100 peak and 60 lowest in UT. I was playing FEAR though and got great performance even at maximum settings (besides shadows)

macs dont need an emulator..... all they need is a copy of win XP and the program "boot camp". o and if i wanted a mac that could beat a certain pc i would buy it(but it would cost a lot more than a pc of the same specs i guess)

You aren't using AA or AF in FEAR then, because there is no way you'd max out with those specs while using them. Max texture resolution + 16xAF uses more than 512 MBs of vRAM if I'm not mistaken.

I had it do that thing where it detects my specs and stuff and it says is using 2xAA and everythings on max..ill go in again and check just to make sure. I always turn the shadows off in every game I play though they just annoy me

But my point still stands; why would someone buy a mac and then install or emulate windows on it? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of purchasing the mac? Or am I so completely out of touch that someone would buy a mac because it looks cooler?

Did you run the benchmarking in FEAR? What were your numbers? Your low resolution should make up for some if not most of the other high end settings you've turned on. What kind of monitor do you play on?

For some reason thats the default when it scans my pc. I turn the shadows off and the lights to high. I was using fraps just a second ago and my fps never went higher than 40 fps and never lower than 30. My monitor is a 17 inch Compaq flat screen.

That is a good idea in your case, but your reasoning is offensive.

By the way, enabling Soft Shadows will disable the effect of AA, so it is a possibility that you are actually running the game with 0xAA.

no i didnt pick up on that im so use to the Windowz owns gaming stuff. umm i didnt buy my mac becauce it looks cooler lol, i bought it becauce i have used windows and macs and macs are much more proficient machines(not when it comes to gaming because a mac of the same spec windows machine cost more). i would buy a copy of Win XP so i could enjoy games like FEAR or HL2 =]

Installing Windows will increase performance and compatibility, but the medium-spec hardware you have will still bottleneck.

Macs are hands down the winner if you're doing 3D animation and graphics stuff, though. The Pixar guys all use Macs...I wanna say Industrial Light and Magic guys use Macs as well (that would make sense seeing as Pixar used to be part of ILM...but don't quote me on that)

Echo, you said you never get below 30s in FEAR? That's impressive, even at that low resolution...my beast will get in the high 20s if I get into a really good firefight. That should be cured when I get my new CPU, MB and RAM tomorrow though

Is 1024 x 768 a low resolution? What do you call 640 x 480 then?

Anyways, we shouldn't be arguing whether PC's are better than macs,
the real battle is between AMD and Pentium (Pentium all the way).

As far as resolutions go, I'm used to playing at 1680x1050 so perhaps I'm a bit spoiled

I got the hardware power to go as high as 1600 x 1200, my monitor just doesn't support higher than 1024 x 768 because it is only 15" LCD.

If you find a 15" that supports 1280 x 960 or even 1600 x 1200, let me know.

also apple failed with out Steve Jobs, and thats why they took him back..... well kind of.

Talking about gates, xerox must really be smashing theres heads off of there platnum trays. They once were the bosses of bill gates and several other well to do computer designers. Then they fired em because they created a blocky pc which was the first pc.

Yeah, I bought my first 7950 GT the second week they came out and I bought the second one in January. I wanted SLI so I didn't want to have to hock my first 7950. But, my FEAR benchmarks went up about 50 % from when I had my AMD X2 4200. I'm pleased with it.
