i think another sniper would be a good idea, maybe with different uses, eg:
> Barret .50 - slower rate of fire (maybe bolt action) , but more damage
> Dragunov SVD- Less Accurate, higher rate of fire, bigger clip

Both would be good. The Dragunov SVD isn't a bolt action rifle, i think the Dragunov SVD would be a good concept for a cool totally RS designed sniper rifle.

why would it go through walls? Its not high speed like the railgun, don't even understand how the railgun can shoot through walls.

A .50 BMG chambered weapon generally will not go through reinforced concrete, but they will go through a lot of unreinforced concrete masonry unit (cinderblocks, bricks....)

All BW guns have some sort of penetrating power. So a Baret Light .50 would definitely go through some walls.

I think the problem with adding more sniper rifles to ballistic weapons is that RS have pretty much got all of the bases covered already. Adding more would make one of the existing ones obsolete.

There's the ultri high damage, ultra low rate of fire rifle (railgun), the medium rate of fire, medium damage rifle (sniper rifle), and the low damage, high rate of fire gun (battle rifle). There's not much room between these to fit another rifle in.

Consider the Barret for example. I agree that if it did make it into the game it should have a slower rate of fire and a higer damage than the sniper rifle, as that fits its real world characteristics (as far as I know) pretty well. But consider how making a gun like this would affect the other weapons.

The standard sniper rifle kills people in two shots, (ignoring headshots), the railgun kills them in one, but it's balanced because of its huge recharge time and also because of the very obvious blue beam it produces. If you added the barret between those two think what would happen.

A: The barret does more damage than the sniper rifle, and can kill people in one shot.

Now there's not much point in the railgun, is there? Presumably the barret will fire faster than it, and won't leave behind an obvious contrail. Sure, it doesn't do as much damage as the railgun, but if it kills people in one hit then that doesn't really matter.

B: The barret does more damage, but not enough to kill people in one shot.

Then it's not a very useful weapon. It takes just as many shots to kill someone as the sniper rifle, but the longer reload time will mean that the sniper rifle is a better choice.

well if you give the Barret a tracer kinda like what they did with the GoW sniper, then i'd work well.

I think theres plenty of room for a Barret, if the clip size is 5 rounds it has a slow chambering action, and slow reload, is totally unstable in a standing position, you have to kneel...or maybe even deploy a bipod like the new minigun

Doesn't the normal sniper rifle in the retail UT2K4 have tracers every shot? Come to think of it, I think the BW sniper rifle does, too.

The Barret light .50 can empty a 10 rd, clip in 10 seconds. There are reports of it ripping people in half. It can shoot through more tham i think 3 feet of concrete given the appropriate ammo.

The dragunov is a very accurate long range sniper rifle that fires the 7.62*54R ammo. its basically just a normal semi automatic snipers rifle.

i was gonna buy a dragunov but decided not to because i could not find one. so i bought a k98 m48 instead. Id like to get a brret but thtat would cost $8000.

8000 is a lot to throw around for anything.

The crappy audio is engine related to a degree, so my angry look goes mainly towards the monkey that programmed the audio engine in UE2.

THe british have a .50 cal weap now that is lighter then the barret and looks plain mean.

Anyhow, this is like the umpteen-billionth time a barret .50 has been suggested. But, hey, I think I can life with that. Anyhow, I was very suprised to find that the one we've already got is a .50, it's look and feel suggest something in 5.56 or 7.62.

If it's gonna be a .50, it's damage should be bumped up a bit, and it definetly needs it's sound kicked up a notch. And the model should be beefed a but also. The thing looks beautiful as-is, but it also looks like a .50 round would break it.

Also, the dragunov isn't really a sniper rifle as much as it is an area control weapon. Rather than being issued to real snipers, it was issued to the Russian equivalent of designated marksmen in a squad. It's still a great rifle, but it doesn't have the accuracy for really long range engagements.
