Phaser is an anacronym. What it stands for makes perfect sense.

Blaster, on the other hand. . .It's just a. . .blaster. Tells you nothing other than it's a generic energy weapon that isn't a laser.

The trekkies are more aggressive. Just look at what happens when one of those nerd wars occur, the STers usually lose a fight because ST lacks melee weapons so they try firing imagined beams from their imagined guns.

Star Trek does NOT lack melee weapons. Star Wars does. All we ever see in the movies is the freaking lightsabers.

In StarTrek, I can think of. . .Ten different weapons off of the top of my head. Not counting ones that exist in real life.

And don't say that lightsabers are original. Lucas wasn't even the one to come up with them.

Oh, and give me a lightsaber and I could kill any Jedi or sith I've ever seen, so long as they didn't use the force. Their fighting stinks. It's just a bunch of showy slashing about. They're constantly overextended and exposed.

But hey, at least it LOOKS good, right? And that's good enough for Star Wars Fans.

Yeah, but the thing is, jedi DO use the force, they need it to help compensate for crappy fighting.

When I saw a few shows of StarTrek Enterprise series, the fights can be pretty intense, but they look too fake...

Enterprise was by far the worst of the series. you want a really awesome fight in Star Trek, go see Star Trek nemesis.

Enterprise was the only series I ever saw, so I have nothing to compare to. And I didn't see any of the movies, maybe I'll rent Nemesis some time.

I mean really, you have to admit that the star wars aliens look a lot more original than the star trek ones. A ridge here, some funny markings there, and a different complexion makes up the only differences from the aliens to the humans...

I agree, Star Trek does stick to humanoid races a lot more than Star Wars does, but that inevitable when you're running a television series. Exotic lookking races are a dozen-odd times more expensive to put on screen. Not too hard for feature films, but impossible for television.

And what Star Trek lacks in physical diversity in it's aliens, it more than makes up for in cultural diversity. Honestly, the only cultural and behavioral differences you see in the Star Wars movies are minimal at best. Maybe it's there, but you don't get to see it.

Star Trek really is much better Sci-Fi. It's better storytelling, and carries better messages. Star Wars is great, it's exciting and the general population of this planet connects very well with it, but I see so much more of value in Star Trek, that for me at least, there really is no comparison. I regret that Star Trek has picked up the geeky label that makes it so unpopular with people who buy into the whole pop culture thing.

Yeah, that is true. I realize that just putting on the klingon makeup each week takes a lot of time, it'd suck for the actors to put on more.

Personally, I can't really get into most of the star trek series. They seem to be the same thing every episode, except for deep space nine. I love that series. It actually goes into depth about the federation itself, not just saving some planet orthe ship from a giant asteroid or whatnot every episode.

You're right, the setting for DS9 really did allow the writers do develop a lot more depth and carachter for the setting, and the races and governments involved. And it had some awesome actors too.

All the series (Except maybe Enterprise) had some great actors, I'm a huge fan of Patrick Stewart, Johnathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, Mirina Sirtis, Gates Mcfadden and all the other TNG Charachters, but the writers didn't do as good a job with giving the actors great stuff to work with as they did on DS9.

Yeah, I liked the characters from TNG, but they didn't really do much. DS9 was a lot darker than any of the other series, and there were things going on that the characters couldn't actually control. It gave it a feel of a complex universe, with cultures clashing, and not everyone on the station actually liked the federation.
