yeah i turned 16 today, got a bunch of money and stuff so im happy. i think im gonna buy Call of Duty2 and halo for my mac.....

what have i done recently....?
i was going to finished the MP5 model but got stuck when i tried to UV map it(so i could apply a texture) each time it took 15min to do then i hit ok and sections of the model vanished(umm... wtf?). so 3d modeling kind of wore off on me, it takes a lot of work to learn and to continue doing. *break time*

i guess im going to get a job soon and earn some cash, then maybe check out 3dmax or some other 3d modeling studio programs(im still trying to get into it). also i'll get windows on my mac eventually so i can get serious about modding and all that stuff(almost no up to date mac games come with friggen editors!!!!).

so yeah im 16 and school will be out in 20 days or so where i live.

Man you couldn't have chosen a harder bunch of games; Halo or Call of Duty 2, check the specs on your mac and then on the two games, CoD2 is a heavy system runner when rendering on dx9, luckily you can run it on dx7 (or so it ends up looking like CoD. CoD2 and Halo are both great single and multiplayer games. Halo has a bit more of a contecting single player since your always the Master Chief, while CoD2 you switch between a few different soldiers in different armies who are fighting in different theaters of war.

I hope you can choose, though a perfect option is just get a little more money and buy both games.

I found COD2 ran slightly better on my PC than Halo did. [edit] (or was that SOF2?)

But both are great games.

Halo in particular is a good babysitter. Kids who stop by my parents house always want to play my copy of the game.

I highly doubt Halo is more demanding than CoD 2.

i hear halo runs much better on macs than on a pc about the same specs so i should be fine, and the COD2 demo runs great at high settings on my comp. looking forward to when halo2 comes out to mac.......

today i got $265 which was a mix of b-day money and work i've been doing for my dad, maybe i'll finally get my copy of windows xp if i feel like paying for it.

As for buying 3DS Max and most other high-end modeling programs, you better have a damn good job, those things run in the thousands for price. Unless there are private use versions out there available at a cheaper price, but I haven't seen them.

You might want to check out Blender sometime though. Its an open source, free, multi-platform (available on Mac, Windows, and Linux) modeling program that can actually compare to the professional grade programs. And its free. In fact, in every comparison chart I've seen Blender comes out pretty much on top. It's only downfall is its rather steep learning curve, or so it's said, and rather confusing GUI. I personally had no problems adjusting to it.

You oughta look into it.

It also has a built-in game engine and there are some example packs you can download, with one of them having an FPS template. The game engine has full physics support, though past that I can't say I know what other features it has, but it's supposed to be pretty simple to use (and that's usually at the expense of freedom, though since blender is so easy to modify, you can probably just code in new parameters for the various actors and such).

Modelling is a hard art to learn..

i have blender and tried a few simple tutorials but its just to confusing to get in to....... maybe i'll mess around with it a little more.

I'd say its probably worth learning. I didn't use a tutorial myself, just a quick start guide to know how to move the camera and stuff. The rest was just a series of clicking buttons and seeing what happens.

You tend to no not click enough if the interest isn't in place. If you really want to try Blender, then do as Xav says, click & watch as much as you can.

Happy Birthday James, and maybe you should consider getting Battlefield 2 Deluxe Edition if you don't have it already. I know that the suggestion's a little late... but never mind that.

windows xp home edition is $200 + shipping..... i dont think im gonna get it.

im definitely going to buy "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars" when that comes out(yeah its coming to mac =D, and i'll be able to run it fine). im not sure if i should buy COD2 or Halo....... (i'd buy FEAR if that was ported to mac definitely)

You'd be better off buying Vista, but the problem is that it would be far too heavy for your hardware.

i think one of the main problems is that its loaded to the teeth with bugs...... people are still willing to buy xp over the flaky vista thats why its still $200.

Vista isn't loaded to the teeth with bugs, hardware drivers are. To name an example, Creative haven't released ANY Vista drivers for any of the SoundBlaster cards.

i've heard many things about vista that arent good.... i'd stick with xp till things are more stable(or till the drivers are more compatible like you said).

one of my friends said he'd sell me his copy of xp(which he got a few months ago) for $80. but if hes already installed it on his new lap top how can i legally use it(i mean if he doesnt wipe it off his comp)?

Why would he need to wipe it off his computer first? XP is just on a CD, if you got the install disc and the serial key then you have everything you need.

its software made to be installed onto one computer only right....? so if its installed on two computers using the same disk there could be trouble(?).

I'm curious how that is possible. The contents of a disc can't be changed with any means unless it is rewritable.
So nope, as long as the CD doesn't self-destruct after installing on one computer, there is nothing that keeps you from using it on another computer.

I have no idea if they forbid anyone to install the OS on more than one computer per disc. If you have the CD and a serial number then go ahead by all means.

Ok. But do keep one thing in mind, installing an OS isn't like installing other 3rd party programs. If you have never done it before I suggest reading a tutorial first. It isn't essential but doesn't hurt either.

James are you sure you are not thinking of the "XP exclusive" label that comes on some computers? (it is common on Dells. And it is on the side of my PC too)

That doesnt mean the copy of XP is exclusive to that PC. Rather it means the PC is exclusive to XP. In other words it has a legal right to use the Operating System.

At least that is what I heard. The Dell website may have info on that.
