Alright ill admit that Bioshock has its problems but for the people who do not experience these flaws know what the games like and its amazing. I mean if it was a game that was less well good no one would really care but since this games gotten so many great reviews and stuff its easier to pick upon these flaws because there more noticeable to the public. That might not make sense on here but it did in my mind.

Well, what I have a hard time figuring out is how the reviewers managed to overlook the flaws that are so obvious. Irrational promised shooter 2.0, we get a non-linear shooter 1.0 instead.

Plus all the anti-piracy crap, doesn't affect the game itself in any way, but one will have to get past all that in order to play.

I agree with you on the Anti piracy, its stupid to have that much and will surely come back to haunt them soon enough.

YAY! I fixed both of my problems! I can now play for hours before a crash and can now load saved games whenever I feel like it!

I could forgive those problems for the fact that it's a really, really pretty game.

I managed to run the demo with High Detail Shaders activated (Probably the most significant and visible graphics change there), but with no other options on, at 640 x 480 resolution, and still had a low framerate at times. But even at 640 x 480, those shaders made it one of the prettiest games I've ever played on a computer that belongs to me.

So graphics more than make up for anti-piracy measures that are dangerously close to breaking the constitutional rights of the consumer?

At least they DIDN'T break it.

Is there a written constitution of gaming? Because if so I wanna see it and learn from it. Theres a gaming bible I know that.

They actually did break it, on second thought: False advertising; not mentioning that the product has limited activations.

Believe it or not, the consumer has the right of knowing what s/he is buying. 2K never mentioned anywhere on the box that the game has limited activations. This lack of knowledge has given huge amounts of people massive problems with the activations; running out of activation credits and not getting them back when unInstalling, people think they can install on more than 2 PCs and then get surprised when attempting a 3rd install, and I can go on and on into infinity.

So in other words, if a person would afford taking this to court and a good lawyer, there is a decent chance 2K would lose the case.

That doesn't really affect me because I only game on one pc so im not complaining.

Yea average gamers usually have minimum wage jobs and 2k can hire million dollar lawyers.

The activation stuff affects everyone in the long run, chances are you will upgrade your computer again like everyone else. And if you get a bad system crash, you will possibly lose one activation credit without an easy way to get it back. And if 2K or SecuROM go down under before releasing a patch to disable the copy protection, it will be impossible to legally play your legally bought game.

And don't tell me it doesn't affect you, that is the kind of bullshit that publishers and their anti-piracy schemes thrive on. Plus you are just lying to yourself if you think so.

So basically in the long run all it does is promote piracy. I bet theres a bunch of pirates laughing there ass's off right now while playing BioShock.They were probably playing it before most people who bought it did
Though that's not to say I encourage it.

I think the software pirates wouldn't be so many if you could play your legally bought games without all the hassle. Because I think there are just two groups of software pirates:
1) Ones who pirate because they can't afford games.
2) Ones who pirate because they can't stand the anti-piracy in legally bought games. (believe it or not, playing games that are cracked is much more comfy)

I'm pretty sure it's only false-advertising if you actively say that your product does something that it doesn't do. It doesn't apply the other way around. It's not like food or medicine, where the ingredients have the potential to actually kill you.

And they have increased the activation limit to 5, I believe. They'll probably end up removing them altogether.



I really, highly doubt that the second group is very well represented.

Besides, is there really anything wrong with trying to make sure your product can't be stolen? Banks have huge vaults with complicated locks to put money in. Stores have cameras, security guards, and those scanner things at the doors to stop shop-lifters. People lock their when they go on vacation and put their belongings in safes. Developers are at a disadvantage here as it is much, much easier to download something illegaly than it is to steal something from a store without legal consequences.

How would you suggest they combat piracy then? If it seems the only methods to do so involve inconveniencing the customer in some way, what then? Just let pirates steal their property?

They sure as hell won't decrease piracy by giving the honest customer hell to go through. Bioshock has been cracked already, as a matter of fact, rendering the anti-piracy measures completely useless. But guess what, the honest customer still needs to go through hell.

So my conclusion is; CD keys and CD checks is enough anti-piracy, it did not hurt the sales of Doom 3 and neither did it for HalfLife to name examples.

So if publishers want to fight piracy, all they have to do is not giving the customers a good reason to want to pirate the games.

My bro bought BattleField 2142 recently, and I noted a requirement to go online to register it in order to play. The thing is, those asterisks to that little note were only next to the online game play.

It never said as far as I could tell you had to register to play it at all...

My question is, are all new games going to require this crap? I haven't really gotten a new game for so long a time, I honestly don't know. What I do know, is that I am forced to having only dial-up connection, which means this online registration crap is not going to exactly be feasible for me, meaning further, that I am f***ed for Pc gaming if all new games require this.

I hope not. And that's all we can do, hoping.
To avoid online registrations you can wait for downloadable cracks, that is what I will be doing for such games.

Theres also Pirates that just do it because they can do it, like a hobby.

Aren't we veering off course of the "Bioshock Demo" topic itself? Anyway Its a great game and besides the Anti-Piracy problems the games almost perfect, when I get my 360 this is on the top of my list as well as halo 3, and halo wars.

If anyone can find the demo hosted on an Icelandic server for me, I will be forever thankful to that person.

I just googled a bit,the closest server I could find to Iceland was a United Kingdom Server.Which is only a couple hundred miles South-East of you.

It needs to be icelandic, because when I download from such servers I have infinite quota, while foreign servers have a max of 4 GB per month. Since the demo is almost 50% of that quota, I simply can't afford downloading it unless it is from an icelandic server.
