Here's a little something I came up with I believe 2 summers ago.

I call it the CYLO. Don't ask why, because I couldn't tell you, other than perhaps it just sounds cool.

It is light enough to wield single handedly, but as one might guess, limits you to only using one of the barrels. (mayhaps alt fire if dual wielded could switch hand placement )

Bit 'o a back story/origin:

Originally designed for use in SWAT teams due to its extreme versatility. Great for riot control if using rubber bullets and beanbags for the SMG/12 guage combo, and the top barrel (SMG) also be adapted to be an assault rifle mechanism instead. SMG barrel has a special gel-like coating on the outside of the barrel (hidden inside the gun's casing) that dampens recoil and allows it to fit into the gun (with the help of attachment rings on sections of the barrel).

The assault rifle variant does not have any recoil dampening due to the slightly larger barrel.

The shotgun array functions similarly, capable of accepting larger shotgun or grenade launcher arrays.

Note: The weapon arrays are not something you could change in the middle of battle, as you need to tak apart a panel and then risk getting grime in it and you'd also probably want a flat surface... just not a good idea, although it would be posible, I'd think it's best if that wasn't included.

The shotgun is semiauto with a drum clip.
The SMG can be full-, semi-auto, or burst fire with a clip in back.

It also sports three standard rail mounts to attach tact. lights, laser pointers, and/or various sights and scopes.
In front of the gun underneath the barrels is also a spot to hold a tact. light designed specially for the CYLO (nothing different other than the fact it fits there) or a bayonet, which can be used for chopping or thrusting.

Believe it or not, the primary (maybe sole) source of inspiration for this came from the Pulse Rifle from the movie Aliens.

Note: For the current state of BW, I feel that an AR should be in place rather than an SMG.

I've been working on a similar (yet much simpler) idea for a weapon pack I started. It is an SMG/Shotgun where the bottom 2 barrels fire energy charges rapidly and the top barrel fires a bunch of energy charges.

Hmm. . .like the concept, but I'm not extremely fond of the picture. Looks like it would be a pain to try and use effectively in real life. Or maybe that's just my imagination becaues it looks unusual.

Yeah, it looks unusual, part of the reason why I drew it that way.

As for being uncomfortable, I don't see how, as its got pretty much standard pistol-grip styled handles...

As for shotgun/SMG…… go for it, it makes good sense to me

Its actually a pretty small gun, I did a model of it once, got things proportioned better and slapped it in the hands of a character, wasn't very big.

This one does seem a bit big, I think I probably made the handles too small.

It would be fairly heavy for a SMG anyways, but it could also just be adapted to be an AR in game instead, make it a bit better.

Plus, you know, with the future comes ultra light weight polymers.

Thanks, by the way. I kind of like the idea of a lighter gun coupled with a shotgun.

Also, the standard shotgun might instead be just a 20 guage, dunno. 20 guage still packs quite a punch, but not as much as 12 guage.

id say pump it up to full AR status and give it the 12 gauge...the design could use a bit of rehashing to it since it looks like an ergonomics nightmare

Not everything must be a 12 gage…. a 20 at 12 feet or less can make a very big hole

I like the idea of combing a close-in weapon with a very close-in weapon.

It needs a carry handle or similar, if you look at all Bullpub designed weapons today, they all have either a carry handle, or an elevated sight mount of some sort (just look at the P-90, the sight is in that elevated block on the front), and there's good reason for it: Look at your sights, could you shoulder that and aim? no, your cheek rests on the reciver, so your eye is well above thouse sights, hence the sights must be lifted to eye level, either by placing them on a carry handle, using flip-up sights, or using an elevated sight mount like on the P-90.

Also, how does that SMG mag feed? its at the very rear of the weapon, how can the bolt carrier get behind a round and scoop it up for the next shot?

Just a bit of nit-picking here, im not bashing it or anything, just pointing out a couple of flaws in the design

The way he has it you may hold it higher on your shoulder, who knows…

The clip…. There it is …. Yes I would put it closer to the front, the hardest part in planning new weapons (for me) is finding a good place to put the clip

It's got two D-Rings on it, one underneath the the rail mount in front and one on the butt of the rifle. You just hook up a sling for carrying it.



Yes, in fact you can. Your cheek rests on the head rest on the rear of the rifle. The sights were drawn a little low in this sketch, but it would work.



I can very easily imagine how it could, as there already are rifles with clips placed similarly, and they manage to work.

The new look is odd at best, I can’t say I like the new bayonet, but other then that I have no complaints. Well it dose remind me of Warhammer 40K but I have know idea why.

Really? I love the new bayonet, it kept the general CYLO profile but the CYLO Dipheox actually looks comfortable to hold.

And the blade looks a lot meaner. Not sure where you see WH40K in it, but I take that as a compliment

come to think of it its got an intreguing look, the blockyness makes it look mass produced and rushed for function rather than aesthetics, and the blade looks almost medieval...either way the over all look has vastly improved, and i think it fills in a gap in bw that ive mentioned before. which was having something that looked like there was no time to make it pretty

Yep, thats the beauty of the CYLO (Dipheox included);

Its designed basically as an empty frame with other companies able to manufacture the firing systems for low prices. While this probably wouldn't be an unreliable gun, it is cheap to produce.

Could special fire be to use the bayonet in the other hand, like a sword/knife/thing?

I'm liking the new design. Definetly an improvement.

My only concern now is that it looks a bit back-heavy.

The bayonet might end up being a fixed thing, but its not really very usuable on its own, no place to hold it...

Also, it would be back heavy, it's clips are both in back. Its designed this way on purpose, it stabilizes the gun much better than a front heavy gun.

I'll show you then, i've superimposed a face onto the gun, and placed the cheek about where the cheek-rest is, and drawn a red line from his eye reprisenting his aim:



Things just dont add up, as you can see, and as i said, that is the exact reason why every bullpub weapon ever made has an elevated sight of some sort.


As for the mag, show me just one weapon that has a magazine that clouse to the stock.. the reason you wont find any is that the mag must be placed forward of the bolt, just look at the AUG, SA-80, SAR-21, FaMas, P-90 and others, there is allways more than a magazines width behind the mag to the stock, the whole fiering mechanism is back there, it has to be, thats how guns work

Ok, i see what you mean now. I could just simply lower the back a bit, raise the sights a bit, not too hard to do.

As for the other part, I say this:

This is a Sci-fi game so NYAH!

Also, slap on a scope to that thing and tell me the sights wouldn't work.

It's not really a gun you'd use the sights for much anyways.

Alright, I am currently collaborating with said firearm geek (SSmash ) and we're going to come up with a more believable redesign. The AR clip is probably going to be like nothing you've seen before. Maybe, dependent on what SSmash comes up with.
