I just looked at this picture and it got me thinking. DC-Beach has this awesome fortified beach with lots of cover for the attackers and cool bunkers for the defenders, but because it's a DM map a lot of the potential is wasted. When everyone is shooting everyone else there isn't much opportunity for glorious charges up the beach, or storming the bunkers or stuff like that.

At first I thought it could be a CTF map, but that would mean that one team gets the beach, and the other gets the islands, which isn't very fair.

So what about assault? The attacking team spawns on the islands and has to charge up the beach. The final objective could be to destroy that big cannon on the back of the map, perhaps by sticking FP9's to it. The defenders could deploy miniguns or something in the bunkers to really make things difficult, but that could lead to hilarious situations with attackers hurling grenades into the bunkers or clearing them out with flamethrowers.

I think it sounds like a lot of fun. I'd even try changing it myself, but I don't know how to map, and I don't have permission either.

I like that idea, was thinking of it myself.

Why not make it a CTF? Look at Halo 2's maps, like Zanzibar and Burial Grounds, almost exactly the same, a heavily fortified base for one side and just a beach for Zanzibar and a small valley for Burial Grounds.

The map would probably need a bit more distance between the two sides, but it could work quite nicely.

I take it you've never played TAM in that map.

TAM is a team-based gametype where both teams spawn on opposite sides of the map and go out to kill each other. Last team standing wins.

The spawning system seems to work well for every map. You always start out at exact opposite ends in each round, and swap sides after each round. So here red and blue teams alternate "attacking" and "defending" the beach.

Plenty of games over the past have used that beach assault theme in assault gametypes.

Even Ut99 has a similar map to this.

Turning this map into AS should be no trouble at all.

Heh I thought about making a AS version of it for some time now...

I could extend the map, by placing a jungle with an objective behind the gate saying 'Trespassers will be shot'.
The side passage might be a very nice backroute to the enemy fortification. I've got something usefull for that.

You know the part where you can choose to activate a side objective at AS-Convoy? Well, perhaps something like that could fit in at the end of the side passage, where the defenders can jump down to defend it, but you won't climb up.
Once that post has been claimed, defenders won't be able to get down from there and they would be given better equipment or other advantages.

After the cannon has been destroyed, an airstrike blows away the fence allowing the attackers to their final objective. Fighting trough a jungle, they have to reach a bunker near a little pond where they have to steal documents or some other objective...

Just to point out, you can make ANYTHING from DC-Beach!

I guess you could edit the map itself, but I don't even think you'd need to do that. It's already got everything it needs, and yes, it is very small for an assault map but it favors the defenders so heavily that I doubt that'd matter.

Well it could always be reflected upon itself down the middle so that you get two beachs faces eachother(makes no sense but who gives a crap), maybe each 1 looks radically different but similar in the way that they wouldn't destroy gameplay, then just maybe set up a arena, plus the two jails and the locks and blam, even better map.

Do everything minus all that stuff thats associated with Jailbreak and make it CTF!

So you want to see the draw distance crap? That's the only reason I use fog, for the draw distance stuff to NOT be seen... it's just that long.

oh..... ne'ermind.

I'm mapping a AS-DC-Beach, where the attackers start in boats and have to sail to the beach.

So the attackers start with boats, closing in on the beach, when arrived (not too far distance) they get hails of minigun bullets down on them. They can go to the left, because after reaching that point, the attackers will spawn on the isles infront of the beaches, and not that far away. They also spawn in the side-way, where powerfull pickups lie for picking. (sideway is blocked, defenders can jump down) But that's disabled after taking over that post. And then they have to rush the front, I'm trying to improve bits and pieces for cover, not anything noticeable.
Objective is to blow up the cannon with placing heavy bombs (AS-Convoy bomb placements on door style)
Then big boom and you win yay!

I'll try my best to make this a great Assault map.

So far I got the graphics of the Attackers spawn place done, If you look in DM-DC-Beach to the sea, you'll notice 2 isles out in the open. The attackers spawn at the one which is the most far away.

I've build a small base, and it looks cool. But I still got some problems with spawning and other stuff... It's far from finished. But I got something I can work on now (althou I still got 3 maps to finish... maybe more...)

This map is really fun to turn into Assault! I added fish from that other cool isles map.

I only got a problem with the spawning... both player start locations are used by both teams -.-

I followed a damn tutorial and IT STILL DOESNT WORK.
Stupid Defenders spawn everywhere, so do the attackers. Why can't they just spawn at their OWN spots?!
