I'd say try and open the .pak files (I think thats what they are) with something like WinZip and look around, you might be able to find the files in one of them.

Just rename the PK4 files to ZIP and open them, I recommend using a program that shows folder structure.

7-Zip can open up PK4 files directly by the way, for those who are lazy.

The Doom 3 mod is called "GTX", and there's also a version for Quake 4. Both look pretty good, except they seem a tad too bloomy for my tastes (Still better than none at all, though).

My biggest gripe with bloom is when it's overdone to the point where everything looks friggin shiny as hell... I know it's supposed to add "realism", but when everything shines like crazy...

I downloaded 7-zip and extracted all the PK4 files and got some cool things. Like textures and OGG.files which i need to find an OGG player to listen to.

Roxio Media Center plays .ogg's, along with UT2004.

I downloaded a plug in for real player. I think i might use some of these ambients for a ut level

Why did you extract everything? It's unneccesary to duplicate files, just run/extract those you need or want to check out.

I could of but I'm not gonna delete em now. And I created a new file just for doom 3 files. Im also thinking as soon as i learn how to import textures im gonna use some of those textures for a level as well

Well, making the game loading the core files from folders instead of compressed archives is going to reduce performance. iD specially optimized the engine to work well with PK4s.

That is pretty simple, just open a texture file (TGA format) and use the Save As feature.

Well, I tried this bloom mod and... Well, I can't say I'm very impressed.

The shininess looks fine and all (Maybe a little too bright in some maps, but that's not the fault of the guys who created this), but it's their attempt at making that 'edge blur' effect that makes it look bad. It's not so noticable in screenshots, but in motion, it seems like it's trying to render single, big dark pixels or something, and it doesn't look very nice at all... It looks like things just keep flickering in and out, and it's especially bad on small trees or brush, 'cause they look like blobs from far away.

Anywho, all in all, I'd say it's a nice start, but they need to tighten up the blur effect a little. When that happens, I'll have no qualms leaving it on my mutator list.

well i think the only bloom/HDR, we can truely hope for is in UT2k7.

I'm not trying to say that it's completely out of the question for '04, just that it needs some work. Everything's gotta start somewhere, and this is better than no possibility of nice new graphical effects for '04 at all.

Of course, '07 is guaranteed to look incredible... Just look at GoW, and since they'll have even more graphical freedom with the PC version...

This has a pretty simple explanation, UE2 doesn't support bloom, at all in fact. So they had to go a different route to create the illusion. Better than nothing at least.

I think we all kinda figured that part out when there wasn't any bloom in the game to begin with . I'm just saying that, in it's current state (Regardless of how it's accomplished), it more detracts from the visual experience than adds to it. However, I will agree that it's certainly better than nothing, and I have no doubts that it can be tightened up a bit. After all, there is no shortage of talented developers in UT04's mod community, as we can see at this very site!

I think you are looking for the word 'plastic'. The light reflection of the metal in Doom 3 is almost as unrealistic as it gets. But I guess it was kind of intentional, if you have tried to look at a metal that is reflecting light, you'll mow what I mean. Or at least your eyes will.

That was the very bug I reported early in this thread, it completely ruins the fun of the mutator in my opinion.

It doesnt effect the regular UT weapons as much though, at least for me it didnt

It does. I played a match with default weapons using this mutator.
I hope the author will find a way to fix it, this mutator has good potential.

I think it has potential, but only in the darker levels since the outdoor levels with sand become overly bright. Maybe a brightening settings in the mutator config menu would work?

A scale like that is unlikely to be possible, considering that bloom in this case isn't rendered as a graphics feature in the engine but as a static mesh/texture of some sort.

Well if it's a texture, then you can have it change the brightness by having a different texture that isn't so bright, and just have a few of that texture with each brightness level. Maybe about 7 different textures for it to work. I dunno, but it would be possible with a texture, but if it's a static mesh, I dunno how it even worked in the first place!

That will just make some people happy but others unhappy, pretty much the same as right now...
A scaler would be a better idea, I'm not sure if that is possible though.
