I'm not sure if Macs have specially made hardware for them. If that is the case, using Windows is only going to improve performance minimally.

does any one know if modern games take advantage of dual processors? so instead of onlying using 1.8Ghz it would really be almost 4? cuz my new intel mac is dual and thats great if most games do that.........

well i don't know the answer to that, but i do know that some software like Adobe photoshop take advantage of it.

No game does that yet actually, and dual processor doesn't mean it is 3.6 Ghz, that is BS. What really is going on is that the two cores share tasks with each other. This feature isn't programmed in any game engine yet, maybe Quake 4 and Prey, but that's it for now.

You aren't going to see much benefit though even if the games support it, Intel have the worst core-sharing technology available, Core 2 Duo is a massive step forward because they beat my AMD by at least 80%.

Bjossi if theres one thing you should know about me its i dont make sense some times. what i was getting at is would both processors divide up the work between them to control stress on one processor (making the performance smoother). thats really odd if most games arent programed to do that.......

It ain't odd, this technology is very new. All games that are older than the dualcore technology are unsupported, plus games newly released after it. Quake 4 is the first game to have benefit from them as far as I know.

And you have a good point; never give kids a lot of money, they'll spend it into the blue air.

ok, that was a cheap shot. i am 15 and a lot brighter than most my friends (even my brother). i am a goof some times but i know what i am doing. i have been saving up for my own mac for some time now, the money wasnt "given" to me i earned it.

I just can't help it but be dissapointed that such a great guy like James spent $1480 without even thinking about it, my computer costed less than that to build, and it is much more powerful. James computer is no match and yet it costed more.

Macs are like Intel and Sony; they have a reputation based on marketing, not on product quality.

bjossi, i do see where you are coming from and you make good points. but i am just a mac guy, getting use to windows would be terrible for me (i do know how to use it though). appearently at this mac site some one with the same computer (exact) can run Quake 4, Doom3, COD2 fine so i am happy. sorry i disapoint you, my age has nothing to do with this.

And by the way, the games run fine on what settings? With 128 Mbs of vRAM I assume medium or high at most.

well i just prefer macs over PC's plain and simple (arrow keys have nothing to do with it ).

No, you prefer the operating system Mac over Windows. This is a matter of getting used to new things, and that was exactly my point with the keys. If it takes me 5 minutes to get used to brand new controls, it shouldn't take the average person longer than a few days getting used to a new OS if you are open-minded.

And just to tell you; my first computer had Windows 3.1, I used that up until 1996. And I can tell you I was stubborn as hell to get Windows 95 because it looked so different, but I made the switch and it was a good decision.

And to tell you; Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 are so different that it makes Mac OS X and WinXP look like twins.

Yes, you always prefer what you are used to, but sometimes the more practical & logical thing to do is slap yourself in the face and make a minor or major changes to make life easier. Try to win your own brain in that duel, I have done so quite a few times and it is possible.

You won't need a virus protection if you don't view porn or visit illegal websites frequently. And there are plenty of good, free virus protection like AVG.

Just to remind you; if you install Windows, it could create problems if you dualboot instead of dumping the Mac OS X first. That mostly depends on the motherboard's BIOS, but you never know around which corners someone waits for you with a knife.

what could go wrong? half the HD mac, half windows. how could that create such a big problem?

I'm speaking from my own experience, plus I have seen reported that dual booting is a big trouble maker. It seems to work fine for many people though, maybe you'll be a part of that group.
