"Tempest" Heavy Electroplasma Cannon

Description: Based on energy shielding technology, this weapon uses those shields to encase and fire charges of high-energy plasma with strong electrical attributes. Extremely effective against energy shielding, as the fields act like bubbles and "fuse" with each other, pouring the plasma right through the shields. This weapon is very heavy, and slows down the wielder a considerable amount.

Primary Fire: Fires big slow balls of glowing blue plasma that in addition to heavy direct damage, also give off slight splash damage in the form of small bolts of lightning that strike everyone near the impact point. Fire rate is rather slow at just under 120RPM, but the heavy damage more than makes up for it. 50-60 damage with a direct hit. It is possible to be just outside the collision range but still take slight shock damage from the plasma.

Secondary Fire: Hold this trigger to build up a bigger charge, then fire a larger ball of plasma. Higher charges require a stronger containment field which makes them move slower, but they also have much more direct and splash damage, and a larger splash radius. Can charge up to the equivalent power of 10 regular shots, consuming an appropriate amount of ammo. Again, you can be shocked by the passing plasma without taking its full force.

Special Fire: Emits a weak EM wave from the gun, capable of shorting out most energy shielding for a few seconds, making nearby victims quite vulnerable for a moment. Requires recharge time after each use. The EM wave also affects the fields containing the Tempest's electroplasma shots, disrupting the shield bubbles and releasing the plasma.

When the wielder's own shots are EMP'd, they change from blue spheres to white-hot balls of crackling electricity, hanging stationary in midair. In this unrestrained state they will slowly dissipate into thin air, but until then will discharge onto any nearby objects (which speeds up the dissipation, but hey, it's doing damage!). This exerts a slight attractive force on its targets, pulling them and the plasma towards each other for maximum damage. Be warned that in this state the plasma will hurt the wielder.

Because of the attractive force, frozen charges tend to clump together and combine into bigger charges, which can discharge in a greater area, exert a stronger suction, and also last longer. By firing directly into the plasma core, the wielder can add a theoretically limitless amount of energy to an ever-growing ball of death, which at the largest confirmed sizes has been seen capable of lifting Scorpions right off the ground and incinerating them in seconds.

Larger charges dissipate faster than smaller charges, so there is a functional size limit depending on the number of people working on the same charge. Once it shrinks again, its dissipation slows down. The bigger the charge, the less it is moved by nearby objects.

Ammo Type: Uses glass tubes filled with the gas that the weapon turns into the plasma it fires, and batteries to provide the necessary energy. Each pickup provides enough of each for 30 primary shots. 30 shots per reload, and 60 shots in reserve.

Reload: Opens a hatch and spits out several glass tubes and batteries, then slides in a fresh set one by one. Cannot fire until completely reloaded.

Wow. Just wow. The main idea behind this tool of destruction is the idea of regular weapon with an epic-scale but ammo-intensive attack built in, and also because BW needs a heavy energy weapon. The EMP is used to drop enemy shields for a few seconds, and also to turn your flying plasma into a swarm of floating electrical mines. The reload time keeps one person from making the largest sized plasma charges, but when an entire teams wants a lightning ball there...

Sounds like you took a good idea from the WoE transdimentional disturber and added it to quakes BFG. This will make a fine superweapon.

But one thing I see though, is that the stationary plasma balls seem rather powerful... What about making it so they aren't fully stationary, but pull very slowly towards the largest/closest body of mass, that way the same force that pulls objects towards it is also pulling it towards the objects.

This movement would be dampened as more energy is feed to the plasma ball.

Another idea is that the larger the stationary plasma ball, the faster it decays. Adding more to the plasma ball will not simply detract from it's life time, but more like it will add a bit more to its lifetime, but the rate at which it decays would increase.

Another interesting idea is maybe the shielding for the regular projectiles decays over time, so at further ranges the projectile actually causes burns to people who just happen to be near the projectile as it flies through the air. Further ranges would have a greater radius that you'd have to be in where you get burned.

This idea is just a thought that might make it a bit more unique, as opposed to the standard energy ball that retains all its energy from leaving the barrel.

For primary fire, think of Perfect Dark Zero's Plasma Rifle, but with a charge shot. And the mines would obviously need some balancing, so I'll see what I can do.
