I reckon we *really* need though are some extra monitors. UnrealEd is just one of the many things we use that would benefit hugely from the extra space. Hardware isn't the cheapest thing down here in SA though; monitors especially, are still way too pricey.

Maybe I change the CRT monitor by the Samsung LCD SyncMaster 711MP from my third PC. But if one day I buy a LCD it would be a LG PC/TV combo monitor.

And speaking about health, guys I have a question: the wireless technology is harmful to health? I mean: I have a Logitech Wireless Combo MK260 (inalambric keyboard and mouse) and one gamepad that uses wireless 2,4 Ghz technology, is harmful?

No it shouldn't be harmful. You've had radio signals running through your body 24/7 ever since you were born. If they were harmful, the effects would be apparent by now.

The only time I have ever heard about wireless signals being harmful was a cancer scare involving Cellphone signals in the past, but only if you had constant skin contact with the aerial as you held the phone to your ear. That was a long time ago (more than a decade) so it probably isn't relevant now.

And the ULTRA MEGA TIME TRACKING SECONDOMETER has a WHOPPING IMPRESSIVE SUPER AMAZING... actually I don't think it has any memory whatsoever. It loses the time whenever the power goes off.

The AOC? Pretty popular brand it seems. Its quite common you can find a really cheap AOC monitor that still has a decent resolution and color and that's why I got that one.

Too bad it didn't come with a DVI port but I guess I get what I pay for.

I'm not trying to be judgmental, but what exactly is it that makes MLP popular among males of the 18-24 age group? I saw one episode of it to see what the deal was and all I watched was a cartoon aimed for younger girls.

I'm so confused.

I been wondering this for the longest time myself man. Me and a few others from different forms like Something Awful for example have been trying to study this with no clear explanation on why this stuff is popular with young adult to 30+ some odd year old males (trust me on the 30 year old male thing I seen videos of people this age on "Bronie Meetups" going in to the MLP section of a toystore with the little kids confused on why there are men obsessing over the toys).

Well I don't really have a problem with it. It just confuses me is all.

It takes a little more than one episode to find the qualities that make it a good show. Also, even to the creator of the show, it's not aimed at a young female audience. It's a family show, meant for all ages, there's a lot of humor in it that a young kid isn't going to get (Another PERFECT example is spongebob) thats aimed at older people.

At first I had no idea what it was, but I do like the show, because it's well drawn, the plots and stories are involved, and it's just genuinely entertaining. It also depends on which episode you watch. I'm no fanatic though.

Your comparison to Spongebob didn't help your argument. I really really hate that show.

But still, even beyond that, whats with that you-can't-even-go-online-without-seeing-it fanaticism that isn't nowhere near that widespread for some other show that shares many of those elements, like Adventure Time (which freakin' rocks)?
