Hello everyone,

I wondered if some maps like AS-Confexia (or AS-Confexia itself) was made into DM/ONS ?
I really like the Atmosphere of these map, it's really incredible. I searched for a mutator or something capable of making this map into DM or ONS, and I found one that transformed nearly any maps into CTF, so I wondered if it existed for DM ?

Second question is bout an under water map, it would be nice to see one (but then it would need a mutator that add an item to breath under water) CTF-Deep is really nice (there's places with air bubbles to breath) but the cavern in the center should have been replaced by water (sharks attacking players would have been fun too, but a bit complicated maybe, lol )

Does those maps exist or is someone interested in doing one ? I wish I could be a good mapper

An underwater map? I have no clue on how to make such a thing, but I could try in my spare time.

I also found this DM map, it's a very good idea but there's some graphical bugs once you get into the sea (only one place to get in water though the tunnels idea is nice and fun )

Bulska, an idea for a map. Perhaps an Onslaught or VCTF map in space. Huge turrets, boarding actions and crazy mid-air fighting. Ahem, sorry for the topic hijack Anyways, what is Confexia? Sounds interesting.

What is Confexia ? Hmm... for me it's easy, it's the best AS map ever made
Second favorite one is AS-Abyss-Lite (see previous post)

Well, the objectives are only based on destruction of objects (poeple complain a lot about this, so they say it's good map, but not the best one) the atmosphere of the map is simply incredible, it's kind of post-apocalyptic during the night with rain.

If you play this map with BW (I advise playing in Loadout with R9 or Railgun) and 16 players, you'll see how the atmosphere can turn to be a real apocalyptic war with explosions everywhere !
The map itself is already quite huge, but it seems even larger because you wander through the entire map to get all objectives done.

Last word on the map : it was done by Streamline Studios to test what they could do and to see the possibility of UT2004 editor. I advise you to play it at least once even with bots, they're not a big deception there.

An AS map which is basically 1 big place without doors and such? Cool, all AS maps have 'proceed trough the blasted open door' which gets boring after awhile, now that this is more freedom, its interresting.

And Threadhead, a ONS in space would be great fun and I've thought of using spacefighters... but I dont know how to use Spacefighters in anything else then Assault... I do recall a map which had ONS-Spacefighters, Ill try something someday...

I've seen the map ONS-Hollon which is made in VCTF as well, and there's spacefighters in it
Actually, the spacefighters are a bit OVERPOWERED to work with normal vehicles (kill all vehicles in one hit and the speed is really high, but on Hollon it's great 'cause you always try to avoid obstacles through the map) But the map is still great to play.

For AS-Confexia it's also what I think (Bulska), it's really great not to have to blast doors all way long.
The map is a real war field, it would be fun to see it in DM (VDM actually).

Edit : And almost forgot to say that the map is especially great for all the places made for snipers =)
Advise : put at least 15 to 20min (I set time to 25min myself) of time for a match, 'cause it can last a really long time once both team attack and defend well, you can even stay stuck at the same place for 10min for some places in the map.

Would it be difficult to morph the map from AS to DM ?

Possibly, Although really, you'd just need to ditch the scripted events, make the objectives static objects, and then move the spawnpoints about.

Edit: It wouldn't really need the fighters, Bulska. However, a way to get to other ships without vehicles would need to be possible.... Perhaps pods would be launched at the ship, essentially in coding terms a sideways-moving elevator, with mounted weaponry on it, and, a few moments after hitting, it simply falls down into the abyss, and it then pops back into the pod's chamber.

Underwater map:

Why not a large underwater base which is partly underground, with hot magma bowling in caves which are used for energy. It would be a big base, with freedom of moving around in larger tunnels and smaller tunnels. Also a way to get outside in the water and fight there.

AS and DM version.

AS would have objectives, vehicles, a submarine thingie where attackers spawn above and a under-ground/water extra room where defenders spawn. With a objective to destroy shields and shutting off systems. Such as the magma harvesting system, overloading that causes magma to flow trough that room, shutting down the doors and blocking 1 route, changing the shape of the map by pipe bursts, filling tunnels with water.
At the end, few routes remain and it will be tougher getting to the final objective.

DM version would have vehicles too (I know how) but spreaded playerstarts, weapons and vehicles. Submarine up high would have powerup, which makes multiple players swim up and start a underwater fight. I would make an alarm sound which indicates the submarine opening.


SpaceMap:

Why not use raptors and cicada's for it all? And ofcourse jumppads for the scorpions to infiltrate enemy ships. (as seen in that ONS map in a canyon)

Actually I would imagine space stations instead of spaceships with powernodes. This is very well possible.

I was thinking (for the under water map) :
A small room of decompression where you enter, activate a switch, it closes the door, a sucagear spawn, then the room is filled with water and the door to the water area opens.

And the same for entering into the base.

But even if possible, I guess it would be really difficult to implement and would require a lot of scripting Actually it's just an idea, I don't really ask that much

BTW, have you tried the underwater maps I posted ?

When you look at the "sky" of those maps, on some you can see the water on surface (and sun shining through it) and on the other, the mapper choosed to make it deep in the abyss so you don't see the surface and gives the map a darker atmosphere.

Both style looks cool, which one do you prefer ? Which one would you use in your maps ?

Take out the extra i in liink to get a fully functional hyperlink.

I would use sunlight coming from above, with a weak corona flare to add some nice sunny effects.
Maybe an emitter aswell, to fake the water wobling, but that would be rather hard.

I do know that it is possible to raise water and open airlocks in time. But I dont yet know how to make water raise

Ooh, it's nothing for the water raising thing, I guessed it would be hard to do.

What about a CTF map with 2 bases under water and players would have to swim a long way to each base to get and bring back the flag ? The flag would be hard to protect 'cause it would be at the center of the base and there would be many way to get to it from under water ?

As in AS-Abyss-Lite, you have 5 way (or more ?) to get inside the base from under water.

And here for the crazy, yet maybe impossible thing :

A base under water and a base that would be on surface like an oil rig ?
Players would have to swim a long way down to get to one's base.

The model of those enourmous fish you can see sometimes on some maps would be invincible (or would be hard to kill and respawning) and would attack players (yup, I played JAWS not so long ago, lol)

fighting fish... I dont think they're possible unless you can script.

Partly above water would be fun too, I know how to make multiple skyboxes, so maybe I could make an part above and a part below, with a hyper-lift in the middle.

For the Fighting fish I was just joking, lol I knew this was a crazy (impossible) idea.

I was scared while swiming to see those fishes around you in the sea and imagined the worst things they could have done ! LOL

However, I don't know about the Hyper-lift thing, I was more thinking to have to swim by yourself.
Since you're really slow in water, that would oblige players to make strategy to keep the flag

While it may require scripting, perhaps signifigant damge can crack and flood that area of the facility, each door closed off by an airlock, with only a few pockets with no glass and airlocksto prevent flooding.
Unfortunately, that would require LOTS of physics coding, and moving volumes, something UT 2 doesn't support as far as I know.

Threadhead, I think it's possible.

I've seen raising water. Volume and surface.
The triggering is easy, just trigger the doors and the movement of all things. Then add some emitters and trigger those, and you're done.
People get trapped in the tunnels, but they can swim out by the broken glass and find a way back inside.

It's a feature already present in AS-Abyss-Lite in the last part of the mission when you have to flood the facility or in the Sink Map pack, it's a VCTF or ONS, I don't remember and both sinks at the begining of the map are empty, then at a moment, the water flow and after a moment both sinks are full of water.

It was a feature done mainly for the human and skaarj boat in U4E.

But flooding a part of a map is only interesting when you make an AS map.
Actually, I've thought to it and I don't really see how to put those triggers in a DM or CTF map
Or then you have to have a possibility to go back to normal, which would require a lot more work.
